The bodyguard lived right downstairs, personally arranged by Madam Dongfang through coordination with the school principal.

This floor was occupied by girls whose families were fairly well-off, yet not many had bodyguards with them.

Aside from Dongfang Xuanya, there were only one or two others with bodyguards.

Their bodyguards, without exception, also resided downstairs.

Luckily, their accommodations were only on the second floor where it was unlikely for any danger to occur. Having the bodyguards live downstairs served more as a psychological comfort for the parents than anything else.

Inside the room.

Shi i held the alarm device in her hand, her eyes slightly deep, and she said faintly, "That person is almost certainly watching ."

Dongfang Xuanya perked up her ears and leaned in, "Why?"

"Intuition," Shi i had no intention of explaining, "After all, I am quite beautiful."

"Oh."

...

Bai Yuejie now could only lie in bed and inhale oxygen.

The slightest movent brought overwhelming discomfort, and she had vomited so often that eventually, Bai Yuejie couldn’t even bring up stomach acid anymore.

Within a few short days, her body had turned pale to the point of turning blue, her skin was sagging, her cheeks hollow, and even her eye sockets had sunken deeply, making her look emaciated, skin and bones.

Bai Yuejie had never been in such a state before.

The excruciating pain in her body, as if it would take her frail life away in the next mont.

But she didn’t want to die!

She hadn’t yet beco a successful career woman, she hadn’t experienced what was called love, she hadn’t surpassed Tang Wu in any aspect. Why should she die, why should the heavens let her die!

Bai Yuejie felt that the world was incredibly unfair.

It should be Tang Wu who ought to die, it should be the Senior Sister!

Why should they shine so brightly one after another, while she could only lie in a hospital bed, unable to move, breathing through an oxygen bed? It was too unfair!

Bai Yuejie gasped for air, her breath faint as a wisp of silk.

Her breathing beca increasingly difficult, her entire body seed to lose all sensation, leaving only boundless pain.

Bai Yuejie felt as if she were moaning, or perhaps no sound was coming out at all, her body powerless, without even the strength to lift her limbs.

"Yuejie," a gentle voice ca, filled with pity, "Don’t be afraid, Daddy is here."

Bai Yuejie struggled to lift her eyelids and imdiately saw the old man who had accompanied her for many years.

Uncle Liu was even a year or two younger than Bai Zhengyuan, but with the wrinkles on his face and the white hair on his head, he looked like soone in his fifties or sixties.

Bai Yuejie’s senses were numb, completely unaware that tears had already started streaming down, layer upon layer, and even the mattress underneath her had soaked through without her knowledge.

She looked at Uncle Liu with difficulty and struggled to call out, "Dad..."

Uncle Liu, tears streaming down his face, stood beside Bai Yuejie, weeping uncontrollably, "Daddy’s here, Daddy’s here..."

Bai Yuejie opened her mouth, and instantly the oxygen mask fogged up. Her voice was hoarse as if sand was grating back and forth, very unpleasant, faint as a whisper, soft as a mosquito’s buzz, "I... don’t... want... to... die..."

Uncle Liu took out a tissue to wipe her tears, consoling her gently, "I won’t let you die, my good daughter. I couldn’t keep your mother, but I must keep you. Rest assured, Daddy will save you."

Bai Yuejie’s eyes had already yellowed, her pupils dim and lusterless.
