Walking in front of their moving carriage, Sylus followed behind Alfred, the black mask covering his face.

As they reached the gate, one of the guards stepped forward, obstructing their path.

"Stop. What do you have in the carriage?" he asked.

"Just a few belongings of ours for a vacation. Nothing else," Alfred replied.

Sylus didn’t say a word; he allowed Alfred to handle all the talking.

Judging from the chipped gates and the soldiers’ poorly dressed appearance, it was safe to assu they were living in poor conditions.

Even the road that was supposedly ant to lead into the city of Liyue had potholes all over.

The maintenance was that bad.

"Then why is that friend of yours covering his face? He should remove it if he wants to pass. We need to confirm he’s not a criminal."

Sylus took a slight step back.

’Alfred, any ti now...’

Alfred threw the soldier a side glance. "Are you not aware of who I am? My na is Alfred Moxian, forr head of royal affairs. Do you think questioning and my guest is a good idea?"

"The what?" Taking a closer look, fear quickly found its way onto the guard’s face.

"Oh shit, it’s Alfred the Ripper! P-pardon my ignorance, I had no idea it was you," he said, falling to his knees, head bowed.

All the other guards and citizens walking nearby who happened to hear the na "Alfred the Ripper" turned their gazes in that direction.

Many of them were completely stunned.

"No way, that’s the infamous Mystero for the king?"

"What is he doing in a place like this?"

"Wait, I heard he was no longer a Mystero."

The murmurs kept piling up.

Of course, Alfred paid no mind to it.

It also seed that so of the won were falling in love just by staring at him.

If it weren’t for the fact that he was undercover, Sylus would have laughed his ass off.

Soon after, the guard stepped aside, allowing Sylus and Alfred to enter the city, along with the carriage.

Once they were in, they stopped in front of a tavern, where Sylus got down and Alfred remained inside the carriage.

"Okay, you head into the inner city; I’ll catch up with you once I’m done here," said Sylus beneath his mask.

Alfred couldn’t help but wear an uneasy look. "Are you certain, Your Highness? You are without a bodyguard. I’ve heard this part of the city is particularly dangerous."

Sylus tucked his arm. "Relax, I have a summons with , rember? Though Aria is with Zani, you get what I an."

After sighing, Alfred reacted, "Yes, I do. Please be careful. I’ll be sure to handle things on my end."

And with that, the carriage zood off.

As soon as it was gone, all the locals who had been standing around began to go their separate ways.

This allowed Sylus to make a couple of quick assessnts.

Before Alfred identified himself, Sylus had already scanned the faces of the onlookers.

Not a single one of them looked healthy or happy. They were poorly dressed and seed restless just from roaming the street.

It wasn’t until they saw soone in power that they lightened up their mood a little—and even then, they were too scared to approach.

This entire place reminded him so much of his forr world—his main city, to be exact.

’I still need to gather more information to be sure. I doubt only the Count is enough to put so much fear in people.’

Turning around, Sylus saw the signboard right in front of the tavern.

House of the god Maomoa.

A god, huh...

He didn’t think much of it and wandered straight into the establishnt.

As soon as he entered, the first thing he saw was two n fighting at the side of the shop, and a waitress was caught between them, pleading for them to stop.

Looking further, it seed like the place was divided into two.

One side of the tavern was poorly maintained—or rather, the people on that side were dirty and malodorous. Although that might be an exaggeration.

On the other side, the tavern was clean and well-kept, also luxurious, with drinks and food.

Not hard to tell how things run around here.

With slow, steady steps, Sylus moved toward the counter—the only part of the bar that wasn’t divided.

He then took a seat.

"One beer, please."

A man with red hair and a red eyepatch was standing on the other side of the counter, cleaning a cup with a napkin.

No doubt he was the one in charge around here.

"What type of beer?" asked the man.

’Eh? Are there types of beer?’

He quickly improvised. "The expensive kind."

A smile ford on the man’s face; his entire attitude did a complete 180.

"Oh, please wait, I’ll get you the beer right away."

As the man turned around, Sylus followed his movents.

Right behind him were two huge transparent bottles with faucets at the bottom, each filled with beer.

One was clean and clear, obviously looking good to drink. The other, not so much. It looked as though there was more water than beer.

’People drink that?’

Luckily for Sylus, the man placed the cup under the faucet for the high-quality beer and filled the cup with it.

Monts later, he placed the cup of beer on the counter in front of Sylus, his hand stretched forward with a smile on his face.

"That will be one gold piece."

Sylus reached into his pocket and pulled out two gold coins, placing them into the man’s hand.

"A tip? No way! It’s very rare to get one around here! And here I was thinking you’d be one of those low-level buyers looking for bronze-priced drinks."

’He must be talking about the other bottle of oversaturated drinks.’ Sylus raised the cup a bit. "I guess so."

Then the man leaned closer. "So tell , which faction are you from? You must be high-ranking if you’re here by yourself."

Sylus raised his head mischivously.

"Oh? A gang?"
