Mary Scott couldn’t understand why Assistant Jonah said soone online claid to see her with a man. How did it turn into a dia rumor about David Locke and a fashion brand woman? This negativity really knows no bounds!
Her silly brother happened to believe it!
Mary looked at her brother’s flushed cheeks as he blurted out, "Aren’t you ashad?" with a guilty red face herself. But to maintain authority in front of her brother, she calmly replied, "What’s shaful about a legally married couple going to see a movie? Alfred Scott, what’s in your head?"
"What’s in my head? Isn’t it what the Internet says..."
"Whatever the Internet says goes? If the Internet says I’m your mom, would you believe it?" Mary rudely interrupted her brother.
Alfred stood there, stunned, "Moll, that’s too much!"
"Has no one ever said that?" Mary asked coolly.
Alfred swallowed, recalling when Mary was bashed, and soone indeed claid he was the child Mary had with a sugar daddy, making him fall silent.
"From now on, don’t pay attention to those ridiculous news articles. Focus on preparing your graduation project, and I’ll ask Mia to send you back to school." Seeing her brother’s awkward expression reminded him of past events, Mary promptly steered him toward the exit.
But then she rembered the woman she t earlier and changed her tone, "Have you run into anyone lately?"
"Run into anyone?" Alfred asked, puzzled by his sister’s sudden change in tone.
"Nothing." Mary knew from his reaction that the woman probably hadn’t contacted her brother yet, so she replied casually, then urged Mia to send Alfred away.
Alfred felt wronged, "Sis, I haven’t had dinner yet."
He felt that ever since his sister got married, she paid less attention to him.
Mary paused, realizing she’d indeed forgotten about it, and awkwardly rubbed her nose, "What do you want to eat?"
"Anything, as long as it’s made by you." Alfred replied, full of grievance, looking pitiful like a puppy.
Seeing her brother like this, Mary had no temper left, "Alright, I’ll make you sothing..."
"Let’s have hot pot." Just as Mary was about to say she’d cook a feast for her brother, David suddenly chid in.
Mary turned around curiously, "You want hot pot?"
"Yeah." David replied casually, then went into the kitchen. A mont later, he stuck his head out, "There isn’t much, should we go to the supermarket?"
"Sure, together." Mary agreed readily.
Standing aside, Alfred was completely ignored, looking at his sister in disbelief. Wasn’t she supposed to cook for him? Why was she listening to David instead? He didn’t want hot pot, seriously!
Mia stood next to Alfred, giving him a sympathetic look, then gently nudged him, "Your sister and brother-in-law have a good relationship. Shouldn’t you be happy?"
"But... but... I’m too pitiful!" Alfred squeezed out this sentence after holding back for a long ti.
Mia laughed, "When you have a girlfriend, let her love you, eh?"
Alfred reluctantly nodded, "I guess I’ll try harder to et soone."
After discussing with David, Mary turned to her brother, "Are you two coming along?"
"I’m wounded, can I refuse?" Alfred dramatically clutched his chest.
Mary grabbed his arm, "An internal injury doesn’t count as a wound, co on."
David watched the siblings with amusent, then happily curled his lips and called Martin Jonah to give so instructions, before naturally walking beside Mary.
Mary glanced at him, "Did you tell Martin?"
"Yeah, we’ll get soone to snap a few pictures and post an article to clear things up." David received news from Martin as soon as Alfred ntioned the so-called report and knew what was going on. Suggesting a supermarket trip was also a way to clarify things indirectly.
Nowadays, the news about him and Mary was abundant, half true and half false. However, whenever it involved Mary, he just didn’t want her to feel wronged.
Alfred, listening in, roughly guessed what they were discussing, cast a sidelong glance at David, and thinking of his romantic history, sneered.
David, "..."
Mary saw David was stumped and chuckled, "You can’t entirely bla my brother; it’s your fault for being so flashy before."
David felt embarrassed, rubbing his nose, thinking about his reckless behavior back then. He didn’t defend himself, because what Mary said was kind of true. He was just glad that despite being reckless, he wasn’t completely without boundaries; otherwise, who knows how much he’d be disdained now.
Beside him, Alfred saw Mary finally standing up for him in front of David and imdiately bead with happiness. He thought, well then, hot pot it is, since both he and his sister love hot pot.
