Chapter 785: Chapter 785: Others Are Angry, I’m Not
Listening to the two old n blatantly discuss her and Brandon’s marriage without any regard for her being right there.
Even though Abigail considered herself thick-skinned after living two lifetis, she still couldn’t help blushing slightly. The two old n were chatting enthusiastically, completely ignoring her presence.
Although Abigail felt embarrassed on the surface, her heart involuntarily filled with pink bubbles, and she developed a longing for the wedding between her and Brandon.
Previously, their engagent ceremony had been luxurious and romantic, but Abigail was well aware that the engagent wasn’t truly ant for her; it was Brandon’s gift to Ruby.
No, to be precise, it was ant for anyone suitable at that ti.
And that romantic scene, which was hailed as a classic, had no connection to Brandon. It was all just a grand performance.
She even suspected that if he hadn’t shown up later, Brandon probably wouldn’t have known what the engagent scene looked like.
So although she was the one led down the red carpet, her feelings were more of gratitude for his help rather than love.
Without love, there was no anticipation.
Moreover, at that ti, she weighed nearly 200 pounds and had been deliberately teased and humiliated by Ruby and Mona. The self-confidence she tried hard to maintain was completely shattered. No matter how much she encouraged herself, she couldn’t escape a sense of embarrassnt, or even worse embarrassnt.
That engagent ceremony ultimately beca a form of salvation for her.
It was also the beginning of her true affection for Brandon, yet it was a dark history she was reluctant to revisit.
But now things were different. They understood each other and had confidence in their future. Even Abigail, who prided herself on being rational, couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation amid the two old n’s enthusiastic discussion about the wedding.
Another important factor was her successful weight loss.
Living in the mundane world, it’s inevitable to endure the scrutiny of others. Even though she was strong enough internally to not care about those strange looks, she couldn’t stand others questioning her lover when they looked at him.
But now she could finally stand gracefully by Brandon’s side, no longer a stain on his life but a source of pride.
As Abigail listened to the two old n discuss their wedding, she couldn’t help but look forward to it. She could almost imagine how handso Brandon would be in his wedding suit, and she would be his most beautiful bride.
And Abigail believed that, given Brandon’s perfectionist nature, if it was their wedding, it would be perfect.
Thinking about this, the smile on Abigail’s face grew wider, causing Clara to joke from the side, “Alright, Dad, Uncle Piers, if you keep discussing, this girl will smile till her mouth reaches her ears.”
The two old n turned to look at Abigail.
Defiantly, Abigail gave Clara a disapproving look but then couldn’t hold back her laughter. “Grandpa, Grandfather Piers, you should hurry and eat breakfast before it gets cold.”
“Humph, you little rascal, can’t you be a bit more modest? Being so excited about marrying that boy, you’re grinning from ear to ear,” Church Smith scoffed at his granddaughter.
Abigail quickly pursed her lips in denial. “I am not! Am I such a vulgar person? I’m not interested in weddings at all.”
“Hypocrite,” Church Smith threw this at Abigail and then glared at his old friend. He leaned on his cane and slowly walked to the dining room, mumbling, “A married granddaughter is like spilled water. No wonder so many people want sons. When others marry, their family gains a person, even two or three people. But poor old , marrying a daughter ans losing one…”
The more Church Smith spoke, the sadder he beca. After being stubborn his whole life, his old eyes grew red.
Listening to this, Abigail felt embarrassed and guilty. She ran up to support Church Smith’s arm. “Grandpa, what are you talking about? Don’t I stay with you every day?”
“Then co back to the Courtyard House with . Living in soone else’s house while you’re unmarried, what does that look like?” As he said this, Old Mr. Smith rembered that Abigail could return ho with him.
Abigail was taken aback, forgetting how to react for a mont. If Old Mr. Smith hadn’t ntioned it, she might not have even realized the issue.
Previously, she had moved into the Piers’ old mansion as Teddy’s nanny, and later when they moved to Swallow City, she naturally stayed at Moon Lake Manor with Teddy. She hadn’t even thought about or considered the concept of cohabitating before marriage.
Last ti, she was very angry and hurt over Brandon and Bertha’s incident. She left with Teddy. Yet sohow, she moved back in for Brandon’s sake without feeling anything was wrong.
But now as her grandfather pointed it out, she realized what she had been doing all this ti, blushing furiously.
Cohabitating before marriage, cohabitating before marriage…
Sothing she wouldn’t have dared to think of in her past life, now she had done it so naturally.
