The relationship between Lennox and his mother imdiately turned bad when he found out he was Harvey Qin’s son. Feeling betrayed and deceived, he refused to speak with or et her in person.
Lennox couldn’t fathom having a connection with soone who had kept such a crucial secret from him. The revelation shattered his trust in his mother, causing a deep rift between them that seed irreparable.
"So, he’s still alive?" Abigail looked relieved and worried at the sa ti.
This was the umpteenth ti she visited her son’s ho in Jinxiu Garden, but Lennox still refused to see or talk to her. She was aware that her choice to keep his birth father’s identity a secret had hurt her son, but she didn’t have an option at the ti.
Adrienne looked at her mother-in-law with sympathy. She wasn’t saying what Abigail had done was right, but she also knew how complicated it was to make difficult decisions in the past. Adrienne understood that Abigail had made a choice based on what she believed was best for her son, even though it had caused a deep rift between them. She hoped that, with ti and patience, they could eventually repair their relationship.
"I only heard the news from Butler Cheng. It was he who told to convince Lennox to et his uncle. I should have inford you beforehand. I would have never thought..."
Adrienne’s words trailed off, rembering the pain on her husband’s face when he found out the truth.
Abigail sighed and shook her head. Despite her son’s cold treatnt of her, she was glad that at least Adrienne was giving her so face by eting her on each visit she made. Adrienne brought her to her study, wanting to talk with her in private.
"Don’t bla yourself, Addie. You did your best for Lennox, and that’s enough for . I don’t bla you for anything. In fact, I want to thank you for being there for him when I couldn’t. Lennox must hate now. I didn’t want him to know it like this."
"Is it true then? That Harvey Qin is his real father?" Adrienne didn’t beat around the bush and questioned her mother-in-law.
Abigail gave her a weak smile.
"I wouldn’t have married Richard Qin if I knew I was pregnant with Harvey’s child. It was a mistake that I’ve regretted every day since. But Lennox deserves to know the truth, no matter how painful it may be."
Abigail felt mixed emotions but knew honesty was the only way forward.
"I would have fought tooth and nail to break my engagent with Richard, putting everything at stake, if I had known. I never wanted to marry him anyway, but my father insisted I should proceed with the marriage, or else he would disown as his daughter. At that ti, my elder brother was still alive, and he succeeded in running Stardia, so my only purpose for the family was to marry soone and build a connection with their family."
She lifted her gaze and looked at her daughter-in-law’s beautiful face. Abigail had heard comntaries around Stardia on how devastatingly beautiful her daughter-in-law was and how pitiful it was that she didn’t want to pursue a career in showbiz or modeling. She had to agree with them, though. Adrienne Jiang’s face was more than just beautiful; it was captivating, with alluring features and an aura of grace that seed to radiate from within.
"You don’t have to explain anything to , Mom." Adrienne replied, "Whoever Lennox’s father is, it won’t change the fact that you love him more than anything else. He is your son, and nothing can change that."
She also understood that most affluent families had backward beliefs back then and only thought a son could succeed in their family business, disregarding that their daughters might be more competent than the sons they spoiled rotten.
Abigail smiled, but a few tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Thank you, Addie, but allow this woman to pour her heart out for a mont," Abigail said, wiping away her tears. "I’ve kept this secret for so long, and I didn’t have anyone to discuss it until you."
Adrienne’s eyes softened upon hearing her mother-in-law’s words. She was glad to be here and to know that Abigail had high regard for her and that she wasn’t just a young daughter-in-law that his son suddenly decided to marry.
"It must have been hard for you, Mom. From what I heard, Richard Qin seed to be a terrible person. He put my father on a pedestal when it ca to pettiness and cruelty. I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been for you to endure all those years." She told Abigail.
"Richard wasn’t just arrogant. He was arrogant because he could confidently back it up with his performance. He was the smartest of the five children of the Qin family and excelled at so many things. But he beca obsessed with from the very first ti we t. He approved of our engagent and bragged about it to his colleagues."
"I hadn’t t Harvey yet at that ti, but I had heard things about him. People say he was eccentric, disliked social functions, and was mostly seen with his clothes sared with oil and paint. I got a minor in arts and was used to work as a curator and an art director for a gallery when I t him for the first ti. I didn’t know he was Richard’s younger brother because Harvey used an alias for his work. We beca friends, and I found myself drawn to him. We occasionally t at the gallery and discussed so many things about what he plans to do in the future.""
Abigail’s expression slightly shifted as she recalled the first encounter with Harvey. Despite his reputation, she was drawn to his enigmatic personality and unique perspective on art. Little did she know that their eting would mark the beginning of a tragic future waiting for her and their son.