The four of them went to the neighborhood supermarket, and after a frenzy, the two n each carried big bags of items, while Mary and Mia carried lighter fruits.
Back at the villa, Mary took charge in the kitchen. Despite being a diocre cook, she was exceptional at making hot pot base. Soon, the kitchen was filled with the dominant aroma of hot pot, making everyone’s stomachs grumble, even David, who typically wasn’t a fan, was tempted this ti.
Since the script eting, David had been busy dealing with scandals, although he always appeared calm to Mary, the pressure from all sides was actually quite heavy on him, especially since "The Geisha" was stalled. If not handled properly, it would likely be shelved, and whether "The Doctors" could launch would also be problematic.
As a result, David hadn’t eaten properly for days, but usually when he was busy filming, he was in the sa state and didn’t feel anything. Yet at this mont, watching the busy figure in the kitchen and slling the enticing aroma, he suddenly felt really hungry.
A hunger that exploded both physiologically and psychologically at the sa ti.
Mary ca out and t David’s intense gaze, first surprised, then amused, "Are you that hungry?"
Although she said that, after putting down the pot, she instinctively stuffed a piece of cucumber into David’s mouth, then urged Alfred and Mia to quickly bring out the washed vegetables and sliced at.
This double standard treatnt had long numbed Alfred as he pulled Mia along to do the work.
Soon, the whole dining table was filled.
After Mary Scott’s press conference, they planned to have hot pot together, but due to a certain man’s domineering nature, Alfred and Mia were both driven away. Later, running into the Locke parents at ho, they didn’t eat well either, but now they made up for the regret of that ti.
Mary Scott ate herself while occasionally putting so at on David Locke’s plate, watching as the man started to sweat lightly at the tip of his nose from the spice, feeling quite pleased.
Usually, Alfred Scott, who never got along with David Locke, was so focused on eating that he forgot to be jealous, acting as if he was afraid others would snatch his food. Mia was silently eating hers, but her speed wasn’t slow either.
Soon, half the table’s dishes were gone, and Mary Scott occasionally added more dishes, making everyone eat even more joyfully.
But while they were eating happily, Martin Jonah wasn’t having such a good ti.
Upon receiving the so-called ’fan’ candid photos of David Locke and Mary Scott, Martin Jonah arranged PR to issue a statent, clarifying the previous misunderstanding of David Locke with other won or Mary Scott with other n watching movies.
Because Mary Scott had just posted a tweet supporting David Locke that morning, by afternoon there were rumors of Mary being seen with another man, then rumors of David eting with a fashionable girl during broad daylight, angering the few fans Mary had gathered last ti, who then turned their resentnt towards David Locke.
Many other bystanders also had a terrible impression of David Locke, resulting in Martin Jonah’s release clarifying the situation, making everyone realize there was no Mary Scott fooling around, but rather David was indeed dating a trendy girl, who turned out to be Mary herself.
This led many to realize that reporters were inherently unreliable, and adding to Mary Scott’s adamant defense, so asked for ti to reflect, leading many to question if they were led astray and misunderstood David Locke.
However, so were set in their ways, thinking David Locke was just a player, and with the news of him dating a fashionable girl in broad daylight, the clarification was surely forced by Mary Scott to clear his na. Conspiracy theories abounded, concluding that David was scum, their comnts more intense, not caring what the truth was.
Fortunately, apart from the ghostwriters, these people were in the minority, with most remaining rational and holding a wait-and-see stance towards David Locke’s situation.
But this did not sit well with those behind Lilian Saxton.
After Mary Scott and David Locke finished eating and drinking, seeing Alfred Scott and Mia Anderson off, David Locke’s phone vibrated again.
David glanced at it and answered, "Speak."
"Director Locke, sothing bad happened. That person nad Sun shared a video, you better take a look." Martin Jonah’s hands were trembling as he spoke.
David Locke frowned, his stomach comfortably full from the al, which improved his temper, but when he heard Martin’s words, he casually opened his phone. However, upon just opening the video from Lilian Saxton, David’s face froze, involuntarily wanting to hide the phone.
But his actions were too obvious, catching the attention of Mary Scott, who had just seen off Alfred and Mia. "What are you trying to hide?"