Especially thinking about Brandon, that rogue, who didn’t know moderation recently. Everyone, including Old Mr. Smith and Clara, knew they slept in the sa room.
Before this invisible line was crossed, everything was fine. But as soon as it was, Abigail felt like she had nowhere to stand, awkwardly rooted to the spot.
Church Smith felt the sudden awkward silence after his words and, upon seeing his granddaughter’s awkward yet determined face, wished he could slap himself.
Fortunately, Grayson Piers, experienced in such matters, quickly changed the topic. “Hey, Church, where were we just now about the wedding? Oh, right, the dowry. Although I don’t have any stocks or funds under my na, I do have so valuable treasures that I’ll prepare as Abigail’s dowry. What about you, you old scoundrel? What are you preparing for Abigail?”
“Worthless treasures, you’re still willing to bring those out? Tell , what do you have…”
The two old n chatted as they walked into the dining room.
Clara poked the red-faced Abigail. “Why are you blushing? There’s nothing to be ashad of. In situations like this, rember, whoever panics first will feel awkward. As long as you don’t feel awkward, the others will.”
“Mom is right,” Daniel quickly chid in with flattery.
Abigail, already feeling awkward, “…”
She suddenly felt that the bond she had been building with Clara over the past few days was all for nothing, feeling utterly mocked.
In the end, both families agreed on the wedding for Abigail and Brandon. They decided to start planning after the current turmoil settled. Abigail dared not say a word further.
After breakfast, Abigail escorted her grandfather and Clara out.
Clara, completely unaware of the rift forming in their mother-daughter relationship due to her earlier comnts, held Abigail’s hand before leaving. “Let know when you feel better, and I’ll co to stay with you.”
Abigail had already recovered from her earlier embarrassnt and understood that her grandfather and mother were returning to the Courtyard House mainly because Eva had just had surgery and couldn’t handle the stress anymore.
Looking at the person in the wheelchair, Abigail suddenly thought to herself, having soone to lean on felt really good.
But the next mont, she heard her own grandpa, oh no, it should be her grandpa on her mother’s side, turn around just before getting into the car and say, “Are you really not considering going back to the Courtyard House?”
Abigail used to depend on Church Smith for her life, and she always called him grandpa. Old Mr. Smith also publicly declared Abigail as his granddaughter, and even her surna followed the Smith surna. But now that Clara Smith was back, calling Clara her godmother while still claiming to be the granddaughter seed a bit odd.
However, Abigail was still used to calling him grandpa. Hearing her grandpa’s question, she blinked at the old man in frustration, “No, I am water that has been spilled.”
“You haven’t been spilled yet.” Church Smith replied softly and quickly got into the car.
Even Daniel couldn’t help but chuckle.
Abigail, “…”
Alright, who said this grandpa was faking it.
Abigail shook her head helplessly, an idea suddenly popped into her mind, perhaps she wasn’t really suitable to stay at Moon Lake Manor. Maybe she should move back to Rose Valley before the wedding?
Thinking of this, Abigail absentmindedly greeted Elder Piers and slowly went to check on Eva Bell.
Watching Abigail’s departing figure, Elder Piers couldn’t help but shake his head. It seed the wedding of these two kids should be sooner rather than later.
Thinking of this, Grayson Piers sent a ssage to his grandson, “Rember to see tonight after you finish. We have sothing important to discuss.”
As Abigail neared Eva Bell’s room, the more she thought about what her grandpa said, the more embarrassed she felt, so she sent Brandon Piers a ssage, “Eva’s post-op recovery seems fine. I’ll move back to Rose Valley in a few days.”
After sending it, she felt it might be abrupt and added, “I rented that place for a year, not living there would be a waste.”
After waiting for a while with no reply from Brandon, Abigail guessed he was busy. She put away her phone and walked into Eva’s room.
Eva Bell had woken up, but she was very weak, with a poor complexion, no longer having the stunning look she had when Abigail first t her. However, she looked more gentle, befitting her age.
But this gentle facade disappeared imdiately upon seeing Abigail. Her whole body tensed up, and she spoke stiffly, “Don’t think I’ll be grateful to you just because you saved .”
“You can say so many words, it seems you’re in good spirits. See you later then.” Abigail originally just ca to check Eva’s post-op condition, and seeing Eva could still mock her, she decided to skip other physical checks and turned to leave.
Eva, “…”
Beep beep beep!
The life monitor suddenly blared, giving off alarming warnings.
