Upon seeing Gu Qingli safe and sound, Xiao Yunjing’s mind was completely at ease.

Gu Qingli only hugged him for a while, knowing that this was not the ti for them to be affectionate. The injured people on the ground needed urgent treatnt. "Yunjing, I’m fine. Let go of for now. I need to treat Wuyou and the others first."

"Alright." He reluctantly let her go.

Gu Qingli glanced at the sky and then at the casualties on the ground. She said to Xiao Yunjing, "Yunjing, gather all the injured people in one place. This area is not suitable for treating wounds, and the lighting is poor. I’ll take them into my Space."

Most of these people needed surgery. Surgery and stitches were techniques only she knew. It would be difficult to treat everybody outside; so people might not survive long enough to receive her help.

Moving everyone into the Space would be different. The spiritual spring water could sustain their lives, and she wouldn’t have to worry about them not holding on.

Xiao Yunjing nodded and caressed her cheek before going to make the arrangents.

There were a total of sixty-four people, including Wuqing and her team of three. Each of them was severely injured, which brought tears to Gu Qingli’s eyes.

Since there were no outsiders here, Gu Qingli had no scruples about admitting them all to her Space.

「Inside the Space」

Xiao Yunjing first checked on their three sons before coming over to help Gu Qingli.

While Gu Qingli was treating Wuyou, it wasn’t convenient for Xiao Yunjing to assist directly, so she asked him to help by giving so spiritual spring water to Yun No. 20 and the others to preserve their lives for the ti being.

Xiao Yunjing saw that he could indeed offer little help where Gu Qingli was working, so he went to help give them the spiritual spring water.

Gu Qingli first perford surgery on Wuyou. His most severe wound was in his abdon, a puncture that had gone straight through and severed his intestines.

"Miss, let us help." Wuqing’s three female companions entered, supporting one another. Gu Qingli glanced at them; with their injuries, they were more likely to hinder than help. "All of you, go and rest. I can perform the surgery by myself. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure Wuyou is alright."

"Alright!" The three won nodded and left, supporting one another.

Fearing interruption during the surgery, Gu Qingli hung a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door and imdiately began operating on Wuyou.

Fortunately, Wuyou’s physical condition was good, and he managed to cling to life despite his severe injuries.

Gu Qingli spent a full four hours performing the surgery. Only after the wound was dressed and the IV drip hung did she sit down to take a break and drink so water.

When she opened the door, she saw Xiao Yunjing waiting outside. Seeing her exhausted state, he scooped her up in his arms. "Li’er, you must be tired. I’ve made so food for you. Eat sothing first. None of them will die for now."

Gu Qingli nodded. She was exhausted, thirsty, and famished from standing for four straight hours. She nestled in Xiao Yunjing’s embrace, allowing him to carry her to the kitchen.

Several of her favorite dishes were laid out on the kitchen table. She smiled at Xiao Yunjing before wolfing down the food.

She patted her stomach, feeling a bit too full. When did Xiao Yunjing’s cooking beco so good? She watched him clear the table and asked, "Did you set aside the most severely wounded?"

"Yes, but you should rest before you start treating them, Li’er."

"No!" Gu Qingli shook her head. Ti was of the essence. Even with the spiritual spring water sustaining their lives, so people would die from excessive blood loss if too much ti passed; the spring water wasn’t a cure-all. Especially for those with internal injuries like Wuyou’s, they had no chance of survival if not treated properly—not even an immortal could save them then.

Xiao Yunjing, knowing he couldn’t change her mind, brought her to another room. About ten people lay in this room, all of them the most severely injured, their breathing shallow and faint.

Gu Qingli imdiately began treating them, and this ti, Xiao Yunjing stayed to help.

After she finished with one person, daybreak arrived. The two took a short break before continuing their work.

「One day later」

Xiao Yunjing spoke up, "Li’er, why don’t you treat them inside the Space while I take the others back first?" He couldn’t stay outside any longer; they had already spent a day and two nights here.

Gu Qingli agreed. She moved Xiao Yunjing and his group out of her Space and also moved out a carriage. She then re-entered her Space from within the carriage, allowing Xiao Yunjing to take her toward the Capital City.

Xiao Yunjing rode in that carriage, heading for the Capital City.

anwhile, Gu Qingli continued to treat the injured.

After a day and two nights of rest, Wuqing and her companions had recovered sowhat and could help monitor the patients’ IV drips. This freed up more of Gu Qingli’s ti for treatnt.

The nanny and two others looked after the three little ones. Gu Qingli had previously taught the nanny how to milk the cows, boil the milk, and prepare it to the right consistency. Gu Qingli had always personally handled everything related to her sons’ food, drink, and necessities, disliking to entrust these tasks to others. But now, with no other choice, she had to leave it to the nanny and the others.

Xiao Yunjing soon returned to the Imperial Palace and drove the carriage straight to Fengqi Palace, the Empress’s residence.

He ordered his n to guard the carriage and prevent anyone from approaching it, then returned to his study to deal with official docunts.

As he hadn’t formally ascended the throne, he wasn’t holding court. All docunts were sent to his study, and important matters were also discussed there.

His first order of business was to inquire who had sent those attacking soldiers.

Yun No. 14 was already waiting for him there.

Xiao Yunjing asked, "What did you find?"

Yun No. 14 cupped his fist. "Master, we have found out who it was!"

"Who was it?"

"It was General Liu’s n."

"General Liu?" Xiao Yunjing’s body emitted a murderous aura. Wasn’t that General Liu, the one stationed in Jiangnan? Why would he send people to assassinate Li’er? I can’t understand. In my previous life, I dealt with this man. He was straightforward and not the scheming type.

Yun No. 14 continued, "Master, you probably know that General Liu’s youngest daughter is married to Jiang Zhongcai of the Jiang family. He is Jiang Lile’s maternal grandfather."

"Jiang Lile? Is she involved in this?" Xiao Yunjing had almost forgotten about her.

His eyes darkened as he suddenly rembered her actions in Beijing. He imdiately understood. He hadn’t even ascended the throne yet, and already so people were restless. With his harem in their sights, Li’er had beco a stumbling block for them. Fine. Just fine. I’ll make an example of him. I haven’t sought trouble with anyone since taking the throne, but since General Liu has actively co knocking, he shouldn’t bla for being impolite.

He would make an example of General Liu!

"Send the evidence to the Ministry of Punishnts and let them handle this matter." If the Ministry of Punishnts failed to handle this to his satisfaction, he would dismantle them too.

Yun No. 14 understood his master’s intentions and imdiately took the evidence and the more than four hundred captured soldiers to the Ministry of Punishnts.

The officials of the Ministry of Punishnts knew Yun No. 14 was the Emperor’s personal bodyguard, so they dared not show any neglect. The Minister of Punishnts himself took charge of the case.

The current Minister of Punishnts was Lord Xu, son of Grand Tutor Xu. He was astounded upon seeing the evidence and the more than four hundred soldiers brought by Yun No. 14.

After confirming the facts of the case, he imdiately led his n to General Liu’s residence to arrest him.
