The inn owner blinked as she looked down at the contract she had just signed.
She did not recall what that contract said, but she knew that her life had been sold away to soone because of her sudden mistake.
'What did I do? Why don't I rember what I just did? What do I do now?'
The innkeeper panicked, but Layla had already stood up and sat down to eat.
"Innkeeper, you should eat your food, or it will get cold. You don't want your food to get cold, right?"
Layla asked in a worried voice, but her voice sounded both anxious and majestic. The tone in her voice lulled the inn owner into a false sense of security, and before she knew it, she was doing as Layla asked her to.
When the innkeeper ca around a second ti, she relied on the fact that her mory was blank of when she tried to trick the noble lady into staying in her inn.
It scared her, but whenever the innkeeper tried to recall what happened, her mind made her forget, and her mory went blank again.
So kind of ntal attack was assaulting her, but she could not tell what had happened to her. She just knew her life would never be the sa after that day.
...
Layla returned to her room once her business with the innkeeper had concluded. She still had the torn contract in her hands, and she almost laughed out loud when she read it.
"Well, it is a simple ad well-drafted piece of shit if you look at it. There is no way anyone would fall for this crap and follow the things that this contract says you should do. Besides, the layer of magic keeping it together is not as tight as it usually is for magic contracts."
The more Layla looked at this contract, the more fraudulent it seed.
Either that or the magic that this contract bonded her with was low enough quality not to affect her.
Luna rubbed her head against Layla's shoulder to ask for praises for her recent assist. The dragon had woven a spell around the innkeeper and made her sign the second contract Layla had presented the lady with.
Usually, people were much more cautious of her and did not like to sign away their lives. But because of the dragon, that was not the case this ti.
"You did a good job, Luna. We completed this transaction. Now, we shall wait for the night and have a grand feast on our hands. But before that, shall we head out and get ourselves scapegoat who would take the bla for what is about to happen?"
Layla walked out of the door and into the busy town. A dozen or so people were at every corner, offering their help for sothing or another.
Among these people was a handyman ready to sell his life for money, the kind of person Layla sought.
"Excuse , but I want to buy your service for one night for ten gold coins. If you are interested, please step forward."
Layla asked the man, and her words also attracted the others' attention. She was letting the town know that she had money.
The reason behind this was simple—she wanted to eliminate any problems simultaneously and get her na out there.
That way, finding and returning her where she belonged would be easier.
The only reason Layla acted this confident in the first place was because of Luna and their bond. There was no other reason for Layla even to try such a thing.
"Ha! You want to take on? A kid like you have ten gold coins to pay for my service? Show it to first-"
Layla took a few gold coins and showed them to the handyman before her.
"I have more money if you want to strike a deal with . Now, co with , and I will show you what you need to guard tonight. I will be out of town and need soone to guard my stuff for .
But do not touch it because it is cursed with magic. Anyone other than who touches this stuff will end up dead."
A lot of onlookers suddenly looked turned off by what Layla just said.
They had been planning to steal and rob her, but the ntion of a curse caused them all to frown in fear.
But not everyone was turned off by this news. Many people still looked excited and ready to take on this challenge.
Seeing this brought a chuckle out of Layla's mouth.
It seed as if her plan was working, and she would have a lot of people coming for her money and stuff tonight.
"I got it, miss! I will take on your commission and ensure it is all safe and sound while you are away. Do you want to get it all down in a contract?"
The handyman asked, but Layla could see his desire clearly in his eyes. The man did not want a contract that would ruin his life.
So that was what Layla decided to do with the man.
"There is no need for that. I want a guard I can trust without a contract. If you are that kind of man, then follow .
Layla spoke confidently, and the man behind her looked delighted before he started walking behind her.
Others looked at the pair with envy but knew they could do nothing about it…
It was not until night, when they had the ti to go after that treasure guarded by a single man.
"This is the room you need to guard. The inside is cursed, so don't step in there. If you do, then I won't be able to guarantee that you will get to live a long life."
Layla warned the man, but she had already lost his attention long ago. He was busy thinking about the treasure he was about to rob.
