Chapter 544: Chapter 501 Lin Zhengxing Escapes (First update, seeking monthly ticket)_1
Hongyun Building
This once most prosperous, high-end place in Wanghai City was sowhat dilapidated at this mont.
At the ti when night lights just lit up, Hongyun Building, which should have been bustling, was eerily quiet. The once bustling first, second, third, and fourth floors, were now abandoned, without a trace of people.
At the top floor of Hongyun Building, under the dim table light, Lin Zhengxing seed to have aged overnight, devoid of his forr vitality.
Today’s news on “Daily at Seven” gave Lin Zhengxing an ominous feeling. He could no longer reach Director Wang by phone either. If he guessed correctly, Director Wang was probably in trouble too.
“Jiu, who would have thought that such a big corporation like the Yahai would crumble overnight? I regret not listening to your advice,” Lin Zhengxing sighed, speaking in a murmur.
Chang Jiu, sitting on the couch at his side, said softly, “Big Brother Xing, don’t say that. The huge profits from smuggling are irresistible to anyone. I wasn’t very determined either. When we chose this path, there was no turning back. Big Brother Xing, it’s ti for you to leave. The ga is up, we don’t stand a chance anymore.”
Lin Zhengxing’s eyes were dull at this mont, appearing sowhat hollow. He murmured, “Jiu, do you know? I started out in my teens to make my way in the world, riding a bicycle, trekking miles every night, working in processing and sales… I’ve co so far, I can’t just give up.”
Chang Jiu was also sowhat emotional at this mont, speaking softly, “Big Brother Xing, it’s a ss because we failed to cut off those who needed to be cut off promptly. I have already booked your plane ticket. It’s a flight to Donggang tomorrow morning. The tourist visa you will use and your new ID card is all prepared. The ID card was processed when Zhou Qingguo was still in office, it’s a real ID card nad Lai Fugui. After you arrive in Donggang, take a detour to Australia. I’ll stall for you here, and the special investigation team won’t detect any anomalies for the ti being.”
Upon hearing this, Lin Zhengxing abruptly stood up, stared at Chang Jiu, and asked in a deep voice, “Jiu, you’re not going?”
Chang Jiu shook his head and said solemnly, “Our people downstairs have reported that several people have been watching this place over the past few days. It’s clear the special investigation team has caught wind of us. The reason they haven’t taken action yet is likely because they are still sorting out their own internal issues. If everyone leaves, we certainly won’t be able to fool the special investigation team. Big Brother Xing, my wife and children are already abroad; I have no ties left. I can only repay your kindness to with my life.”
Chang Jiu’s words were filled with sorrow. Lin Zhengxing sighed, fell silent, then finally nodded. “Jiu, you’ve suffered a lot. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of your child until they co of age. From this day on, your children are my own.”
…
Early the next morning, while it was still light dawning.
Below the Asia-Oceanic Group headquarters in Hongyun Building, Lin Zhengxing’s vehicle, a rcedes Benz 600 series backlash car, pulled out of the building. Investigators from the special investigation team that was watching the building imdiately followed in their cars.
The special investigation team wasn’t specialized in criminal investigation. Shortly after, two more luxury cars ca out of there, driving in opposite directions.
Half an hour later, a plain-looking Toyota Crown ca out of a building next to the Hongyun Building, drove onto the main road, took a small detour, then suddenly sped up, heading towards Wanghai Airport.
At this mont, Lin Zhengxing was dressed completely different from before. His attire was rather plain, his short hair was half grey half black. With a pair of black-rimd glasses on, he was entirely unrecognizable.
From Asia-Oceanic Group headquarters to Wanghai Airport usually took an hour’s journey. However, it took less than forty minutes to get there this ti. Wanghai Airport stood tall in the distance.
At this mont, Lin Zhengxing stepped out of the car to see fully ard military police outside the airport terminal entrance, with ard police patrolling every ten or so ters. Lin Zhengxing imdiately returned to the car and said in a low voice, “Chang, turn around, head to the dock, find a place to hide.”
Chang, a robust man around thirty years old, was a trusted aide to Lin Zhengxing. This ti, if Lin Zhengxing were to flee, he would definitely take Chang with him.
Recognizing his boss’s intent, Chang didn’t waste any words. He imdiately started the car, drove across the roadway at the terminal entrance, made a turn, and once again exited the airport.
After getting onto the freeway, Chang finally asked, “What’s going on, boss?”
Lin Zhengxing was looking rather gloomy. He said gravely, “Xiao Shanming, from the Public Security Bureau, seems to be leading a team stationed at the airport. It looks like Nie Zhenbang is closing in. The airport is no longer an option, and other sea routes are surely blocked. At this point, all of Wanghai City is most likely sealed off. Our only option now is to head to the dock and find sowhere to hide. You go find Snake Head Ming, and have him arrange for to leave by sea tonight. He can na his price.”
