When the ambulance arrived, it wasn’t during rush hour, so it drove quickly. But on the way back to the hospital, it hit peak traffic, significantly slowing its speed.
At a red light, the driver slowly stopped the car, then quickly got out. Just as Joshua Piers’ n were about to get in, a motorcycle sped by, knocking them over. The next mont, the light turned green; Joshua noticed a car approaching them.
Without hesitation, Joshua leaped into the driver’s seat from the back and pulled the door shut in one swift motion.
The bang of the closing door sent shivers down the spines of the two ergency doctors, who didn’t understand what was happening, let alone why the driver changed mid-journey, or what the bang outside was.
“Wipe the sweat.” Abigail Green was at a critical mont in the surgery. She blocked out all the noise, focusing solely on the operation. Only the sweat nearly dripping into her eyes made her hoarsely command.
The two ergency doctors snapped out of it and quickly wiped Abigail’s sweat.
Joshua glanced at Abigail through the rearview mirror, then shifted his focus outside. He had rarely driven since his leg injury, but given the current situation, he had no choice.
After a brief adjustnt, Joshua pressed the accelerator. The car shuddered violently. If Abigail’s hands hadn’t been steady, it could have been disastrous. She glanced disapprovingly at the driver’s seat, noticing the driver was now Joshua, and spoke irritably, “If you end up killing her, I won’t acknowledge the deal we made.”
Joshua remained silent and focused on driving. Being sharp-minded, he soon mastered the car’s condition, and it regained its stability.
This stability didn’t last long. The car that had been tailing the ambulance started closing in more intentionally. Suddenly, the motorcycle from before reappeared. Joshua saw through the rearview mirror that the rider lifted sothing.
Joshua didn’t need to guess what it was. His face darkened, preparing to accelerate. But rembering Abigail’s words, he hesitated. While he didn’t have deep feelings for Dorothy Piers, she was his elder brother’s only child and overly trusted him. No matter how ruthless he was, he couldn’t let this well-behaved girl die before him.
As Joshua hesitated, the helted biker was already about to pull the trigger.
“Hold on tight,” Joshua shouted softly.

Almost imdiately after, Joshua heard a bang, but the tire didn’t burst, and the windshield was intact. The car continued moving…
What happened?
Even Joshua was taken aback. Since it was a personal trip and he brought Dora to the oceanarium, he hadn’t brought many people. Only two were currently with him, shielding the ambulance from those trying to approach.
Joshua’s phone rang, confirming his suspicions. “Mr. Joshua, that was Brandon’s n just now,” the subordinate reported.
Glancing at the rearview mirror, Joshua saw the car that hit the motorcyclist was now protecting the ambulance from the other side.
But Joshua wasn’t at ease. If Leo’s n were involved, blood would be shed before they were satisfied.
After all, his return to Z Nation had used Croft Family’s resources, stirring ill will in his foes. His carelessness in boarding the ambulance gave them a golden opportunity.
Joshua’s suspicions were confird when the road narrowed, forcing back-up vehicles to retreat, creating a tense situation. “What’s happening?” he asked.
“Mr. Joshua, the front is under tro construction, and only one lane is open,” ca a ssage from the trailing vehicle.
Joshua quickly decided to backtrack and switch lanes.
Just then, a car suddenly erged from the bend, speeding toward the ambulance.
With nowhere to swerve, Joshua coldly eyed the incoming car. He had two choices: collide head-on or swerve right, crashing into a building.
Both options could kill Dora.
Looking in the rearview mirror, the woman performing surgery remained focused, while the two ergency doctors noticed sothing was wrong, casting nervous glances his way.
Joshua withdrew his gaze from Abigail, flicked his tongue against his upper jaw, and said, “Abigail Green, stop. Hold on tight.”
Abigail, in the middle of surgery, didn’t hear Joshua. An ergency doctor had to whisper to her.
Abigail snapped out, “What’s wrong?”
“A car is heading straight for us,” Joshua reported in a relaxed tone, as if comnting on the weather, making the cabin eerily quiet.
Abigail responded, “…So?”
“Hold on,” Joshua unusually showed patience to a stranger.
Abigail’s hands didn’t stop, nor could they. “If I stop now, she will die.”
Ignoring Joshua, she focused on the surgery. The two ergency doctors, terrified of an impending crash, were too scared to keep assisting.
“Continue,” Abigail commanded with an authorizing tone, regaining their focus.
Awed by her imposing presence, they shook off their fear and resud assisting her.
This surprised Joshua. He had never t a woman, or doctor, like Abigail. Despite being forewarned of the danger, she remained unmoved. Was a stranger’s life more important than her own?
Instinctively, Joshua initially planned to avoid the incoming car, seeking minimal personal harm.
Abigail’s words made him reconsider, soul-searchingly deciding to face the oncoming vehicle.
Bang!
The massive crash shook the ground. Joshua hit the brakes hard, staring at the car nearly hitting the ambulance but now crashing into a tro construction pit, covered in dirt.
