In the following days, Gu Qingli administered acupuncture to Wuqing every night and added spiritual spring water to her dicinal soup. Consequently, Wuqing’s injuries healed at an astonishing speed.

That evening, Gu Qingli removed the silver needles.

Wuqing slowly opened her eyes. A glimr of light flashed through them as she looked at Gu Qingli, who was packing up.

She’s still so thin, Wuqing thought. And she saved my life again. But the woman in my mory couldn’t possibly know dical skills. Could this be her?

Wuqing closed her eyes. No, my na is Jueqing, and I am an assassin. A month ago, the Secret Sect received a mission to assassinate the very person who saved my life two years ago: Gu Qingli. I was stunned. Wasn’t my benefactor just a farr’s daughter? Why would soone want to kill her? The mission required two people, and I was one of them. My partner and I set out to execute the mission. As we drew closer to the target, my heart pounded with increasing panic.

Two years ago, I was also on a mission. Although I completed it, I was severely injured and fled into the mountains. There, I encountered Gu Qingli, who was searching for sothing and took to a cave. Afterward, she brought food and dicine every day. It took a full month for to recover. When I thought of Gu Qingli’s kindness in saving my life, I knew I couldn’t possibly kill her. Even as an assassin, I couldn’t bring myself to harm my benefactor.

When we were close to our destination, I made the ruthless decision to attack my partner when he wasn’t looking. Unfortunately, he reacted quickly and escaped. After he escaped, I nervously disguised myself and hid in Qinghe County Town, awaiting the Secret Sect’s pursuit. But the Secret Sect didn’t co. Instead, my escaped partner returned. He hadn’t gone back to the Sect; he’d healed his injuries and co to exact revenge on . So, we engaged in fierce combat. In the end, I managed to kill him, but as he died, he kicked off a cliff. When I woke up, I couldn’t rember anything.

Jueqing looked at Gu Qingli, who had finished packing her things. She’s showing her true face now, so why doesn’t she recognize ? My appearance hasn’t changed much in two years, has it?

Jueqing’s eyes flashed. Our situation is very dangerous right now. Should I tell her the truth, or stay and protect her? The Secret Sect has never failed a mission. Even though I killed my partner, and even if I don’t return for a long ti, the organization will just send soone else. A month has passed. The organization should have realized sothing is wrong by now. Why hasn’t anyone co? And I’ve betrayed the organization. They won’t spare a traitor. What am I going to do?

Jueqing’s mind raced with these thoughts, growing increasingly muddled. But no matter how confused I am, I need to figure out what’s going on with this Gu Qingli.

Gu Qingli finished packing and prepared to leave. After seven consecutive days of treatnt, Wuqing should regain her mory in the next day or two, she believed.

"Wuqing, I’m leaving— Huh? You’ve recovered?" Gu Qingli turned and saw Jueqing’s face, a mixture of worry and conflict etched upon it.

"Yes," Jueqing replied, her expression reverting to its usual coldness.

"Then, you...?" Gu Qingli prompted.

Jueqing gestured to a stool, indicating for Gu Qingli to sit.

"You want to tell sothing?" Gu Qingli asked, sitting on the stool at the table.

Jueqing nodded, her gaze fixed on Gu Qingli’s familiar, yet now fearless, face. In the past, she was so timid, always cautious. She’s completely different from the composed and self-assured person before now.

"You don’t rember?" Jueqing asked.

"Rember what?" Gu Qingli countered. From Wuqing’s—no, Jueqing’s—words, it sounds like the Original Host should know her. But I have no such mories.

"I am Jueqing," she stated. My code na, that is. People in the Secret Sect only have code nas, not real nas.

"Jueqing?" Gu Qingli repeated, shaking her head.

Jueqing’s deep eyes darkened several shades. "I am an assassin," she said icily, "and I was ordered to kill you. Have you nothing to say?"

BANG!

As Jueqing’s murderous aura flared, Xiao Yunjing burst in. He thrust the door open with one hand, caught the splintered panel with the other, and pulled Gu Qingli into his arms, his gaze fixed fiercely on Jueqing.

Gu Qingli was still reeling from Jueqing’s words when Xiao Yunjing had suddenly burst through the door.

Xiao Yunjing propped the broken door panel aside. He patted Gu Qingli comfortingly, signaling her not to be afraid, then turned his fierce gaze to Jueqing. "Which organization are you from?"

Jueqing was montarily startled. Shouldn’t his first reaction be to kill ? A mont later, understanding dawned. Does he plan to take on the Secret Sect alone?

Jueqing looked at Xiao Yunjing with a complex expression. This man has no murderous intent, only anger. Looking at Gu Qingli, so calm in his arms... is he afraid of scaring her?

Jueqing replied calmly, "The Secret Sect."

"Who wants to kill ? And... do we know each other well?" Gu Qingli, having finally regained her composure, patted Xiao Yunjing’s arm, signaling she wanted to ask her questions.

Jueqing said, "Soone in the Capital City wants you dead. As for their identity, the organization has its rules. You really don’t rember what happened two years ago?"

"I don’t rember," Gu Qingli reiterated, shaking her head.

Jueqing took a deep breath. There’s no turning back now. She then said, "Two years ago, I was injured during a mission. You found on the mountain, saved , and took care of for a month. This past month, I received the mission to kill you. I had a partner, but I killed him..."

After Jueqing finished speaking, silence enveloped the three of them.

Gu Qingli sighed. Talk about misfortune striking out of the blue. She searched the Original Host’s mories regarding the events of two years ago. There seed to be a gap, a period of about a month missing. I don’t know why, Gu Qingli mused. And soone in the Capital City wants to kill ? Who could it be? The Original Host’s family? How could a lost daughter possibly threaten anyone’s interests?

She glanced at Xiao Yunjing, who was also lost in thought. Thank goodness he ca to propose back then. Otherwise, I might have really returned to the Capital City—straight into the lion’s den.

A wave of indescribable emotions washed over Gu Qingli.

anwhile, Xiao Yunjing delved into his mories from his past life. In my previous life, Li’er returned to the Capital City without any problems; no one hard her. Now that I’ve been reborn and prevented her return, have things changed this much?

Jueqing sat on the bed, quietly observing Gu Qingli, who was also deep in thought. What should I do now? Jueqing pondered. There’s no going back to the Sect. But I want to live, and more than that, I want to escape the Secret Sect for good.

She glanced at Xiao Yunjing. Perhaps this man is my only hope. When he asked about my organization just now, I guessed he intended to destroy the Secret Sect by himself. It’s not that I doubt his abilities; I’ve been wary of him since the mont I first laid eyes on him. This is a man who hides his true strength. He appears to be just a farr, yet his aura is like that of soone who has clawed their way out of a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood. And none of the n in this courtyard are simple.
