Upon hearing this, Tian Sangsang suddenly beca furious. That sneaky Jiang Jinghuai, how dare he send their son away right in front of her!

"You guys better co back early, okay?" ng Shuyan blinked his big watery eyes, looking at them reluctantly.

Hearing his innocent voice and looking at his adorable face, Tian Sangsang could no longer bear to act fierce. She forced a slight smile, waved at him, and watched as he got into the car. The vehicle sped off into the distance.

Once her son was gone, Tian Sangsang’s expression imdiately turned cold. Her eyes flickered. "What are you doing here today? And so perfectly on ti!"

Jiang Jinghuai replied, "I’m here to pick up my son. Is that wrong?"

"You’re not wrong. The wrong one is ," Tian Sangsang said dejectedly.

Since he had already taken their son, she didn’t want to stay here anymore. Don’t think arriving early today ans he’s won. He’ll be going back to his unit tomorrow anyway; she’d have plenty of opportunities to take her son back.

As if sensing what she was thinking, Jiang Jinghuai said, "I hope our issues don’t involve Yanyan."

He’s always so quick to play the good guy—what was left for her to say?

"I hope more than anyone that Yanyan doesn’t get involved," Tian Sangsang sneered, then turned and walked away.

Suddenly, Jiang Jinghuai grabbed her hand, his gaze locking intensely onto her face. "Where are you going?"

Yanking her hand but failing to free it, Tian Sangsang said angrily, "Ho."

Jiang Jinghuai tightened his grip. "Ho is this way. Are you going the wrong direction?"

"You misunderstood. I’m going back to my shop. Not your house," she clarified.

Jiang Jinghuai’s expression dimd, and he sighed. "Co ho with ."

Tian Sangsang’s gaze grew colder as she retorted mockingly, "Weren’t you the one who told to leave?"

His eyes reddened. Apologetically, his voice turned hoarse. "I was wrong this morning. What I said wasn’t my true intention. I was just angry. Please forgive , Sangsang. Don’t you still understand my heart? Why do you always treat like I don’t exist?"

His heart? What kind of heart was that? Oh, what a big and noble heart he had—half for the country, half for his mom. Wife and child were clearly re afterthoughts!

"What’s done can’t be undone. Sorry, but I heard it loud and clear. I can’t forget even if I wanted to. Why get yourself a ’secondhand good’ to bring back ho?" Tian Sangsang watched his expression leisurely. "Oh, and your mom said it herself—either it’s her or . I won’t go back there just to endure her abuse."

"She was just speaking out of anger, Sangsang."

"You know full well she doesn’t like , so how could it just be a fit of anger? You knew she didn’t like , yet you still wanted to live with her, to argue for a lifeti?" Tian Sangsang snapped back. "How often are you even ho in a year? Do you know what kind of conflicts happen between us? Honestly, my temper is volatile, and your mom’s a patient. I’m afraid my temper might flare soday and I’d hurt her, in which case I’d be the villain, right?"

Jiang Jinghuai froze. "My mom isn’t the unreasonable type."

Taking advantage of his montary distraction, Tian Sangsang forcefully shook off his hand. "So the unreasonable one is , everything is my fault, I’m just the sinner here."

"Stop being dramatic, Sangsang," Jiang Jinghuai said, frowning slightly.

Tian Sangsang stared at the man before her, finding him unfamiliar. The warmth and gentleness he once had seed to have disappeared. In his heart, there was only his mother. His mother was gentle and virtuous, whereas she was unreasonable and troubleso. What was she to him? A pitiful tool to use when he was happy, and to neglect when he wasn’t?

Baby, your dad is just an utter bastard. Her hand rested on her abdon, and grief poured out from within her.

It was rare to see her so despondent, and Jiang Jinghuai couldn’t help but panic. It felt like he was transported back to their ti in East Sea. Back then, he had made a huge mistake, almost causing harm to their son. She had looked exactly like this.

"Sangsang?"

Not wanting him to see through her vulnerability, Tian Sangsang said indifferently, "Like I said before, the thing I regret most in this life is marrying you. Let’s just get divorced, shall we? Honestly, I’ve thought for a long ti that we’re not a good match. You should find soone like Hua Jun—soone your mom would approve of."

"You want to divorce ? Don’t even think about it. Never!"

"Whatever. Divorce or not, it doesn’t matter. In my heart, it’s just a piece of paper. I’m not the kind of person who’d let so paper tie her down." She paused. "I used to be tied down, to compromise, because of love. But what’s love worth now? It’s not even worth as much as RMB!"

"Sangsang! Don’t go!" He grabbed her hand again, his deep, ink-like eyes filled with pleading. "What do I have to do for you to co back with ? Just tell , I’ll do anything."

She laughed bitterly. "Then... get lost." With that, she yanked her hand free and walked away without looking back.

Jiang Jinghuai stood there, dejected, watching her figure fade into the distance. His heart ached terribly. How had things co to this? Now that his mind was clear again—no longer clouded by the sadness of his mother’s car accident—he replayed the events of recent days. It seed... he had been wrong. In the past, if she had vomited, he would have worried about her stomach. But this ti, he’d scolded her for being difficult instead.

Perhaps it was because she’d vomited once before, at the sa place and in the sa scenario. Or perhaps it was because he rembered how she had once taken advantage of him.

...

Ye Binyi was hospitalized. Jiang’s father and Aunt Zhang were taking care of her. Aunt Zhang typically went ho every day to cook als—one portion for the household and another to bring to the hospital—having devoted herself to looking after Ye Binyi.

When Jiang Jinghuai returned ho, only ng Shuyan was there. The boy sat at the dining table, eating alone in the vast space.

Such a tiny figure compared to the oversized round table looked as small and insignificant as a single grain of sand, even more so.

When the boy saw him co ho, his eyes lit up, but they quickly dimd as he glanced behind him. Not seeing who he was hoping for, the sparkle in his eyes vanished entirely. Setting down his small spoon, he couldn’t bring himself to eat any longer.

"Yanyan," Jiang Jinghuai said, sitting beside him, his heart aching at the boy’s pitiful expression.

The bowl of rice in front of ng Shuyan remained almost untouched.

"What’s wrong? Not eating?"

"I can’t eat," ng Shuyan muttered, lowering his little head.

"You can’t eat? That won’t do, you’ll get hungry." Jiang Jinghuai sighed and picked up the small bowl, scooping so rice with a spoon and bringing it to the boy’s mouth. He gently asked, "How about Daddy feeds you?"

Glancing up at him, ng Shuyan hesitated. Deep down, he saw his father as a stricter figure than his mother. He wouldn’t dare act toward his dad the sa way he could with her. Reluctantly, he took the rice into his mouth, puffing out his cheeks as he chewed, as if expressing his silent protest.

Jiang Jinghuai pretended not to notice, focusing instead on feeding him. A spoonful of rice, then a bite of at, then so vegetables, then so soup—

Bit by bit, he managed to get the little one fed. Only after finishing did Jiang Jinghuai himself feel the pangs of hunger. Usually, his appetite was large due to the physical demands of military training. Food was a necessity for him. But recently, he hadn’t eaten much. His mother’s illness had taken away his appetite. Now that he had fed his son, he was finally ready to eat.

After finishing his al, the little boy climbed down from his chair and with a series of soft steps ran upstairs.
