Mary Scott initially had red eyes from crying, and now, agitated by David Locke, her eyes beca even redder as she glared hatefully at him.

David Locke wasn’t intimidated at all; rather, he found her adorably fierce and patted her cheek with his big hand. "Okay, don’t be angry. You don’t need to worry about my parents. I’ll handle it."

"How will you handle it? By being thrown out by them!" Mary Scott was unreserved in her anger.

David Locke thought of how he’d nearly bumped his nose from being kicked out by his own father, and instinctively touched his nose tip. "You saw that? Little girl, not listening and eavesdropping, huh?"

"Don’t change the subject." Mary Scott felt awkward and her imposing manner decreased significantly.

"Okay, not changing the subject. You saw it today. They can’t decide my affairs, and even less our affairs. Don’t be afraid." David Locke said as he leaned down, intending to kiss the corners of her reddened eyes.

Mary Scott turned her head to avoid his lips, her heart feeling uneasy. She certainly knew that the Lockes couldn’t decide matters between David and herself. David’s assertiveness in front of his parents today was to show her and give her a sense of security. But that’s not what she wanted.

Thinking this, she suddenly realized she might be too greedy. She already had a beloved man, yet she still greedily desired his parents’ approval.

Her gaze dimd, and she murmured lowly, "I know, I’m not scared."

David Locke noticed that although Mary Scott said that, the expression on her face seed even more dejected, reaching out to rub her little head. "It doesn’t look like you know you’re not scared."

"Really, I’m going to shower." Mary Scott responded perfunctorily and found an excuse to avoid David Locke.

But at this mont, David Locke was not reassured to let her go, and he reached out to pull her entirely into his embrace. "Don’t overthink things. They’re just surprised by my sudden marriage. Once they calm down, they’ll see how great you are and accept you and like you."

Mary Scott finally tilted her head to look at David Locke, "Really?"

"Of course, you’re so aweso, and they’re not blind. Plus, just now they were discussing with what kind of welco gifts to give you and how much hush money would be appropriate." David Locke comforted her without any bottom line.

Mary Scott’s eyes brightened, she tilted her head doubtfully at David Locke, seemingly unable to believe his words, "You’re not lying to , are you? Aunt clearly dislikes !"

Maybe due to years of drifting, Mary Scott was very sensitive to people’s emotions.

She knew Mrs. Locke didn’t like her, and seed to have a deep prejudice.

"You woman, earlier you said you trusted , and now in just one mont, you question whether it’s true and ask if I’m lying to you. You should have a bit of faith in your man." David Locke teased Mary Scott jokingly, not forgetting to rub her head.

Mary Scott was sowhat dissatisfied as her hair was rubbed, "Stop ssing with my hair; it’s going to split ends because of you!"

After saying that, she laughed first and rubbed her head affectionately against his chin. "I don’t distrust you, it’s just like you saw today, Aunt and Uncle... well, just don’t quite like ."

Actually, Mary Scott deliberately restrained her words by saying they don’t like her much.

"Why do you need them to like you that much? As long as I like you, it’s enough. As for whether I’m lying to you, you’ll know when they give you their welco gifts." David Locke this ti rubbed his soft hair with his chin instead of his hands.

Mary Scott thought about it and agreed; liking soone is indeed a very subjective matter, and she couldn’t force the other person’s parents to like her.

Though she was disappointed, after thinking it through, Mary Scott stopped dwelling on it and finally rembered about the press conference.

Though the press conference was very successful, she still had many issues to face going forward.

She had already terminated her contract with Starlight Entertainnt, but she knew that Jocelyn Spencer, who suffered such a big loss with her, certainly wouldn’t let things go easily.

Also, she needed to find soone to manage her agent affairs. Previously, when she had no fa and was hidden by Starlight, all her work-related matters were coordinated by her and Mia Anderson. But going forward, it seed she couldn’t continue with just the two of them, as she’d need ti and opportunities to react and counter if faced with such large-scale black again.

As for her turnaround, it was rely a result of slightly better luck this ti. But a person can’t rely on luck for a lifeti; she needed to plan for a long-term future.

"What are you thinking about? I’m sitting in front of you and you still zone out!" David Locke noticed Mary Scott speaking while daydreaming and amusingly waved his hand in front of her.

"Nothing, I haven’t checked online since we got back; what if things turn another way?" Mary Scott expressed her concerns.

