Chapter 1117: Chapter 1027: Could it be that the egg got smashed?
Bertha Swift noticed lanie Quinn’s gaze on Charles Carter, and wondered if it was just her imagination. She felt that, although lanie’s face remained expressionless, there was an inexplicable chill.
“You’re not thinking of beating him up, are you?” Bertha couldn’t help but lean back slightly and whispered.
lanie shook her head, “How could I? Miss Swift, rest assured, I’m not that kind of brute.”
As she finished speaking, Charles happened to pass by the set’s props, which included wooden stakes used for martial arts training in the play. lanie’s lips suddenly curled into a smile. Her hand moved slightly and Charles suddenly tripped, stumbling towards the stake.
“Aaaahhh…”
The crew had already restarted their busy preparations for the upcoming shoot, ignoring Charles, until his sudden piercing scream—like a slaughtered pig—startled many. Everyone looked over in alarm and saw Charles sprawled on the wooden stake.
A nearby staff mber hurried over to pull him up, but Charles toppled sideways onto the ground, clutching his groin, still howling in pain.
At first, everyone was puzzled, thinking he just fell. Was it worth such a fuss? Could he be faking it?
Everyone hesitated, but then soone murmured, “Did he hurt his… jewels?”
This comnt instantly enlightened everyone, filling them with sympathy as they looked at Charles on the ground. Soone added, “Can’t be that bad, right?”
“Get him to a hospital!” the assistant director ordered imdiately upon arriving at the commotion and seeing Charles’s convulsed body and ashen face.
The assistant director’s words snapped the onlookers out of their daze. The production assistants quickly gathered people to lift Charles. His once handso face twisted grotesquely with pain, cold sweat soaking his costu, his body twitching, hands still covering his private area, with groans of pain escaping his lips, making even a glance unsettling.
Could he really have hurt his jewels? Tsk tsk!
The entire set was in chaos until Charles was taken away in a car, restoring order.
But with Charles injured, his scenes couldn’t be fild anymore. Bertha didn’t have to continue working alongside him. Feeling secretly relieved, she cast a startled glance at lanie.
Joy Polly’s expression was also complex, but neither of them thought lanie went too far, just curious about how she managed it.
lanie, however, remained expressionless, as if it had nothing to do with her.
Silently, Bertha and Joy gave her a thumbs up in their hearts.
But Edmund Noyes had a headache. It was only the second day of filming, and the crew had already encountered a series of incidents, making him wonder if he hadn’t burned enough incense yesterday, offending so deity?
Frustrated, filming had to go on, so he ordered the production manager to rearrange today’s shooting schedule.
Every crew mber, seeing the director’s foul mood, acted as quiet as quails, afraid of being scolded if they stood out. But just then, Loona Kin suddenly rushed in front of Bertha Swift, “Why did you harm Mr. Carter?”
“Huh?” Bertha’s mouth gaped slightly, perhaps due to the surprise, she looked at Loona with a sowhat dazed and adorable expression.
But Loona couldn’t appreciate Bertha’s beauty, thinking it irkso. Seeing Bertha’s reaction, Loona sneered, “Don’t pretend. I heard you and your assistant talking about teaching Mr. Carter a lesson, and then minutes later, he’s hurt. What kind of coincidence is that?”
Initially worried Loona might have actual evidence against her, Bertha now found it laughable, realizing Loona was fishing for information. Her numb expression faded, replaced by amusent, “Isn’t it possible for such coincidences to exist? Besides, did I really say anything about dealing with Mr. Carter? How co I don’t know about it?”
“You’re still denying it! You were clearly discussing it just now!” Loona pressed on relentlessly.
“The spot where Mr. Carter fell is over two ters away from us. Even if we’d wanted to do sothing to him, how could we have managed it? Moreover, there should have been others around where Mr. Carter fell, so why not let them explain what happened?” Bertha responded calmly.
“Yes, I was right behind Mr. Carter, and it seed he tripped on his overly long costu,” soone, frustrated by Loona’s arrogance, stepped in to support Bertha, mainly because he was closest to Charles earlier and feared being implicated by the two.
Sure enough, upon hearing this, Loona was displeased, “Who knows if Bertha bribed you to push Mr. Carter?”
The man’s expression turned incredulous, saying after a mont, “Your imagination is truly vivid!”
“Let’s check the surveillance caras!” Loona suggested boldly. In truth, she hadn’t overheard anything but was influenced by Jocelyn’s comnt about the oddity of Charles’s fall possibly relating to Bertha and her group. Noting their peculiar expressions after Charles’s injury, she ca to probe the situation.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she ntioned checking the footage, Bertha’s expression changed, further convincing Loona there was sothing suspicious, “Are you afraid?”
Many on the set were veterans of the industry, familiar with celebrities’ two-faced ways. Loona was notoriously domineering, making them initially sympathize with Bertha, thinking Loona was causing trouble after being upstaged yesterday. But with the suggestion to check the footage and Bertha’s silence, they cast doubtful glances at Bertha.
Could it be true that Charles was pushed by soone on Bertha’s orders?
