Luo Qiao opened the car door and joked, "You guys must be distracted by work, watch not tell on you to the chief."
Soone laughed and responded, "Sister-in-law, we’ve been looking forward to this for a week, who told you to cook so deliciously? We start waiting as soon as the clock hits the hour."
What was said reflected everyone’s thoughts, and laughter ensued.
The trunk and the back seat were filled with food. They hadn’t rested for over a month because of the big case, and it was really too exhausting. Working day and night non-stop, even the strongest body couldn’t take it.
Since she was going to bring food to Lu Yichen anyway, it was just a matter of convenience. Seeing them happy while eating also made her happy, though this was only for the special case team. She and Rong Daniang were able to handle it.
Upstairs, Lu Yichen, seeing his wife’s car stop, said to Qiu Guangming, who was discussing work with him, "This month has been hard on sister-in-law. She cos every Sunday to bring food. The guys in the criminal investigation team just look forward to Sunday all week."
No sooner had he said this than several people gathered around the car: "Look, what did I say?"
Lu Yichen stood up: "Alright, you go too, otherwise later your old arms and legs won’t be able to scramble with those young folks. Also, speed up the investigation. My wife isn’t your criminal investigation team’s cook."
Qiu Guangming cleared his throat and said, "Okay, I’ll go down and encourage everyone to step up the pace, so we can crack this case as soon as possible."
Qiu Guangming went downstairs and encountered Luo Qiao going upstairs: "Sister-in-law, you’ve really worked hard."
Luo Qiao smiled, "It’s nothing, I have to bring food to your chief anyway, and improve everybody’s als a bit so you all have the energy to solve the case."
Qiu Guangming nodded: "Thank you, sister-in-law."
Luo Qiao glanced downstairs: "Hurry down, or there might not be any dishes left soon. Oh, and in one of the baskets, I’ve prepared tea for everyone, with both sweet and savory flavors. Everyone can choose according to their taste, just pour hot water into it and it’s ready to drink."
Qiu Guangming was truly touched. Other people might deliver once or twice, but sister-in-law insisted on coming every Sunday, sending food twice a week. Not to ntion the cost, just her persistence alone was admirable: "Sister-in-law, hurry upstairs, the chief is waiting for you."
As he finished speaking, Lu Yichen’s voice ca from above: "Qiaoqiao, co up, I’ve made ginger tea for you."
Qiu Guangming couldn’t help but shake his head with a smile, gave a thumbs-up to the person upstairs, and ran down the stairs, laughing.
As Luo Qiao walked upstairs, she looked up at Lu Yichen from below: "Brother Chen, are you hungry?"
Lu Yichen took the bag from her hand: "To work on your day off and do all this, I know you care about , but I don’t want you to be tired either."
Hearing his nagging, Luo Qiao followed him into the office, cooing, "Alright, no more nagging. I know you worry about getting tired, but you guys have been busy with cases day and night lately. If you don’t eat well, you’ll wear yourselves out."
Lu Yichen hugged her: "Next ti, just bring food for . If they want to eat, let their wives bring it."
Luo Qiao suddenly burst into laughter: "Brother Chen, are you jealous?"
Before Luo Qiao could say anything more, Lu Yichen put the things on the side table, closed the door, and kissed her behind it.
Luo Qiao was at first stunned by the kiss, then hearing footsteps in the hallway scared her so much that she started pounding on Lu Yichen, signaling him to let go.
But the guy seed addicted to kissing and only reluctantly finished with a lingering sentint, "Qiao Bao, you’re so sweet."
He hadn’t been ho for over a month. For the sake of the case, everybody was eating and living at the station. It had been such a long ti since he had been able to hold his wife. Unable to eat at, he indulged himself in a little craving.
Luo Qiao was irritated and punched him: "You’re not afraid of being seen, really."
Lu Yichen kissed her cheek again: "It’s been so long since I’ve held my wife. Isn’t it okay to indulge craving? Who would be so blind to co by at this ti?"
Luo Qiao smiled brightly: "Enough, stop teasing."
But before she left his embrace, she kissed him on the face and whispered, "I miss you too."
After saying that, she pushed him away and quickly walked to the desk to grab the bag, taking things out: "Stop dawdling, co and eat before it gets cold."
Lu Yichen was still savoring her words, ’I miss you too’, with a smile on his lips as he watched his wife bustling about.
Hearing his wife calling him: "Coming, wifey."
He opened the thermos, and inside was well-stewed chicken soup; the lunch box contained dumplings, and the other box had the sa dishes as everyone else, with a neat linen cloth wrapped around a few buns.
Luo Qiao cheerfully invited: "Brother Chen, co and see if it tastes good?"
She was worried it might be like last ti when he was called away after just a few bites.
Lu Yichen took the chopsticks: "Eat with ."
Luo Qiao was busy ladling him chicken soup: "I’ve already eaten at ho, you eat up, don’t get called away with matters again and end up not eating."
Lu Yichen obediently began to eat, enjoying the fillings that his wife had seasoned. Even though the canteen food wasn’t bad, the flavor couldn’t compare to what his wife made.
As soon as they finished eating and before they had ti to clean up, soone ran over calling for people. There was a major discovery in the case, and they now needed to go to the scene.
Lu Yichen only had ti to say: "Drive safe on your way ho."
He had already reached the hallway; Luo Qiao saw the thick police uniform still hanging there. She grabbed it and chased after him, managing to hand over the clothing just before the car roared away.
Downstairs in the criminal investigation team, the scene was similar. Everyone was rushing off with their unfinished teas in hand. Suddenly, the phrase from future generations ca to mind: ’Peaceful tis are but an illusion; it’s always soone else bearing the burdens as they move forward for you.’