David Locke chuckled, "With your reaction speed, if things really turn around, and you think of checking now, is there still ti?"

"I... I’m not distracted, it’s because of you... right." Mary Scott deliberately omitted the Lockes.

"Alright, it’s all my fault, but realizing now is still better than nothing." David Locke said and stopped teasing Mary Scott. "Don’t worry, I asked the PR departnt to keep an eye on things, and Charlotte Leigh and Jason Erson have been targeted by the police and are too busy with themselves to bother with you. Even if they want to, Helena Marion’s team has been accepted by Gertrude, and they won’t pose any threat."

Mary Scott felt relieved upon hearing that and thought about the people David Locke offended because of her. "What about you? The people you’ve angered for , will they take this chance to deal with us?"

"That depends on whether they have the skill," David Locke said disdainfully. Though this ti, he did involve a lot of people to divert attention for Mary Scott, and indeed offended many people. But he’s not stupid; he targeted malicious people, and every ti he exposed information, he held back a little. If they dared to tear into Mary during chaotic tis, he wouldn’t mind playing along with them.

It’s just that the capital behind them wasn’t easy to deal with.

But he naturally wouldn’t tell Mary Scott about this.

Seeing David Locke brimming with confidence, Mary Scott stopped overthinking and grabbed her phone to open Twitter, finding that her followers increased by a million in a day and continued to rise, with comnts, private ssages, and likes all at 999 . She randomly opened a private ssage, which was no longer filled with insults and curses, but rather apologies.

Browsing through a few, most carried a hint of goodwill, but if she went through these private ssages deeper, she’d find that the people who praised her now were mostly the sa ones who cursed and humiliated her before.

Likes and dislikes in the virtual world co easier than in real life and are consequently more superficial.

Such things Mary Scott had experienced before, so after browsing a few ssages, she closed them and opened the trending search. There were still several hot topics about her, with a variety of thes. Thinking about it, Mary Scott sent out a tweet thanking the netizens and friends who supported her and also thanked Jas Jero, Stella Murray, Adam Piers, Zoe Thatcher, and Brian Joule as well as all the staff from the program group who forwarded their support.

Her wave of operations quickly pushed her back onto the trending list.

But David Locke forcibly took her phone away and shut it down, "Go shower and sleep."

Both of them had been on edge lately; now that things were over, all David Locke wanted was to hold Mary Scott and have a good sleep.

Mary Scott, who had been holding up, didn’t dawdle and went straight to the bathroom after her phone was taken away.

After she finished her shower, David Locke also ca out from another bathroom.

Mary Scott looked at his still slow leg, "When will your leg get better? Will there be any long-term consequences from all this strain?"

"Don’t worry, Brandon Piers will have Dr. Green’s dicine sent to tomorrow, guaranteeing I’ll be almost recovered before joining the team." David Locke knew about Brandon’s blind trust in his wife but figured since Brandon said so, it wouldn’t be far off.

Mary Scott had heard of Abigail Green’s expertise, and imdiately felt more at ease.

Having gone through so much during the day, Mary Scott was worried she might not sleep, yet she quickly fell asleep as soon as she nestled into David Locke’s arm.

...

The next day.

Mary Scott woke up to find no one beside her. She leaned against the headboard in a daze for a mont before reaching for her phone. Just as she opened it, Mia Anderson’s call ca through.

"Why so early?" Mary asked lazily.

"Early? It’s already nine, sis. Director Locke is getting on in years, and with his injured leg, can’t you guys take it easy? Do you know I’ve been calling you since seven this morning!" Mia panted.

Mary said, "...Director Locke is right next to , why don’t you repeat what you just said to him?"

"Hahaha, did I say anything just now? I didn’t, right? Mary, you’ve been working hard lately; it’s ti for a good rest," Mia said, suddenly changing her tone to please.

Mary raised an eyebrow, "That’s more like it. So, what’s up?"

"Well, LG Fashion and Raspberry Snacks both called to apologize and hope you continue with the contracts. Director Baker from the show inford us of the next recording schedule and location. Are you going? Additionally, three magazines have sent interview invitations, and there are five film scripts we’ve received..." Mia’s excitent grew as she continued.

Mary thought for a mont, "Continue with the two endorsents. Send the details for the next recording of ’Wilderness.’ Decline all the magazine interviews, but let take a look at the film scripts. I’ll check them out, and we’ll discuss the rest later."