Everyone was aware of the grievances between Charles and Bertha from the previous night, realizing they had beco enemies. They simply hadn’t expected Bertha to take actions against him on set, so ruthlessly… and their perception of Bertha shifted.
Bertha was slightly flustered but quickly felt soone reassuringly squeeze her shoulder, calming her imdiately, “The innocent have nothing to fear. Since Teacher Loona wants to investigate, I have no objection. But what if the surveillance shows Mr. Carter’s fall was just an accident?”
Loona, already suspicious of Bertha’s guilty conscience from her earlier reaction, trusted her instincts even more when Bertha agreed to investigate but posed a challenge. Her confidence in being right rose from thirty to sixty percent, “What do you propose?”
“How about leaving the crew?” Bertha simply wanted to focus on acting. However, dealing with neither Loona nor her agent, Jocelyn, would be easy. She couldn’t imagine what might happen over the next two to three months of shooting.
Though unafraid of them, Bertha found their antics troubleso.
If situations like last night’s kept arising, how could she concentrate on acting? The energy needed to handle these issues would detract from her ability to portray her character well.
Ever since she began acting, Bertha has been determined and passionate, wanting to play her role to the best of her abilities, living up to the audience’s expectations.
Given the opportunity by Loona, Bertha didn’t mind pushing her out of the production.
Wow!
After Bertha’s proposal, the set went silent for three seconds, followed by an uproar. Wasn’t this demand a bit excessive?
But thinking about Loona Kin’s troubleso behavior, leaving the crew doesn’t seem so bad!
Loona Kin completely didn’t expect Bertha Swift to propose such a suggestion. At first, she found it unbelievable, then suddenly raised an eyebrow, “You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? Trying to provoke to make back down? Dream on! With your behavior, the surveillance will be checked today, whether you want it or not!”
“I said you can check, but if it turns out that this matter has nothing to do with , you leave the crew!” Bertha Swift abruptly beca assertive, shedding the serene elegance she previously displayed, showing off an air of a proud princess.
Loona Kin choked, “What if it’s you or your people who did it?”
“I’ll leave the crew.” Bertha Swift replied firmly and forcefully.
At this, not only Loona Kin but others in the crew were stunned, all looking at Bertha Swift in disbelief.
Bertha Swift smiled, “What’s the matter? Are you scared now?”
Loona Kin didn’t expect Bertha Swift to speak so boldly, her eyes montarily showing panic, subconsciously looking towards Jocelyn Spencer.
At this mont, Jocelyn Spencer frowned, she didn’t expect Bertha Swift to be so daring. Did she hear or see it wrong? But Charles Carter’s injury earlier clearly seed suspicious, and when Loona Kin questioned Bertha Swift, Bertha clearly faltered, not appearing fake.
While thinking, Jocelyn Spencer suddenly realized from Kelly Brown’s deliberately composed deanor that they were being intentionally strong to make Loona Kin back off.
With this thought, Jocelyn Spencer looked reassuringly at Loona Kin.
Seeing this, Loona Kin imdiately cald down. With Jocelyn so sure, she thought the other side must be intentionally trying to scare her into giving up, how could she fall for it? On the contrary, this is a great opportunity to kick Bertha Swift out.
The incident between Bertha Swift and Charles Carter that fernted yesterday affected Bertha, but whether she would leave ultimately depended on the director’s decision. If the director considered that Bertha is an artist under Piers and didn’t drive her away, all efforts would be in vain. But now, it’s different; as long as it is proven that Charles Carter’s injury is related to Bertha Swift, she can directly expel her.
Understanding this, Loona Kin looked at Bertha Swift with a bit of mockery, secretly Tsukkomi about Bertha’s cleverness, “Fine, what am I afraid of?”
Bertha Swift smiled slightly and looked at Director Noyes, who was watching the commotion from not far away, “Director Noyes, you’re the person in charge of the crew, can you witness for us?”
The assistant director was worried just now, fearing these two would quarrel and negatively impact the crew, wanting to stop them but was held back by the director. Later, seeing them making more and more outrageous claims, even setting a huge agreent to leave the crew, he was extrely anxious, but Director Noyes remained calm, asking him to stay composed.
Even Deputy Director Edmund Noyes didn’t expect to be pulled into the drama halfway through watching it. He glared at Bertha Swift, but realized that for the crew to achieve peace, one of these two really had to go. Whilst he felt satisfied, he still showed anger on his face, “Nonsense!”
……
Refresh later.
Bertha Swift wasn’t afraid of the opponent, but she found it troubleso.
If things like last night happened every day, how could she continue filming? She might as well just deal with these issues, and she wasn’t sure she could portray the role well in such a state.
Even though she just started acting, Bertha Swift has always been competitive, hoping to play her role well within her capabilities, without letting herself or the audience down.
And since Loona Kin provided her such an opportunity, she wouldn’t mind driving the other out of the crew.
Crash!
After Bertha Swift finished speaking, there was a three-second silence at the scene, followed by an uproar. Wasn’t this… a bit too much?
