Chapter 400: Chapter 400: Won’t Die, But Will Feel Very Uncomfortable Chapter 400: Chapter 400: Won’t Die, But Will Feel Very Uncomfortable Abigail only realized what Brandon had said after she grunted in acknowledgent.
Going back to Swallow City?
Even though she had known they were going back to Swallow City, it was only when they were almost ready to leave that she realized there were still many things to handle.
“We’ll leave in five days. If you have anything to take care of these days, do it now. If you can’t finish, don’t worry about it. We’ll be back to see Grandfather during the New Year.” Brandon saw her concern and reminded her.
“Grandfather isn’t coming with us?” Abigail was surprised.
“The situation over there is complicated. Grandfather is getting old; it’s better to let him enjoy his peace here than risk his health over there.” Brandon’s reply was indifferent.
Abigail glanced at him. “If Grandfather heard that, he would be furious.”
“Then you’d be underestimating Grandfather. If sothing like that could anger him, he wouldn’t have lived this long,” Brandon teased.
Abigail looked outside, “Grandfather, did you hear that?”
“Hmph, I’ve lived this long because of my good fortune. If you can outlive , go ahead!” The old man retorted angrily, his beard twitching.
Looking into his grandson’s scrutinizing eyes, Grandfather Piers suddenly beca cautious and took a step back. “What are you thinking about, stop it!” he shouted, then looked at Abigail. “Abigail, Grandfather can’t go with you to Swallow City, but you must co back often if you have ti.”
“Okay.” Unwittingly, Abigail had already spent more than four months with Elder Piers. These four months had been the most relaxed and happy ti for both Abigail and herself.
Elder Piers was the most open-minded and kind elder she had ever been with over the years.
Speaking of parting, Abigail really couldn’t bear to leave.
“It’s not ti to say goodbye yet. We might have everything sorted over there in a few days,” Brandon saw her emotions and replied nonchalantly, leaning lazily on the sofa.
Elder Piers looked at his grandson with a complicated expression and spoke earnestly, “Brandon, no matter what happens, they are still your uncles. We have to leave so room in our actions. This isn’t for them, nor out of sentint, but to prevent us from becoming like them.”
Brandon snorted coldly, “If it weren’t for your old-fashioned thinking, would the Piers have ended up like this? I know how to handle the company’s matters. Just take care of yourself and stop worrying about so many things; it’s endless.”
“You…” The old man was so angry he choked, “Fine, fine, you’re so capable, disobedient child!”
He banged his cane twice and stord off furiously.
Abigail frowned, “Can’t you avoid hitting Grandfather’s sore spots?”
“It won’t kill , but it would make very uncomfortable.” Brandon spread his hands, showing no remorse.
Abigail shook her head in disapproval.
Brandon looked at his grandfather’s sowhat lonely back, “If I don’t hit his sore spots, how will he face reality?”
“Okay then. What are your plans next?” Abigail thought of her five percent share in the Piers and figured it might speed up the man’s takeover.
“We’ll see when we get back. Grandfather is too gentle, which has led to serious rot in the Piers’ internal system, outdated managent, and complex personal connections. Dealing with it is quite tedious and troubleso. This ss won’t be easy to clean up.” When thinking of the Piers, Brandon’s eyes showed so disgust; he evidently didn’t like it.
“What about the shares? I…”
Buzz, buzz, buzz!
“Hold on, let take this call.” Abigail was about to ntion the five percent of Piers shares she held, offering to transfer it or help Brandon if needed. But just then, Brandon’s phone rang and interrupted her.
After finishing the call, Brandon looked at Abigail, “Johnson disappeared.”
“Disappeared?” Abigail couldn’t understand what he ant.
“The people we sent to track Johnson lost him this morning. They searched everywhere he might have gone but found nothing. It’s as if he vanished into thin air.” Brandon explained patiently.
“How could this be? What about Hughes? Didn’t you recruit him?” Abigail asked urgently.
Brandon’s face turned dark, “Is he the first person you thought of?”
“Is my question unreasonable?” Abigail was a bit confused by his question.
“Oh, he was sentenced to a year in prison for damaging public network security, so you won’t be seeing him for a while.”
Abigail, “…” What’s with the sour tone?
“Are there any other ways?” Abigail shifted the topic.
“I guess he’s lying low sowhere. Unlike Rose and Ruby, Johnson is silent and reserved, yet he strikes fatally like a venomous snake. However, he probably feels deep guilt towards Rose and her daughter, so I estimate he won’t be far from Silence ntal Hospital.” Brandon analyzed.
Abigail imdiately thought of Johnson’s dark, thin, and quiet face. But when he swung the iron rod that night, his clean and swift movents sent a chill down her spine. “What about the accident back then? Did he deliberately hit my mother, or was it preditated?”
If it was preditated, Abigail wouldn’t let Johnson go.
“According to the findings, it was an accident.” Brandon had already had people investigate it. “Though Felix had been out for a few years back then, his criminal record made it hard for him to find satisfactory work. He ended up driving for a trucking company. He hit your mother due to fatigue driving, then fled the scene, adopting the na Johnson Harrison afterwards.”
“And Rose? How did she get involved with Lincoln Pharmaceuticals and et Lincoln Green?” If that part was an accident, Abigail didn’t believe Rose’s entry into Lincoln Pharmaceuticals was re coincidence.
“Given the tiline, it wasn’t coincidental. Rose likely t you and your mother after Felix hit your mother, and then she set her plans. Step by step, she went from being a cleaner in Lincoln Pharmaceuticals’ logistics to becoming the boss’s wife.” Brandon had to admit his admiration for her determination.
When a woman is ruthless, n don’t stand a chance.
Abigail took a deep breath, “So, it seems Johnson doesn’t have a suspected murder intent.”
After saying that, Abigail actually felt relief. She preferred to believe Minnie Swift’s death was an accident rather than a preditated murder.
At least it was easier to accept.
“Don’t overthink it. I’ll have people keep an eye on him and Ruby.” Brandon gently rubbed Abigail’s head, refusing to let her continue thinking about it.
Abigail nodded, “Yeah, since we’re going back to Swallow City, I need to settle things on Lincoln Green’s side too.”
Not only that, Abigail also planned to return to her old apartnt. Ever since her rebirth, she had always wanted to go back, handle so things, but never found the ti.
Now they were soon heading to Swallow City, who knew when she’d co back again.
“I’ll have Pullan take you,” Brandon said, awkwardly adding, “Do you need to go with you?”
“No, I’m good.” she answered firmly.
Brandon suddenly raised his voice, “Pullan, take the young lady to the city hospital.”
Abigail, “…”
Walking out the house, Abigail realized she hadn’t said she needed to go now!
As for the share issue, she completely forgot about it.
