Zhao Siyan elegantly held her coffee cup, watching the once close friend she hadn’t seen for ages, her face always adorned with a polite yet distant smile.

ng Yue used to understand her so well, so how could she not see the obvious gap between Zhao Siyan and herself at this mont?

A sour feeling welled up in ng Yue’s chest.

For all these years, she had lived in a state of guilt.

She tried to numb herself by doing charity and praying to Buddha, but she also knew that so people, once dead, are just gone.

No one has the power to bring back to life those who have passed away.

"These years..." ng Yue tried to find a topic of conversation, looking at this once intimate confidante, "How have you been? You really have beco more and more beautiful."

Zhao Siyan’s lips curled into a light laugh, "Alright, just getting by, but you, you seem to have been having a tough ti lately?"

ng Yue grew more embarrassed.

Given how big the matter had recently blown up, ng Yue knew it was probably common knowledge by now.

But then, Zhao Siyan had purposely asked this way; she must have... wanted to see her own debacle.

Thinking of this, ng Yue felt a great discomfort in her heart and said, "Yuan’er..."

"Hello, here’s your latte." The waiter set down the coffee, followed by a cake, "Tiramisu."

Zhao Siyan maintained her graceful smile, "Thank you."

The waiter gave a smile then glanced at ng Yue before turning and walking away.

ng Yue kept her head down the entire ti, staring at the cup of coffee in front of her, feeling even more wretched and downcast.

A sting at the tip of her nose, and tears began to fall from ng Yue’s eyes.

Zhao Siyan acted as if she did not see, picking up a small fork to one side, she scooped a mouthful of tiramisu, "This shop is one I invested in a few years ago. The flavor is from the first shop I tasted in Australia during my travels; it’s really delicious, so I went and spied internally for over a month. At last, I managed to steal a few of their signature pastries—try it."

ng Yue’s throat tightened even more.

What a beautiful life.

Back when they were young, they had made such a pact.

Once the kids were grown, they would retire, find a peaceful city, open a coffee shop, spend ti sipping coffee, tasting desserts, and when bored, they could et up for trips, traveling around the world.

Eventually, her life was entirely consud by work and family, every day preoccupied with how to lessen her husband’s burdens just a little, how to make her daughter a tad happier, how to do good and accumulate virtue, earning a favorable reputation to pave the way for her husband and daughter.

In truth, she had achieved this.

But it was a far cry from the life she had originally wanted.

When had the distance between her and Zhao Siyan beco so insurmountable?

Zhao Siyan leisurely ate her dessert, her voice calm, "I know you’ve been having a hard ti lately. You look older than the last ti I saw you on TV."

ng Yue did not expect such direct harshness, feeling even more in utter disarray.

Zhao Siyan continued, "Understandably, anyone would collapse upon discovering that the daughter they had poured all their heart into raising was not their own flesh and blood."

ng Yue couldn’t hold back any longer, her tears falling swiftly, "What are you trying to say?"

"What can I say," Zhao Siyan sounded as if she heard sothing inevitable, looking at ng Yue as if she were dealing with an unreasonably demanding child, "I’m just, feeling sorry for you, that’s all."
