Chapter 300: Chapter 300 Forget It Chapter 300: Chapter 300 Forget It But all that aside, lately he noticed even his work had been going poorly. He always prided himself on his caution; he never openly offended anyone, at most he’d play so tricks behind the scenes.

He racked his brain but couldn’t figure out the key to these troubles. He closed his eyes, painstakingly reviewing everything and was certain he hadn’t ssed with the wrong person lately, except perhaps for Jiang Shan’s school apology incident.

That’s not right, Jiang Donglin’s eyes snapped open. Ding Xiangdong and Jiang Shan’s incidents had happened within days of each other, and it was Jiang Shan who went first, apologizing at the city’s No. 1 Middle School.

He felt like he was onto sothing, but Jiang Shan had ntioned that the girl was an orphan. How could she possibly have so much influence? No, there must be sothing he didn’t know about.

He got up and hurriedly left.

Ti flew, and Luo Qiao’s days passed in utmost comfort. She had reviewed the high school curriculum before, so even taking the college entrance exams next year wouldn’t be a problem for her.

In recent days, Lu Yichen had been seconded to work at the municipal bureau, likely because of a major case, so Stone had simply been staying over at Luo Qiao’s place. That day, as Luo Qiao was cooking dinner, she heard Stone shout, “Brother, you’re back!”

Luo Qiao had just finished cooking and looked outside to see Lu Yichen had indeed returned, his bicycle laden with many things.

Lu Yichen waved to Luo Qiao, who was poking her head out, “Look what I brought back for you.”

How could that not sound annoying? He acted as if he wasn’t an outsider at all, haha!

Luo Qiao put down the frying spatula in her hand, “What’s with the bucket you brought back?”

Lu Yichen replied, “I was seconded to the municipal bureau these past few days, and soone went to the countryside with food coupons to exchange for so crabs and crayfish, and they gave a share.”

Luo Qiao glanced at the bucket, which indeed contained live crabs and crayfish.

Lu Yichen said, “These crabs and crayfish are locally sourced, and although they’re not big, I’ve tried them once before and they taste pretty good. They’ll make a nice addition to our al.”

He also took a docunt bag off the handlebars, saying, “After dinner, I’m going to visit the police station. The chief asked to bring so things back.”

These past evenings, Luo Qiao had taken to studying food. The mooncakes they had bought last Mid-Autumn Festival didn’t taste good at all, so she wanted to try making her own. With a laugh, Stone said, “Brother, sister wants to make mooncakes herself, she’s even prepared the fillings.”

Luo Qiao smiled, “Too bad we don’t have an oven at ho; I’m afraid we can only steam them in a pot.”

Having heard Luo Qiao’s words, Lu Yichen made no promises but kept them in mind, aware of her interest in cooking and planned to find ti to help her build a simple oven by asking a comrade-in-arms.

Lu Yichen said, “I’ll move these things into the kitchen first.”

Luo Qiao followed him, ready to serve the dinner she had made: braised green beans, potato chicken chunks, stead rice, and a tomato egg soup.

Lu Yichen casually remarked, “Life’s pretty good, eh? Look at my luck, arriving just in ti for chicken.”

Luo Qiao was serving the rice, “Yeah, can’t even enjoy so good food behind your back. Your luck is indeed not bad.”

Then all three of them laughed together.

Luo Qiao set the table, “Stone and I will go back to Qingshan Village after school tomorrow. It’s ti to harvest the potatoes and sweet potatoes from my contracted land there.”

Lu Yichen frowned slightly and said, “Just do what you can tomorrow, and leave the rest. Once I’m done with these few busy days, I’ll co back and help you harvest.”

Luo Qiao held up her bowl with a smile, “Nice try, but would you really go and help harvest without worrying about idle gossip, or what?”

Lu Yichen touched his nose, “I heard from my colleagues that people in their hotowns are busy allocating land. Your household registration is still in Qingshan Village, what are your thoughts?”

Luo Qiao laughed, “Of course, I want to claim my land. Even if I don’t farm it myself, I can lease it to others. A little mosquito is still at, after all.”

Luo Qiao’s coy smile brightened Lu Yichen’s mood instantly. He had been working for several days straight on the case without rest, and all his fatigue seed to be cured by that charming expression.