Abigail, who was about to leave, paused, “Calm down, don’t get angry, getting sick from anger helps no one. Who would wish you well if you die from anger?”
Beep beep beep beep beep beep…
Abigail, “…”
If she said she really just wanted to calm Eva down, would anyone believe her?
No choice, Jas Carter gave Eva a sedative injection, and her heartbeat gradually returned to normal. After finishing, he looked at Abigail for help, “Madam, it might be better if you don’t co.”
Abigail felt wronged; she just wanted to check on her patient. It was her habit from years of working!
Unfortunately, Abigail knew that any explanation now would be useless.
Helplessly leaving Eva’s room, Abigail suddenly felt a bit bored. She took out her phone to check, Brandon still hadn’t replied.
Abigail sighed lightly; the busier Brandon was, the more she understood the severity of the situation. But she believed Brandon could handle it. After all, Benjamin Jones was defending him in court this ti.
Everyone knew Benjamin had never lost a case.
Thinking of this, Abigail stopped worrying unnecessarily. With Caron Theodore traveling around Arica, she could stay ho and spend ti with Teddy. With this realization, Abigail’s steps beca lighter and she walked back to the main house over the cobbled path.
However, after circling around, Abigail couldn’t find Teddy, but saw an unfamiliar won’s bag in the hallway instead. It was a basic Chanel handbag.
It wasn’t that Abigail had a particular interest in bags, but this one was a hot item. Lena Locke just happened to have one in a different color. As for why Abigail noticed this bag, it was mainly because, besides her and Eva, there weren’t many other won in the manor. Abigail herself didn’t have specific requirents for bags; she used the ones Brandon picked for her, ranging from tens of thousands to millions in price. But never this one.
As for Eva, it was even less likely. She had seen her bags a few tis; the cheapest one was over thirty thousand dollars, so this basic model was impossible.
The manor’s maids wouldn’t leave a bag in the hallway either. Abigail felt slightly puzzled, but mostly more concerned because she couldn’t find Teddy. When Housekeeper Piers ca downstairs, Abigail quickly asked, “Uncle Piers, where is Teddy? And do we have any guests?”
Housekeeper Piers replied quickly, “The little master is in the early education room on the third floor. And no guests, just the little master’s early education teacher. The master himself selected her, but has been too busy to inform you until now.”
Abigail nodded. She had realized during the oceanarium trip that early education needed to be prioritized, but it slipped her mind due to all the subsequent events. Hearing Teddy was in the third-floor early education room made her feel a bit guilty, “Thank you, Uncle Piers. I’ll go have a look.”
Saying that, Abigail quietly headed up to the third floor.
The third floor of the main house wasn’t used much. Besides Brandon’s gym, the remaining rooms were empty. Abigail had always seen the adjacent door closed, not giving it much thought. Now that the door was finally open, she saw it had already been converted into a large early education classroom.
Abigail gently pushed the door open and saw a young, scholarly-looking girl guiding Teddy in so physical exercises. Aunt Claudia and another maid were standing to the side. Seeing Abigail co in, Aunt Claudia walked over softly, “Abigail, you’re here. I didn’t know Teddy could do so much now. This early education really makes a difference!”
“Hmm.” Listening to Aunt Claudia’s happy words, Abigail looked warmly at Teddy, who was following the female teacher’s movents. The little guy had a strong ability to imitate; he could follow the teacher’s movents after just one demonstration. Though he was small and so actions were not accurate, his clumsy cuteness made Abigail show a proud motherly smile.
Finally managing to tear her eyes away from Teddy, Abigail started really looking around the early education room. The design and decor were very child-friendly, with excellent safety features. The color sche was appropriate, and various early education toys were well-prepared.
After examining everything, Aunt Claudia whispered to Abigail, “The classroom is nice, right? Housekeeper Piers said it was personally designed by the second young master and supervised by the old master. Unfortunately, you weren’t around at that ti, so you didn’t get to participate.”
Abigail was stunned, realizing it must have been during the ti she was hypnotized that Brandon designed it. Her heart ward, feeling how ticulous the man was, as she had never considered Teddy’s early education before.
Just as Abigail was lost in thought, Teddy’s session ended. The young girl, noticing Abigail, showed a bit of amazent in her eyes and then stepped forward, “Mrs. Piers, hello. I’m the early education teacher for the little master, Sophia Patel.”
Abigail found the girl’s na sowhat familiar but couldn’t recall it at the mont. She smiled politely, “Nice to et you.”
