Xu He originally didn’t care about the money; she had said those things only to keep it from Duan Fenghua. But at this point, she knew she couldn’t keep secrets anymore. Panicked, she yelled at Duan Fenghua, "What money? What money should I be worrying about? I have plenty of money on hand right now, do you really think I’m short of money?"

"Hehua, then..." Duan Fenghua was startled by Xu He’s shouting and after a mont of stun, stamred out, "Then what is it really about?"

"I..." Xu He almost blurted out the truth, but then she glanced at Duan Fenghua and noticed other patients in the adjacent beds watching them, so she changed the topic and just yelled, "I told you, no matter what, do not take to the hospital. I didn’t want to give birth in the hospital."

"Hehua, you passed out at the ti and didn’t know the situation," Duan Fenghua said softly, worried her agitation would affect her health, and started to explain. "At ho, the doctor assisting your birth said you were having a difficult labor, and without tily hospital treatnt, your life would be in danger. That’s why we brought you here, after a lot of trouble. You even had surgery to save your and the baby’s lives."

Xu He actually knew in her heart that she shouldn’t scold Duan Fenghua, but she was so anxious about what was to co that she could only vent her frustration on Duan Fenghua, "If it couldn’t be saved, then it couldn’t be saved. It’s no different from being dead now."

Upon hearing Xu He’s words, relatives of patients in the adjacent beds began speaking up for justice, "What’s wrong with this girl? Your mother brought you to the hospital for your own good. How could you say that?"

"Exactly, you’re still so young. What could be more important than your life?"

Worried about too many people finding out, Xu He just glared at Duan Fenghua and didn’t continue.

After a mont of silence, Xu He thought of the baby and made the excuse that she needed to use the restroom, asking Duan Fenghua to accompany her. Duan Fenghua initially said she shouldn’t move after the surgery, but Xu He insisted on going out, and Duan Fenghua, knowing she had sothing to say, helped her out.

The two found a less crowded spot in the hospital corridor before Xu He asked again, "Where’s the baby?"

Duan Fenghua pointed in the direction where the doctor had said the baby was staying and spoke softly, "The doctor said that the baby was born from induction, premature, and needs to stay in the hospital for a few days; the doctor has taken him away."

Xu He didn’t respond after hearing this, but after a while, she locked eyes with Duan Fenghua and asked, "What else did the doctor tell you?"

Duan Fenghua didn’t say much more, just murmured, "Nothing much, just your health..."

She cut off halfway, worried that Xu He might not be able to accept her current condition, and stopped without continuing.

Xu He noticed sothing off about Duan Fenghua’s expression and pressed, "What’s wrong with my health?"

"You..." Duan Fenghua looked at her, stamring and still without words.

Sick of the evasion, and with more important things to focus on, Xu He waved her hand dismissively, "Forget it, forget it. If you don’t want to talk, don’t talk. I’m still alive and kicking, so it surely can’t be anything serious."

"Ah." Duan Fenghua sighed softly, thinking it best for her to recover first and discuss things later. She nodded and said, "The doctor said you need to be hospitalized for a few days too. You should rest up well in the hospital, and anwhile, the baby also needs to stay for a few days."

As soon as it was ntioned that the baby needed to stay in the hospital for a few days, Xu He didn’t ask further about the baby’s exact condition. Instead, rembering that there were only a few days left until Shuanzi’s deadline, she urgently said, "The baby can’t stay long. Go ask the doctor. Tell them I want to take the baby away this afternoon."

Duan Fenghua, valuing the baby, imdiately shook her head resolutely, "The doctor said no, the baby must stay in the hospital."

"What stay in the hospital? What’s up with the baby, don’t you know?" Xu He looked around and whispered, "I promised Shuanzi the baby would be for him. I have to take him to Shuanzi in these few days."

Xu He’s last sentence seed to make Duan Fenghua understand the crux of everything Xu He had done. Duan Fenghua frowned and ventured, "Even if you have to give the baby to Shuanzi, if you delay a few days before taking him over, it won’t make any difference."

Upon hearing this, Xu He imdiately shook her head, "No, he must be sent over right away."

At this point, Duan Fenghua felt compelled to question, her expression turning grave as she looked at Xu He and said, "Xu He, have you been hiding sothing from ?"

"What could it be?" Xu He refused to admit anything.

After a mont of silence, Duan Fenghua spoke deliberately, "When you were undergoing surgery just now, I searched for clarity. The doctor said, your baby was not yet due for delivery; an induction needle was used, forcing the birth. This ans you weren’t about to give birth at all this morning. You’ve been deceiving , intending to force the birth of the baby today, right?"

"And the doctor I was sent to call, had already agreed with you beforehand to help you deliver and administer the induction needle. You had planned to be in a hurry to give birth today, isn’t that right?"

Xu He was guessed right on all counts by Duan Fenghua, and she fell silent, her expression showing slight panic, which was evident to anyone seeing through her thoughts.

Seeing Xu He not responding, Duan Fenghua affird her own guess, looked at Xu He with a pained expression, and then called out with disappointnt, "Daughter, why are you doing this in the end? Do you understand that because of your actions, you and your baby almost lost your lives? And now still..."

She stopped, still concealing Xu He’s condition from her.

At this point, Xu He knew she couldn’t hide it anymore and confessed everything to Duan Fenghua, "Mom, I was really out of options. Shuanzi agreed to take this baby and also agreed to marry after the birth, but the condition was that it had to be within a month. The deadline he gave is in three days. I had no choice but to follow through."

This way, all the pieces fell into place, and although Duan Fenghua was initially shocked, she also felt it all made sense to her.

Stunned, she cursed Shuanzi a few tis and then, with a helpless face, called out Xu He’s na, "Hehua, you’re usually so smart. Why are you acting so foolish now? A man who places no value on your and your child’s lives, do you think he will really marry you? Even if he does, do you think you can be happy for the rest of your life? Such a man is utterly unworthy of marriage."

Hearing her mother’s heartbroken words, Xu He also felt wronged and her eyes brimd with tears. However, recalling her intentions, she wiped away her tears and with a resolute look in her eyes, she told Duan Fenghua, "Mom, I understand, so I’ve thought it through. If he won’t marry , then so be it. But I can’t have this baby for him for nothing."