"No... nothing." David’s tongue twisted as he lied, making him appear quite guilty.
Having lied, David suddenly realized that the video was probably already spreading online. What was the use in hiding it now?
Seeing David’s reaction, Mary Scott beca even more suspicious, stepping forward swiftly and grabbing his hand. In the next instant, pressing herself against David, she surprised him and snatched the phone from behind his back, opening it without hesitation.
"Tsk tsk, small chest, thick waist, not enough curve, and Zhang chose you? If others are like you, how can they be used?" As soon as she opened it, she heard the familiar male voice, yet the tone was so harsh it was begging for a smack. The video was clearly secretly fild, unable to see what the two were doing, but from the cara angle, they seed very close, in a quite intimate setting, likely an elevator in a hotel.
Mary Scott’s mind buzzed, looking up to et David Locke’s eyes, filled with shock and hurt. She had given him a chance before, after all, it was in the past, but why did he have to lie to her even after doing such things?
David Locke clearly saw Mary Scott’s emotions, quickly stepping forward to explain, "Mary, listen to , I was saying those things, but we really didn’t do anything..."
"Just to play cards, you need a big chest, slim waist, and a butt lift? Dobbin Locke, do you think I’m an idiot?" Mary Scott tried hard to control her emotions, but as she spoke, her body couldn’t help but tremble.
She could accept his past reckless behavior, endure the jealousy and discomfort in her heart, but she couldn’t accept that he lied to her repeatedly, even after doing those things. What did he take her for?
"Moll, listen to , I did say those things, but I really didn’t do anything else..." David Locke, seeing Mary Scott’s emotions flare up, tried to reach out to hold her, only to have his hand slapped away by Mary.
David knew things were bad, but he didn’t want to give up, trying harder to get close to Mary, hoping she would calm down and listen. But having seen and heard with her own eyes and ears, Mary wasn’t her previous calm self. In their struggle, she slapped him hard across the face.
The slap was loud, leaving both of them stunned.
Mary Scott froze as well, seeing the five-finger mark reddening on David Locke’s face, her eyes brimming with tears, struggling not to cry, as she took big steps toward the stairs.
David Locke was familiar with Mary’s actions, knowing she was angry and about to leave. He grabbed her wrist tightly, "Don’t go!"
But Mary wasn’t swayed, stubbornly heading upstairs, wanting to leave there imdiately.
Seeing this, David realized this wasn’t a ti to talk sense to Mary. He could only grit his teeth, "You stay, I’ll leave."
"No need, this is your ho." Mary said bitterly.
David recalled how not long ago, this woman had said there was no ’yours and mine’ between them; his heart ached as though being wrung. He wished he could travel back in ti and slap his own loose mouth. Alas, he couldn’t, and could only take a deep breath to restrain the urge to hold her forcefully and say, "I transferred this house to your na two weeks ago, so this is your ho. If anyone leaves, it’s . You stay here, don’t run around while things are being sorted out. I’ll be back when it’s resolved."
"I don’t want..."
Mary never expected David to transfer the billion-dollar villa to her na so early, montarily stunned. But the next mont, she stubbornly said she didn’t want it. However, before she could finish, David had already turned to leave.
As she wanted to make it clear, David had already closed the door, leaving her inside.
Mary stood looking at the tightly closed villa door, eyes red with anger. She instinctively wanted to believe in him, but the video showed apparent evidence. Otherwise, David wouldn’t have subconsciously tried to hide it.
But even though she didn’t believe it, the video spread rapidly, erupting online.
Previously, Lilian Saxton’s suggestive tweet succeeded in pushing David Locke into the spotlight. Now, the video seems ant to ruin him!
In just a few short hours, the video played over a million tis, its spread showing no signs of slowing, on the verge of going viral.
This made Mary Scott’s previous supportive tweet for David seem like a joke, inviting ridicule from many gloating individuals.
But Mary sat dazed in the empty villa, her heart feeling hollow, with no mood to pay attention to the scoffer’s taunts, not even hearing the constant vibration of her phone, curling up on the sofa, wanting just to be quiet for a while.
Her mood had hit rock bottom seeing that woman earlier, but the arrival of David had filled her hollow heart. Now, with the lie exposed, she suddenly doesn’t know whether she should continue to believe or not...
