Chapter 716: Chapter 715: The Hatred is Hard to Dispel!

Lu Zheng told Fang Youzhen to stay in the car while he looked around to ensure no one was there, then quickly jumped into the courtyard.

The modest square courtyard, not large, had snow cleared up against the wooden fence abutting the neighbor’s property.

Lu Zheng strode toward the house and discovered upon arrival that the door wasn’t locked; the lock was simply hung on the latch.

This saved him the trouble; Lu Zheng took down the lock, opened the door and entered the house, finding it not as cold inside as if it had been uninhabited for a long ti.

In the kitchen, there were so firewood next to the stove and hearth, but the water tank had very little water in it.

When he entered the bedroom, he saw nothing but simple red brick flooring and a set of luggage on the kang bed.

After searching around and not finding any useful clues, he went back the way he ca and jumped out.

Lu Zheng then learned from the neighboring residents that a man did move in recently.

However, the place was not his would-be ho but a rental property, and the landlord lived not far from here.

When Lu Zheng and company went to the landlord’s place, no one was ho.

According to the neighbor, the landlord’s family had left ho early in the morning to celebrate the new year in their hotown and would probably return around the third day of the festivities.

Lu Zheng understood that no matter how urgent he was, he couldn’t possibly go looking for this landlord in their ancestral ho during the new year’s holiday, especially not for just a lead;

Moreover, the neighbor did not know the specific address of the landlord’s hotown.

Therefore, he could only enjoy the Lunar New Year well and patiently wait for the family’s return, perhaps then he would get so useful clues…

Lin Xia woke up from her nap and ca to the living room, surprised to find that her father-in-law, Lu Pengcheng, had already returned.

She hurriedly greeted him, “Dad! You’re back!”

From the kitchen ca the hissing and sizzling sounds of cooking; Shao irou must have been preparing dinner.

“Mm!” Lu Pengcheng, seeing Lin Xia and feeling slightly awkward because of what his mother had done, replied, “Lin Xia! Just woke up?”

Lin Xia smiled embarrassingly, “Yes! I’ve been feeling quite sleepy lately!”

She found out that pregnancy truly was a miraculous thing, capable of changing a lot.

She wasn’t used to needing a lot of sleep, but now the opposite was true—she always felt like she couldn’t get enough rest.

“It’s okay! Sleep if you’re tired!” Lu Pengcheng intended to apologize to Lin Xia, but as he moved his lips to speak, he was interrupted by Shao irou, who ca out of the kitchen holding a spatula.

Shao irou wasn’t aware of Lu Pengcheng’s thoughts; she only noticed that Lin Xia had woken up and co to the living room and promptly stepped forward to show her concern for her daughter-in-law.

“Mom said you don’t have to feel embarrassed! You’re not alone now! You’re carrying two babies! Sleep if you want to; sleeping is also good for the babies’ growth!

Why didn’t you sleep a little longer? I was thinking of waking you when dinner was ready!”

Lin Xia smiled and waved her hand, “I’ve had enough sleep! I’ve been asleep for quite a while! Mom, is there anything you haven’t finished cooking? Let help you!”

She didn’t want to just sit back and enjoy ready-made als because she was pregnant.

Now that her morning sickness had subsided a bit, she could actually enter the kitchen.

“No need for you! Sit and chat with your dad! Dinner will be ready shortly!”

“Okay!” Lin Xia had no choice but to comply and sit down.

After thinking for a mont, Lu Pengcheng felt he still needed to express his apology.

“Lin Xia! Even though I just got back, your mom has told everything! I need to apologize on behalf of Lu Zheng’s grandmother to you—I’m sorry for making you suffer, and for nearly harming the children!”

“Dad! I don’t need you to say sorry! The person who did wrong isn’t you!”

Lin Xia was still seething with anger and hatred towards Fang Youlan, so even if Lu Pengcheng apologized on Fang Youlan’s behalf, Lin Xia couldn’t bring herself to say any forgiving words that weren’t heartfelt.

Because what Fang Youlan did this ti was unforgivable, whether she was used by soone else or not!

She was the potential killer who nearly hard the two children in her womb!

Lin Xia understood very clearly that if she hadn’t known to resist, the chicken soup spiked with extra ingredients would have made it into her stomach and she might have completely lost her two treasures afterward.

Actually, before all this happened, Lin Xia’s feelings towards Fang Youlan were very conflicted, considering that there were indeed things she had done wrong in the past.

However, after the incident with the abortion pill, she no longer felt any remorse towards Fang Youlan.

Lu Pengcheng didn’t bla Lin Xia, he understood her feelings very well.

If anyone else were in her shoes, they would find it hard to let go of such resentnt.

Lin Xia would find out sooner or later anyway; it might as well co from him. It could also lessen so of the hatred Lin Xia held towards her mother.

“Lin Xia! After I ca back, I visited Grandpa Lu Zheng.

Upon hearing about the pill yesterday, Grandpa beat up Grandma! Auntie tried to stop him and also got hit a few tis…”

Lin Xia’s eyes widened in shock. She had never imagined that Lu Guangqi could lay a hand on Fang Youlan.

It was like a wild, unbelievable tale!

Lin Xia had seen how much Lu Guangqi pampered and doted on Fang Youlan, even with her limited visits to their house; the small details made it obvious.

Lin Xia couldn’t deny that when she heard Lu Guangqi had hit Fang Youlan, she felt a sense of relief in her heart.

Still, with her father-in-law ntioning this in front of her, she couldn’t help but respond, “Then, they are okay, right?”

“Nothing serious! But the slap mark on Grandma Lu Zheng’s face might take a few days to fade. Grandpa Lu Zheng fell ill last night…”

Just as Lin Xia was about to express more concern, a series of knocks on the door interrupted them.

Lin Xia hurriedly got up to open the door.

When she opened the door, to her surprise, it was Lu Zheng returning.

She smiled joyfully, “Co in! Is it cold outside?”

Upon seeing his wife opening the door, Lu Zheng felt a warm sensation in his heart. He casually rubbed her reddened cheeks, “Your little face is all red. Did you just wake up not long ago?”

“Mhm!” Lin Xia stuck her tongue out at him, feeling embarrassed to admit that she was sowhat flushed with excitent upon hearing that Fang Youlan had been hit.

Unexpectedly, such a simple action of Lin Xia sticking out her tongue caused Lu Zheng’s gaze to shift, lingering aningfully over her lips.

Lu Zheng walked in to see Lu Pengcheng had arrived at ho, “Dad! You’re back!”

“Yes! How’s the investigation going?” Lu Pengcheng got straight to the point.

Upon hearing this, Lu Zheng knew that his father was already aware of everything.

After changing his shoes and settling down on the other couch, he discussed the progress of the investigation, concluding with, “…I hope we can get so useful information from the landlord!”

“Hmm! Let’s go together after the 23rd,” Lu Pengcheng suggested.

Lu Pengcheng continued to voice his doubts, “How co the other party knows so much about Grandma’s situation? Could it be that soone in the family…”

Lu Zheng nodded, “It’s likely that soone deliberately or inadvertently leaked so information. However, at the mont, it’s impossible to tell who it is…”

Lu Zheng didn’t want to suspect anyone without evidence…
