Nann Yu had just lifted his foot when Duke of Jing Ci, without hesitation, seized a dagger from the belt of a subordinate nearby and stabbed it directly into his own chest.

"Uncle Han—" Uncle Jingn was the first to see it and quickly tried to intervene; the dagger missed its mark but still plunged deeply into his armpit.

"Uncle Han—" Second Uncle Jing imdiately rushed over, a crack in his voice that made the air turn frantic as well.

"Princely Heir—"

"Princely Heir—" Tan Zong was the first to hold up the falling Duke of Jing Ci, his voice filled with tragic wrath. Following him, all the guards present knelt down.

Nann Yu turned around in a panic, his feet as if glued firmly to the ground, unable to move forward.

Two Loyal Warriors of Wen Family who had co to deliver the news now looked sowhat sheepish. The situation seed hopeless, might they consider entering the palace to seek other help?

But Master Ling Yi had left the palace the day before and had not been seen since, which was why the Commandery Princess had sent them to find this man. But now what should they do? Was there still ti to enter the palace?

Nann Yu turned around and ran back to the Duke of Jing Ci.

"Master, what is this..." Nann Yu could not help but sense the prejudice his master held against Zheng Nianru. But...

"Princely Heir, my death is not worth grieving over, I only hope that you will co to your senses. Do not, for a woman, jeopardize our greater plans." Duke of Jing Ci struggled to speak, his chest heaving as blood quickly soaked his garnts.

"Master, there are so things you do not know." Nann Yu’s eyes were bloodshot as he tightly grasped Duke of Jing Ci’s hand, "Everyone else, step back."

"Princely Heir, attending to Uncle Han is crucial." Second Uncle Jing’s lips trembled as he urgently spoke. The dagger had been stabbed in and pulled out by Duke of Jing Ci, and when he attempted to stab again, they desperately stopped him. Princely Heir could clearly see that Duke of Jing Ci was rely trying to frighten them, his intentions deadly serious.

"Everybody, step back—" Duke of Jing Ci closed his eyes, grateful that they did not just leave him behind. He felt the situation had not yet reached the point of utter despair and was also relieved that the earlier thrust had been deflected slightly by Jing Qu.

Tan Zong watched as Second Uncle Jing and the others stepped back, then led his n away as well. Second Uncle Jing sighed. To his mind, even if the Princely Heir went to rescue the Commandery Princess, it wouldn’t take too long.

Tan Zong patted Second Uncle Jing on the shoulder. The recent events were known only to him and the Duke of Jing Ci. He well understood why the Duke had tried to stop the Princely Heir from going, but fate seed to mock their plans, as the Commandery Princess was not one to be trifled with.

"Master, I must save Nianru." Nann Yu spoke calmly.

Upon hearing this, Duke of Jing Ci’s expression instantly beca frantic, thinking there might be a turning point in the situation.

"Why? In addition to us, there are the Loyal Warriors of Wen Family with them. You must understand if we provoke that shadowy figure, that creature might cling to us, and then entering Nann silently will beco impossible."

"Master, you don’t know. Nianru has already...is...my person..."

Duke of Jing Ci paused, processing Nann Yu’s words again in his mind; he finally grasped the aning behind them, standing still in astonishnt as a mix of emotions hit him, the implications clear without saying.

A flicker of complexity passed through Duke of Jing Ci’s eyes. While he felt anxious and disappointed, he also had to admire the woman’s grit and loyalty.

"You—" Duke of Jing Ci pointed at Nann Yu, who at this mont could promise nothing, yet the Commandery Princess unexpectedly... "You ah—"

"Master, it’s a man’s responsibility," Nann Yu stated resolutely.

"Go quickly and co back quickly, but rember, you must never forget the heavy responsibility you carry," Duke of Jing Ci said, frantic yet resigned.

Things had escalated to this point, and their actions were indeed tantamount to being ungrateful.

Nann Yu nodded solemnly, got up, and, along with the two Loyal Warriors of the Wen Family, prepared to leave.

"Tan Zong, keep up—" Duke of Jing Ci hurriedly said.

Tan Zong was startled, although he did not know what made Duke of Jing Ci change his mind, the two had already reached an agreent.

Tan Zong followed without hesitation.

...

Fu Dong and Nian Xia had already been separated by the crowd; at this mont, several streets away, not daring to roam aimlessly yet anxious to find Zheng Nianru, crying and sobbing, they coincidentally ran into Nann Yu who was searching for them.

"Fu Dong, Nian Xia, where is the Commandery Princess?" Seeing them like this, Nann Yu knew the situation was not good.

Fu Dong and Nian Xia shook their heads blankly, only crying, with Nian Xia pointing into the alleys of these streets.

"We, we got separated from the Commandery Princess upfront, we also don’t know..."

Nann Yu left the two behind and directly led his n toward the inside.

"Princely Heir, over here—" a Nann Death Soldier upon hearing a faint sound of fighting in the distance, imdiately shouted out loud.

Instantly, dozens of figures swiftly swept towards the direction of the sound.

"Are you sure it’s safe?" Zheng Haoyuan shivered, pressing tightly against the cold, damp wall, the icy chill constantly invading his body.

Zheng Nianru also shivered and nodded, the strange cries of the monster nearby intermittently reaching them.

"Won’t it find us?" Zheng Haoyuan was still not reassured.

"As long as your n are nurous, they should be able to hold off the monster." Zheng Nianru thought earnestly, that explanation made the most sense, as long as these people were not afraid to die, desperately blocking, it could buy them the opportunity, thus greatly increasing their chances of turning the situation around.

"Yeah, listening to the sounds, they’re resisting quite fiercely." Zheng Haoyuan didn’t know if he was comforting himself or Zheng Nianru, seriously listening to the noises outside, the cries of pain constantly resonated, the small gap between the two rooms barely enough for a person to sidestep into, and both Zheng Nianru and Zheng Haoyuan were not very large individuals.

This would effectively prevent the monster from flying in and out grabbing people, as long as those Loyalists vigorously barred the entrance, the monster could not get in.

Xing Yu crouched on the ground, gasping for air, listening to the two’s very childish discussion, felt sowhat unreliable.

This thing was very sinister, as if targeting Zheng Haoyuan specifically, she thought, if the monster grabbed Zheng Haoyuan again, she would just carry the Commandery Princess and flee.

"Cousin, I think we can go out from here—" Zheng Haoyuan pointed to a path between the long walls that hardly qualified as a road.

Zheng Nianru shook her head; although she also found the place very uncomfortable, feeling like she was soaked in cold water, stuffy yet damp, with a chilling air, that feeling was indeed unpleasant, but Zheng Nianru was more afraid of dying.

"It seems there isn’t any water ahead." Zheng Haoyuan struggled to move forward two steps. Zheng Nianru looked doubtfully that way, and indeed there was no water, which tempted her slightly.

The two slowly moved forward walking ahead, seeing this, Xing Yu also slowly sidestepped and followed them.

"Cousin, it’s much more comfortable here." Zheng Haoyuan finally could turn around, no longer needing to suffer pressing his entire body against the wall, quickly shifted to make space for Zheng Nianru.

Zheng Nianru took two steps forward, indeed feeling much more comfortable, but before she could settle, she suddenly felt darkness above her head and before she could sense the impending danger, a piercing, chilling scream descended from overhead.

Zheng Nianru just took one look, and very uselessly scread out loud, besides screaming, she could hardly think of any other thod.
