Vigorously shaking her head, the spirit denied having any knowledge on the matter; Indeed, it was hearing of this for the first ti. "Pheebs as you know that I am not always awake, so sotis I miss things. I do not know what these founding families were up to when I was not around. How one of them began to engage in such debauched practices or when they started, I honestly have no idea." A whisper ca from it, heavy with centuries of disappointnt.
It turned to the window, recalling sothing that it had heard once in passing from another guardian of the space, the one that had owned it before her. "There is sothing that I heard about in passing but it was unrelated to the founding families.
Long ago, I think fourteenth century, there used to be a tradition...a law. When a man of status died, he was not buried alone. Two living brides were chosen to accompany him into the earth. The brides were ant to serve this man beyond the veil, whispering his na in the dark, ensuring that his spirit did not wander.
I think there is a book in the space that could be related to it. It's the one with the bride on the cover, she is covered in a crimson veil with golden chains wrapped around her hands.
This tradition was ended because a bride crawled out of the grave and massacred an entire village. Those that survived claid she ca from hell for revenge. In my opinion, she was not human in the first place. Such a tradition is not necessary; it is cruel and vain. I hope that it is not what we are looking at." It finished with a whisper.
From its eyes that had darkened with ancient sorrow, Phoebe could tell that it was grieving because of what the founding families had beco. They were supposed to be the noble protectors of the innocent and yet they had beco corrupted, and so were now doing the opposite of the duties.
Phoebe's mind beca a carousel of whispers, each much more insistent than the last. If the founding families had lost their way, was there a need for them anymore? Perhaps they ought to have an auditor on the founding council that looked into the activities of all the families to see who was derailing before they crushed and ruined hundreds of lives.
Her eyes remained glued to the Montgory mansion as the minivan drove through the wrought iron gate.
Even the gate was creepy, there was a gap in the middle of the iron bars. The tips of the bars around the space were sharp, like those of a monster. She could not tell if old rusty appearance of the gate made it worse.
"Mom, do you have a number of a construction company we can recomnd to them? Why don't they renovate and why is this place creepier than I rember?" Maureen hugged herself, shuddering.
Rekha's eyes remained glued to the window. "This is not how I rember it although I do not rember much so I am pretty much useless." She told them, her brows pulled together. She rembered the place being very welcoming and warm and now it felt darker and colder.
Other cars were slowly moving behind and ahead of them, all people that had co for the funeral.
"It is not what I was expecting." Phoebe comnted.
She was looking at a manor that had once been grand but now lood like a forgotten corpse. Ivy strangled the walls, its tendrils like ghostly fingers seeking to sink the house into the earth.
The once magnificent statues which shimred as they were scrubbed every morning now stood dull and murky.
It almost seed abandoned, as if it had not been loved for a very long ti. It was such a sha because this was a manor that had absorbed the years, it had stories to tell, mories, emotions and echoes of the past.
The Saxon spirit sniffed the air first; she could sll sothing sour--sothing wrong.
Maureen narrowed her eyes. "It is creepy....very creepy. How has nobody freaking noticed creepyville over here and torn it down!! What the hell is the council doing? In fact, what are the creepygory's thinking by allowing this monstrosity of a house to continue standing?" Her voice cut the air, unbothered by Obed's presence.
Not even Rekha blinked at Maureen calling the Montgory's the creepygory's.
Obed saw the horror in their eyes, and it worried him, the last thing he wanted was for them to back out. "My grandmother prefers to keep the mansion looking this way, apparently that is how she connects to her ancestors." He defended the state of the house rapidly; the attention he got made him sigh with unease.
"At least it's very clean and neat on the inside. Forget the house, let us remain focused on the cause that brought us here. Saving from a creepy burial which will tie to two souls. I am not reincarnating with soul ties to crazy bitches that signed off on being buried alive." He reminded them of their mission there, but his words went straight over their house as they studied the Montgory estate more.
"I always wondered what it looked like since they stopped welcoming us Mayfair's here years ago." Andre cracked his knuckles lightly. "I think it was around the ti grandpa died; the entire estate was in chaos back then." He added.
Nodding, Rekha agreed. "That is around the sa ti my father died, sothing happened here, I just know it. Still, I hate being back here, that old matriarch witch is the scam of the earth. She is going to throw out imdiately." She bit out, lips curled as she stepped out of the car.
Grandma Mayfair's arm curled around Rekha's. "No one will dare throw you out when they see that you are with ." She assured her of protection.
"Grandma Morgan will not care, believe she has been tracking your moves for years. You do not know how many whips anyone got for falling behind you at the academy. Why do you think all Montgory's in your age group hate you so much. The list of those that would have preferred it if you died along with your parents is long." Obed's words were more like a warning for Rekha to be on the lookout.
"Pft! Good thing if ca with my kitty knuckles, I will punch a Montgory's teeth out." Maureen spoke, her fingers muscles flexing.
One by one, they stepped out of the car and braved the cold, looking around at the ashen faced guests that had co for the funeral. Phoebe summoned her undead pets who told her where they had found the girls and Obed's body.
"It is not a lie about the won, by the ti we got here they were hamring the last nails in the coffin." Black kitty owed.
A trembling Obed curled into himself, fingers clutching at a chest that no longer held a heartbeat. "My poor soul! We are too late." He whimpered the words out.
"Now I will not be able to reincarnate because that demon will swallow my soul." He wept dramatically like a baby that had forgotten how to be held.
