Luo Qiao got into the car, smiling as she looked at Lu Yichen, who was driving, and said, "Brother Chen, what brings you here?"
Lu Yichen gave her a sidelong glance. "You already know the answer to that."
Luo Qiao laughed. "I’ve been perfectly obedient. I told you I wouldn’t drink, and I didn’t. Are you satisfied now?"
Lu Yichen’s lips curved into a smile, and he let out a light "Hmm." "Not bad."
Luo Qiao pretended to be dissatisfied. "Looks like soone isn’t particularly happy even when I listen. Guess I won’t bother next ti. After all, drinking a little wouldn’t hurt anyway, right?"
Without a word, Lu Yichen turned on the blinker, pulled the car over to the side of the road, and tugged her directly into his arms. "Tell , what would it take to make *particularly* happy?"
Luo Qiao hadn’t expected him to take her teasing so seriously, let alone pull over right on the road.
She cast a quick, furtive glance at the pedestrian path outside. "Brother Chen, this is a public street—you should mind your image."
Lu Yichen fixed his gaze on her captivating face. "I had planned to reward you back ho, but seeing how eager you look right now..."
With that, he lowered his head and captured her soft, inviting lips. Luo Qiao instinctively gripped his shirt in nervousness, terrified soone might knock on the car window at any mont.
When he finally had enough, Lu Yichen chuckled. "Should I keep going?"
Luo Qiao raised her hand as if to pinch him, but he pulled her into a tight embrace, whispering against her ear, "I’ll properly reward you when we get ho. Don’t rush."
Completely flustered, Luo Qiao felt as if an electric current had passed through her body. Her face turned crimson, and she silently cursed herself for being so hopeless.
Outside, the rain grew heavier and heavier. Lu Yichen adjusted Luo Qiao’s clothing and said, "Buckle up; let’s get moving. It’s getting late, and I’m worried the kids might get anxious at ho."
Luo Qiao avoided looking at him, turning instead to gaze at the rain-streaked car window. "Brother Chen, the rain’s getting heavier. Drive slower."
By the ti the two reached ho, the younger kids had already showered. Yanyan and Yueyue were teaching their three younger brothers how to play Go.
Hearing noises at the front door, Yanyan got up and stood by the entrance. "Dad, Mom."
Luo Qiao responded, "Don’t co out. Wait there while we close the door and co in."
When the two stepped inside, Luo Qiao hugged each child with a smile. "So, you’re playing Go?"
Little Ye quickly chid in, "Our big sisters are teaching the three of us how to play."
Luo Qiao grew interested. "Oh? So, have you learned it yet?"
Little Ye scratched his head shyly. "Not all of it yet."
Yueyue said, "They’re learning pretty fast! We’ll keep teaching them whenever we have ti."
Lu Yichen handed Luo Qiao a pair of shoes. "Put these on first. Wearing wet shoes isn’t comfortable."
Before Luo Qiao could act, Lu Yichen squatted down and helped her remove her shoes.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Luo Qiao said, "We still have to head to the backyard later. Won’t these just get wet again?"
Lu Yichen placed the wet shoes aside. "Doesn’t matter. I’ll carry all of you over later."
The younger kids burst into cheers, their faces lighting up with excitent.
Luo Qiao spent so ti playing with the children and chatting about their school lives. Yanyan and Yueyue ntioned that there was a Go competition next week, and the two of them would represent their school in the event.
Luo Qiao and Lu Yichen offered so words of encouragent and a few practical tips, leaving Yanyan and Yueyue feeling both motivated and well-prepared.
True to his word, Lu Yichen first carried the younger kids to the backyard and then ca back to carry Luo Qiao. The rain was pouring heavily tonight, and he didn’t want any of them to get their shoes wet again.
After settling the kids in, Luo Qiao and Lu Yichen finally returned to their bedroom.
Then, Lu Yichen pulled her into the bathroom, insisting they take a romantic bath together, all under the pretense of saving water and ti.
Who would believe him?
By the ti they ca out, more than an hour had passed. Whether they saved water was uncertain, but they definitely didn’t save any ti.
Luo Qiao was carried back out by him. Once she was settled, Lu Yichen prepared so warm milk, coaxed her into drinking it, and then brought her a glass of water. After taking a few sips, she finally rested in his arms, and the two drifted to sleep.
But around 3 a.m., a knock at the door jolted them awake. Lu Yichen instinctively dressed and got up to answer it.
Outside stood Elder Rong, looking anxious. "Both of your phones are in the front yard. The office urgently needs to reach you," he said, handing the phones over. Lu Yichen took them, passing one to Luo Qiao, who was already out of bed.
Lu Yichen received word that at a nearby construction site, the heavy rain had caused a collapse, trapping rescue workers who had gone in earlier. The situation was dire.
At the sa ti, Luo Qiao got a call from the hospital, summoning her to handle an urgent dical situation.
The two quickly got ready. Since their destinations were in different directions, they had no choice but to part ways. Luo Qiao took the keys to Qi Ling’s car from Elder Rong and shouted to Lu Yichen, "Brother Chen, be careful when you get there."
Lu Yichen replied, "I will. You take care too."
Sothing occurred to Luo Qiao. She pulled out a stash of homade hemostatic and anti-inflammatory dicine, along with a bottle of iodine, gauze, a large pack of self-made jerky, and dried fruit. She placed them in Lu Yichen’s car. "Here’s so dicine and food. Take care of yourself."
With that, she turned and got into a different car. The two vehicles sped off, one after the other, disappearing at the end of the lane.