"Got it," Mia responded imdiately, then cautiously asked, "Mary, Director Locke didn’t hear what I said earlier, did he?"

"You’re only thinking about that now?" Mary teased mischievously.

"Hehehe..."

"Well...do you think Director Locke heard it just now?"

"Heard what?" Mary had just spoken when David Locke pushed open the bedroom door and asked.

Mary got nervous, "Nothing...nothing at all."

"Who were you badmouthing to?" David approached to grab Mary’s phone, and sensing sothing was wrong, the survival instinct in Mia kicked in, and she quickly hung up.

Mary listened to the dial tone and looked innocently at David, "I didn’t badmouth you; it was Mia."

Selling out her teammate was sothing Mary did quite straightforwardly and calmly.

David chuckled, "Mia would probably be heartbroken to hear that."

"Well, that’s tough, but who could diss you? Naturally, I’m on your side," Mary smiled flatteringly.

David raised an eyebrow, "So what did she say to diss ?"

Mary, "..." Oh dear, did I just dig a hole for myself?

Thinking about what Mia said earlier, Mary felt a bit guilty, "Nothing much. I was just teasing you. Do we need to take it so seriously?"

David could guess what sensitive words Mia might have said from Mary’s response. He moved his handso face closer to Mary, "You don’t have to tell . Let’s go eat first, and then we’ll talk about how I lost last night."

Mary didn’t expect David to be so easily persuaded. She looked at his magnified handso face, feeling that he was brewing sothing mischievous.

But whatever David was planning, since he wasn’t giving her a hard ti now, she wouldn’t rush into being tornted. As for last night, since she was the winner, what was there to fear?

Pushing David aside, Mary quickly went to the bathroom to freshen up.

When she ca out, David was still waiting for her. Mary suddenly rembered sothing important, "Where are your parents?"

"They’re downstairs waiting for you to have breakfast," David said leisurely.

One sentence imdiately made Mary’s cheeks flush, and she shouted shafully, "Why didn’t you say so earlier?"

After shouting, Mary quickly ran downstairs.

Downstairs, Mrs. Twain, who was quite aggressive last night, was now in casual ho wear, leaning against the kitchen wall with one hand on her hip and the other directing Mr. Locke in the kitchen.

Mr. Locke, busy in the kitchen, had a helpless expression, but his eyes were full of indulgence. Mary stood there stunned, subconsciously turning back to look at David who followed leisurely.

Seeing her confused expression, David whispered in her ear, "That’s how they’ve spent most of their lives."

"So happy!" Mary sighed softly.

Whether it was yesterday or today, she could sense that Mr. Locke genuinely cherished Mrs. Locke with an unconditional preference.

"We can, too," David shrugged.

Mary looked at him skeptically.

"Don’t believe ?"

"The future is so long, who knows?" Hearing David’s words, Mary replied playfully.

David wasn’t annoyed by her response. The future was indeed long, so he could slowly prove it to her, no rush.

On the other side of the kitchen, the couple, with one directing and the other truly busy, finally noticed the two people in the living room. Before Mr. Locke could speak, Mrs. Twain was already in full swing, "What are you two standing there for? Aren’t you going to co and serve the dishes? Do you expect us old folks to do everything and lay it all out for you?"

Mary quickly sprinted into the kitchen to serve the dishes after hearing this.

David, however, lazily stuck one hand in his pocket and looked at his mother, "If you’re going to bully soone, bully your husband, not my wife."

"Letting her serve the dishes is bullying her?" Mrs. Twain gave her son a disdainful look.

"No, no, Auntie, don’t listen to him. I’m nimble; this is what I should do," Mary answered without hesitation. In fact, she preferred being directed by the Lockes rather than being treated as a guest.

David, intending to speak for his wife, was rendered speechless, "..." Feeling kind of betrayed!

Mrs. Twain glanced at her son’s leg, feeling satisfied. This world truly is about give and take.

David, noticing his mother’s expression, could easily guess her thoughts. He rubbed his forehead, "You little ungrateful one."

Mary stuck her tongue out at David behind Mrs. Locke’s back and continued to diligently serve the dishes.

David shook his head in resignation, just about to step forward to help, when his phone suddenly rang. He glanced over, reached to answer it, and heard Martin’s urgent voice on the other end, "Director Locke, sothing’s wrong!"

The laid-back deanor of the man instantly changed, his face turning serious.
