Luo Zhiyong saw how assertive Fang Pingying was with her words and that the reason behind them was sound, leaving him no room for rebuttal. He simply said, "Alright, just try not to argue with mom when you talk to her tomorrow."
"Rest assured, I won't argue," Fang Pingying winked at Luo Zhiyong, having already thought of a plan.
The next morning, Fang Pingying got up early to make breakfast in the kitchen.
Luo Honglan had gotten up even earlier than Fang Pingying; she was already sitting in front of the stove boiling water.
Seeing Fang Pingying coming in, she was sowhat surprised, "Sister-in-law, why are you up so early? It's still a while before breakfast ti, and I haven't started yet."
"I got up early to help you make breakfast," Fang Pingying smiled at her and glanced inside the cabinet where the vegetables were kept, saying, "Let's see what we can have for breakfast today."
Luo Honglan frowned slightly and hesitated, "Second sister-in-law said last night she felt like drinking porridge, and mom ntioned making stead buns."
Fang Pingying pointed at the leftover dishes, "What should we do with these then? Just let them go to waste?"
Luo Honglan said, "Mom suggested keeping the leftover food for lunch, wanting sothing fresh for breakfast. She also told to go to the butcher's in the village later to buy so at for lean at porridge."
"Forget about that, it's too much trouble. Didn't we have leftover rice and vegetables from last night? We'll just stir-fry them all together. This morning, our whole family will eat fried rice." After that, Fang Pingying asked Luo Honglan, "Did mom give you money to buy the at?"
Luo Honglan shook her head, "No, she said to put it on a tab for now and pay it back when big brother's salary arrives. It's always been like that."
Fang Pingying chuckled to herself, no wonder Luo Yuni was holding on to so much money.
She rembered that ever since Luo Zhiyong joined the military, he would send back all his money except for his essential expenses every month.
Plus, Luo Dashan and the others were also able to earn so money from farming each year. Logically, the Luo Family shouldn't be short of funds.
Yet Luo Yuni was so tight with money, to the point she was reluctant to even spend it on Luo Zhiyong's leg treatnt, preferring to keep it all to herself instead.
Considering how particular she was about even breakfast, it's no wonder they were short of cash.
Fang Pingying was not going to indulge her that much though. Why should her man work himself to death outside, scrimping and saving to send money back for them to live lavishly at ho?
She took out two dishes of sour cabbage stir-fried with pork belly left over from last night, fluffed up the small pot of rice that was also left, and said to Honglan, "With so much food and rice, we won't finish it by lunch, and it's getting hotter now; by evening it's sure to spoil. Let's just eat it this morning, and you don't have to go through the trouble of making porridge."
"I'm afraid..." Luo Honglan dared not agree, fearing that Luo Yuni would throw a tantrum for not following her al plan when she woke up.
"Don't be afraid, if mom starts talking about it later, I'll back you up," Fang Pingying patted her shoulder, signaling no need to worry.
Luo Honglan actually also thought that it was just breakfast, there was no need for it to be so fancy, sothing simple to fill the stomach was enough, and it would also save her a lot of hassle.
So, hearing what Fang Pingying said, she imdiately agreed, "Okay, I'll start boiling water then, once it's hot enough for the family to wash their faces, we'll make the fried rice."
Fang Pingying nodded, scooped water to wash the wok, and asked Luo Honglan, "Do you like fried rice?"
"I like it. If you add so soy sauce to fried rice, it can taste even better than at." Luo Honglan said, smacking her lips after expressing the thought.
In Fang Pingying's eyes, Luo Honglan was just a half-grown child, and since she was the first person in the Luo Family who showed her kindness, Fang Pingying couldn't help but dote on her a little.
She patted Luo Honglan's head and said with a smile, "Then I will save your portion of the rice for last and add so soy sauce just for you."
"Great, thank you, sister-in-law," Luo Honglan grinned, her teeth shining through her wide smile. It had been a long ti since she last ate rice fried with soy sauce.
While they were talking, Luo Yuni ca in from outside.
Her complexion looked much better than last night, and with a faint smile on her face, she asked the two, "What are you two so happily chatting about early in the morning?"
Saying this, she proceeded to check the pot where Luo Honglan was boiling water, and upon seeing only hot water without any porridge, she asked aloud, "Honglan, where's the porridge?"
Luo Honglan was unsure how to respond and hurriedly looked towards Fang Pingying for help.
Fang Pingying gave her a reassuring smile and then said to Luo Yuni, "Mom, I saw that we have so much leftover food that we couldn't finish at lunch, and if we keep it until the evening, it will surely spoil. So, I decided to make fried rice this morning instead and told Honglan not to make any porridge."
Sure enough, upon hearing this, Luo Yuni's brows furrowed slightly, "Fried rice for breakfast?"
"Isn't it good? This al can save us quite a bit of money. If we made porridge and stead buns, the leftovers would spoil, and that would be a waste." After saying this, Fang Pingying, rembering Luo Yuni's fondness for flattery, added, "I was thinking, you always live so frugally and would never want to waste these things."
Although Luo Yuni wasn't fond of Fang Pingying because of last night's incident, she did love to hear praise. Furthermore, she had a quality of not holding grudges easily and liked sweet talkers.
Even if she had just had a fight with soone, as long as they turned around and made up to her or flattered her in front of her, she would imdiately beam with joy.
So, hearing Fang Pingying complint her thriftiness, Luo Yuni beca pleased and dropped the issue of the breakfast. She even agreed with Fang Pingying, saying, "Yes, having fried rice for breakfast once in a while isn't bad. Eating stead buns every day can get really tireso."
"Then I'll start making it now," seeing Luo Yuni's good mood, Fang Pingying also spoke nicely, "Mom, you go brush your teeth and wash your face. Breakfast will be ready in a bit."
"Alright, you go ahead and start. I'll go check out the vegetable garden in the backyard," Luo Yuni, satisfied with Fang Pingying's obedience that morning, smiled and walked out the door.
Watching Luo Yuni leave with a happy face, Fang Pingying blinked her eyes, now feeling a mix of anxious excitent, not knowing how long the happiness would last, wondering if Luo Yuni would explode in rage when asked for money later.
The vegetable garden was not far behind the house, and Luo Yuni walked there to pick a few peppers and eggplants before coming back.
She entered the courtyard to find Luo Zhiming stepping out of the house. As soon as he saw Luo Yuni, he shouted, "Mom, is the water hot? Get so water for washing my face."
Back when Luo Zhiming wasn't married, Luo Yuni used to do these tasks for him. Hearing his shout, she imdiately went inside, "Okay, brush your teeth first, I'll go get your water."
Soon enough, Luo Yuni ca out with a basin of water.
But upon reaching the courtyard and handing over the water to Luo Zhiming, he took the basin and turned to go inside. Then they could hear Fang Xiu's coquettish voice from the house, "Do you even know how to do things? You were supposed to get water, so why is it so hot? You really are a fool."
