Chapter 252: Chapter 252: The Two Faces of a Woman

Lincoln Green shivered under Ruby Green’s gaze.

He had never seen his stepdaughter look at him like that, as if she wanted to tear him apart.

“Ruby, you…”

Slap!

Just as Lincoln Green was pointing at Ruby Green in astonishnt, Rose Taylor suddenly got up and slapped Ruby across the face.

That slap was no light hit, leaving both Lincoln Green and Ruby Green dumbfounded.

They stared at Rose Taylor in a daze.

Rose, however, was the first to cover her face in pain, then she hugged her daughter, “Ruby, my Ruby, I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault for not raising you right, for letting you covet things that aren’t yours. I know you’ve suffered a lot since you were little, been stubborn, always wanting the best. But Master Piers… he’s not soone people like us can covet. Listen to your mom, don’t feel bad, don’t feel bad…”

As she spoke, Rose gently patted Ruby Green’s back as if soothing a baby. Soon, Ruby closed her eyes, and shortly after, soft snores could be heard.

Ruby Green had fallen asleep.

Rose Taylor, with reddened eyes, looked at Lincoln Green, “Honey, help lay Ruby flat.”

Lincoln temporarily put aside everything else, stepped forward to help lay Ruby down flat. During the move, Ruby, still asleep, occasionally flinched, looking extrely insecure, her eyes red, appearing very pitiful.

As he watched this Ruby Green, Lincoln Green, who had previously felt disgust and suspicion due to Ruby’s violent temper and resentful gaze, suddenly felt he had made a big deal out of nothing. She was just a little girl, and he was actually picking on this little girl, especially since this girl was his stepdaughter.

He sighed lightly and softly said to Rose Taylor, “This child has indeed suffered too many grievances recently. Try to enlighten her more often, don’t let her keep it all bottled up.”

Rose, with reddened eyes, nodded. But as Lincoln was about to leave the room, she quickly followed and hugged him from behind.

Lincoln’s heart suddenly softened completely. “Didn’t I ask you to take care of Ruby?”

“I’ll bandage you first, then I’ll go stay with Ruby. The child is important, but my husband is more important. After all, she’s going to get married eventually. It’s us who will be together for a lifeti.” Rose whispered softly, with an uncontrollable tenderness.

Lincoln always fell for this, turned around and hugged the woman back, “Rose, you’ve worked hard. Over the years, it’s you who care about the most and understand the best.”

“And love you the most.” Rose shyly added.

The forty-sothing woman was well-maintained, not only not looking old but rather more graceful. After speaking, she took Lincoln’s hand like a little woman, guided him to the main bedroom’s sofa, poured a cup of hot water, watched him drink it all, then carefully tended to his wound.

After finishing, she massaged Lincoln’s muscles to relax his body. Lincoln enjoyed this service very much and soon fell asleep on the sofa.

As soon as Lincoln closed his eyes, Ruby Green walked in like a ghost, “Mom, is he asleep?”

Rose Taylor’s expression changed, no longer the gentle one from before. She got up, walked out of the master bedroom, and slapped Ruby across the face again, “Do you know your mistake?”

“Mom!” Ruby cried out softly.

“Do you know what you were doing just now? Without the Piers’ favor, we still depend on that useless man. If he suspects anything, what will happen to us? What will happen to you?” Rose rcilessly questioned her daughter.

Ruby knew she had acted impulsively today, lowered her head, and looked at her mother aggrieved, “Mom, I know I was wrong, but I really don’t want to marry Clark Stone…”
