“Lawyer… Lawyer Jones?” Clark Stone asked uncertainly.
“Hello, I am Benjamin Jones.” Benjamin Jones’s low male voice was calm with a natural raspiness, both magnetic and alluring, but his deanor was strict and cold, making people wary of approaching him.
This contrast made him all the more charming.
Clark Stone didn’t expect it to really be Benjamin Jones. “Lawyer Jones, hello. It’s an honor to have you at my engagent party!”
Lincoln Green, who had been scolding Abigail, also looked over. He had heard of Benjamin Jones, renowned in Swallow City despite his young age. “I am.” Abigail looked at her friend, but had to assu the deanor of a stranger.
“Are you Abigail’s friend? Did you commission ?” Benjamin Jones had many questions, but it was clearly not the ti to ask them.
“Yes.” Abigail nodded. Her gaze landed on Benjamin Jones, her eyes slightly moist. The last ti they t was a year ago. She never thought their next reunion would feel like a lifeti apart.
Behind her, Kennan Max was puzzled. When did Miss Abigail beco acquainted with Lawyer Jones? And from the sound of it, she had commissioned him? How was that possible?
Not to ntion Gills City, even the high society in Swallow City from recent years would likely have difficulty inviting this legendary figure, not to ntion others. Yet, from the look of Lawyer Jones, he was here specifically for Miss Abigail. It was indeed strange.
Kennan Max wasn’t the only one who found it strange. When Benjamin Jones passed through the crowd towards Abigail, everyone’s gazes were filled with curiosity, especially Clark Stone’s.
He couldn’t understand how this fat woman knew Lawyer Jones.
Rose Taylor didn’t know Benjamin Jones but overheard the whispers around her, realizing he was a formidable lawyer. An uneasy feeling surged within her, and she tugged Lincoln Green’s arm. “Honey, shouldn’t we start the engagent ceremony? We need to head to Ruby’s later.”
“Oh, right, Clark, don’t waste ti. Let’s start the ceremony.” Lincoln Green said. Taking Rose Taylor, they moved towards the front, but his expression changed when he saw Aunt Claudia with reddened eyes. “Why is she still here? Jackson, take her out.”
Aunt Claudia’s eyes had been red since Abigail entered in her wedding dress, holding back tears while keeping her eyes fixed on Abigail. She rembered Minnie’s reluctant gaze at young Abigail before she passed away. Now, so many years had passed, and the baby in swaddling clothes had grown into an adult who didn’t need her protection. In fact, she could even protect her now.
The feeling that “our girl has grown up” made Aunt Claudia feel both happy and sad. But she didn’t dare step forward, fearing her presence might disrupt Abigail. Upon hearing Lincoln Green’s reprimand, she quickly dried her tears and got up nervously, about to explain when Jackson Taylor grabbed her by the collar. “You bitch, trying to run!”
“Mm…” Aunt Claudia groaned in pain.
“Let her go!” Abigail rushed forward.
Her voice was loud, drawing the attention of everyone at the engagent party.
Lincoln Green’s face turned hard, warning his daughter. “Abigail!”
Clark Stone took the opportunity to signal the master of ceremonies to start the ceremony. He himself respectfully gestured towards Benjamin Jones, indicating for him to join in. Regardless of why Benjamin Jones was at his engagent party, it was an imnse honor for him and the Stone family.
But, to his surprise, Benjamin Jones did not even lift an eyelid.
