Chapter 634: Chapter 634: (1st Update)
“Adding fuel to the flas?”
Ye Xiangtian laughed softly, his voice growing more desolate as he laughed. He looked at Xu Niannian, his hand twitched faintly.
The chains binding him made a noise too, those heavy chains, like shackles seared right above his heart.
“I indeed have been adding fuel to the flas.”
With just that one sentence, without any explanation, Xu Niannian, looking into his desolate eyes, found herself unable to harden her heart for a mont.
What exactly was the torture he spoke of?
She had a feeling that the unspecific tornt he hinted at might be more severe than what he had described later.
Because when he ntioned how his uncle had tricked him with candy, his whole body trembled.
That was the fear response of a person who had suffered imnse trauma.
And in that mont, Xu Niannian felt the resentnt emanating from him.
Xu Niannian hadn’t forgotten the purpose of her conversation with him here.
After a good while, she hesitantly asked, “You said you’d tell the location of the hidden goods, can you tell now?”
“I don’t want to talk about it now.”
Xu Niannian: “…”
There was sothing on her mind, but she didn’t know if it was appropriate to say it.
“Then when do you want to talk about it?” she asked, struggling to keep her temper in check.
“Listen to the end of my story first,” he said with a smile.
Xu Niannian pursed her lips, “Please continue then.”
Don’t keep stopping in the middle of the story.
“Are you in a hurry?” Ye Xiangtian asked.
“Just go on!” Xu Niannian said, unable to pinpoint the feelings stirring within her as she watched him.
Every pitying person has sothing hateful about them, and conversely, every hateful person has sothing pitiable about them.
Ye Xiangtian watched her for a good while, appreciating the expression on her face that showed she was holding back her anger, the corners of his lips curling into a faint smile.
“Co here.”
Xu Niannian glared at him warily, “What are you planning? I warn you, Jin Yu and the others are outside, don’t think about trying anything funny.”
Ye Xiangtian chuckled, “Don’t you still have the mock gun in your hand? If I tried anything, you could do as Jin Yu said and just shoot with the mock gun. My hands and feet are all tied up, what harm can I do to you?”
Xu Niannian pursed her lips, his point made sense, but who knew if he had any hidden tricks up his sleeve.
She moved two steps forward, stopping about half a ter away from him.
Because of the shorter distance, Ye Xiangtian had to look up to et her eyes.
Xu Niannian noticed this and instinctively crouched down, looking up at him, “Go ahead.”
Sotis, a simple detail in the way people interact with each other can have a different impact on soone.
Seeing Xu Niannian squat down to speak to him, the darkness in Ye Xiangtian’s eyes gradually dissipated.
He sat in the chair, lowering his gaze to et hers.
The woman before him still had bright, dazzling eyes. Her eyes, just like the first ti he t her, were filled with a sense of brightness.
Because of her simple gesture, Ye Xiangtian felt the revival of his heart.
It was quietly beating.
He was now rely a prisoner at the rcy of others and posed no threat to her.
So all her actions weren’t to ingratiate herself with him, they were natural and spontaneous.
She was showing him respect, even though he was just a prisoner, she didn’t treat him with contempt or disgust.
Suddenly, Ye Xiangtian laughed, a cheerful laugh.
Xu Niannian was dazzled by his smile. The man’s hair was disheveled, and his white suit had rust stains from the chains, looking rather unkempt.
But the smile on his face was so radiant it was almost blinding.
Xu Niannian had never seen anyone laugh so beautifully, so simply, so purely, just like an innocent child who has never experienced the world, happy at receiving candy.
Such a smile on the face of an adult might seem out of place.
But Xu Niannian felt that Ye Xiangtian’s smile at that mont was pure, purer even than a child’s laughter.
“You… asked to co over just to show your smile?” Xu Niannian asked, sowhat devilishly.
Ye Xiangtian paused, his eyes lowered, gazing deeply into hers.
“I suddenly believe what you said.”
“What did I say?” Xu Niannian asked.
Ye Xiangtian didn’t reply imdiately, instead turning his head to look out the window, where a ray of sunlight stread in, lighting up a corner of the hospital room.
“Desire for brightness can turn you into the light.”
Those were Xu Niannian’s words. At the ti, she thought he was rely in a tough situation and didn’t realize that the darkness he spoke of referred to his deeds, but it still applied to him.
No matter how grave his mistakes, as long as he had a heart inclined towards goodness, was willing to accept the punishnt he deserved, and strived to live positively, he could beco bright.
If what he said was true, then perhaps his cris did not rit death.
“Yes, a desire for brightness can turn you into the light,” she repeated after him.
Ye Xiangtian turned his head back to her, his gaze fixed on her face, “Thank you.”
He didn’t specify what for.
Xu Niannian didn’t ask either because soon after, he told Xu Niannian the location of the hidden goods.
Having obtained the answer, Xu Niannian certainly wanted to tell Jin Yu right away. She got up from the floor imdiately, planning to rush out to inform him.
But rembering his bright smile and the gloom that preceded it, Xu Niannian paused, turned back, and said to him, “You will beco better.”