Lin Zhengxing, experienced and seasoned, had detected the unusual atmosphere as soon as he entered the airport terminal. Now, rather than panicking, he remained calm. After extinguishing any sliver of hope he had, his solitary thought was escape. His sharp and thodical response revealed his streetwise expertise.
At this mont, investigators tailing the Asia-Oceanic Group’s vehicles noticed sothing amiss. Lin Zhengxing was nowhere to be found in the rcedes 600 that entered Tianquan Villa, and the occupants of the other two cars were irrelevant small fry.
This unexpected turn of events quickly made its way to Liu Wei, the leader of the task force. His face turned serious – if Lin Zhengxing escaped, it would be a significant setback for the Yuhai case.
After a mont of consideration, Liu Wei instructed, “Call Nie Zhenbang. He’s the top dog in Wanghai City, tell him to imdiately dispatch police forces and block off all transportation hubs in the city – the airport, highways, railways, etc. In addition, contact Comrade Deng Yong and have the Ministry of Public Security issue a Level A arrest warrant for Lin Zhengxing. He must be stopped within our borders.”
Nie Zhenbang was in his office when he received the call from the task force. Wanghai City was in chaos. Yuhai Building, which was slated to beco the tallest skyscraper in the southeast, and possibly the country, was now deserted due to a funding shortfall. Several other projects by the Asia-Oceanic Group had also been temporarily halted. An abundance of affairs were now being handled by the city governnt, with Mayor Wang Yaguang rely acting as a figurehead, leaving the daunting task of overseeing these operations to Nie Zhenbang.
Upon hearing the news, Nie Zhenbang said gravely, “This is bad, Lin Zhengxing is trying to escape. Ju Peng, call Xiao Shanming imdiately. Have him deploy all available officers for a thorough search. Turn Wanghai City upside down if necessary, but find Lin Zhengxing. Also, call the Deputy Commander of the military garrison, and have him send a team to the Asia-Oceanic Group to arrest any involved persons.”
Orders were issued, and once again, action was taken across Wanghai City. On the streets, at each intersection, in every community, police officers were mobilized. With guidance from local community committee mbers, they began to openly investigate and quietly probe for Lin Zhengxing’s whereabouts.
It was already 7 p.m. at city hall, but the place was brightly lit. Inside the small conference room, Nie Zhenbang sat at the head of the table, with the Public Security Bureau’s Xiao Shanming seated next to him, and Nie Jiamin to his right. They were followed by elite forces from the Public Security Bureau and the military region.
“A day, a full day has passed, and even after turning Wanghai City upside down, we still haven’t found Lin Zhengxing. Can he fly or dig into the ground? The more ti drags on, the greater the chance that Lin Zhengxing has already escaped. What do you think, has Lin Zhengxing gone into hiding or what?” Nie Zhenbang’s tone wasn’t very pleasant at this point. He’d been orchestrating operations for a long ti with the goal of altering the outco, capturing Lin Zhengxing. The disappointnt would be evident to anyone if he managed to get away after all that effort.
Faced with Mayor Nie’s fury, Xiao Shanming was sowhat taken aback. Mayor Nie had always been a gentleman, and this was the first ti he’d seen him lose his temper. But at the mont, all Xiao Shanming could do was bite the bullet and respond, “Mayor, we’ve searched every corner of the city, even the chaotic outskirts where city ets countryside. We’ve arrested quite a few idlers who survive the streets and still found no trace of Lin Zhengxing. However, I am certain that Lin Zhengxing is still in Wanghai. My n have sealed off all exits in Wanghai since last night. There’s no way Lin Zhengxing could have escaped so quickly.”
Next to him, Nie Jiamin also chid in, “Mayor Nie, in my opinion, it’s most likely that Lin Zhengxing is hiding sowhere in Wanghai City, awaiting an opportunity to escape.”
Corners? Escape? These two words began swirling in Nie Zhenbang’s mind. After careful analysis, it was unrealistic to think that Lin Zhengxing could escape via highway or railway as he wouldn’t be able to get very far that way. The only realistic options were by plane or by sea.
With Xiao Shanming personally stationed at the airport, escaping by plane was impossible. That left only one option – the sea route. Lin Zhengxing, who’d made a na for himself smuggling goods, would be well-acquainted with this route. Moreover, Wanghai is located across the sea from Treasure Island. It would only be a matter of hours to reach Treasure Island. The more he thought about it, the more plausible it seed.
Having reached this conclusion, Nie Zhenbang stood up, slamd his fist on the desk, and said with gravity, “The sea route, it must be the sea route. Lin Zhengxing is probably planning to flee illicitly. These snake heads are experts at evading capture. Lin Zhengxing must be awaiting an opportunity to flee illicitly.”
Turning to Nie Jiamin, he commanded, “Deputy Commander Nie, contact Director Fang from the navy imdiately and dispatch patrol boats. Also, Shanming, you go find the Mariti Police special operations team. Everyone, get out to sea. Also, conduct a thorough search of all the docks and fishing boats in Wanghai City. We must find Lin Zhengxing.”
