Glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice filled the table. The sll of freshly brewed coffee filled the air while sweet vanilla-scented pancakes graced the table. However, Adrienne didn’t have an appetite to eat anything. She even had to cancel her appointnts throughout the day, knowing she couldn’t focus at work. Myrtle was kind enough to reschedule her important etings and commitnts for the next few days as they awaited news about their friend’s safety.
"Is there sothing you aren’t telling , Addie?" Lennox couldn’t help but ask, "Did sothing bad happen to Valerie in the past that causes you to worry this much?"
Adrienne bit her lip and nodded. She then proceeded to tell her husband of Valerie’s tragic fate in her previous life, from Airi’s sche up to Valerie’s execution for murdering her husband and younger sister. It was hard for Adrienne not to worry about Valerie, knowing Airi held so grudges against her and the Xia family.
"I did what I did for Val to see what kind of person Airi is, but what if I couldn’t change anything and Valerie would still end up dead?" Adrienne rested her forehead on her hands. "I don’t want that, Len. Val didn’t deserve that kind of fate. It feels like heaven is taunting , reminding that I’m still the powerless and foolish person I was. I realize it is impossible to alter the situation and save everyone, but I do not wish to lose another loved one, Len. I’m afraid that I might lose you too."
Lennox opened his mouth but found himself speechless. He was reminded of what his end was in Adrienne’s previous life. She said he passed away at the age of 38. He never thought Adrienne was worrying about it, too. She rarely had nightmares at night and thought she was completely free from the bitterness and heartaches she suffered in her past life.
He took her hands in his and gave her a gentle squeeze. Seeing her like this made his heart ache.
"Addie, I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere. You won’t lose . We can’t change the past, but we can make the most of our ti together now. We can’t control everything, but we can control how we live our lives. We can take care of ourselves and our loved ones and trust that whatever cos our way, we will face it together."
Adrienne looked up at him, tears welling in her eyes.
"I know, Len. I just can’t help but feel scared sotis. The thought of losing soone I love again is too much to bear."
Lennox wiped away her tears with his thumb. "Don’t let your fear stop you from seeing what you have now, Addie. You aren’t alone anymore. You aren’t a prisoner of Alistair; your mother regained her consciousness because you didn’t give up, Addie. And as for Valerie, we have to trust that she’ll be found and that she’ll be safe. We can’t let fear consu us. We have to have faith and hope for the best."
Adrienne nodded, tears streaming down her face. She knew that Lennox was right, but staying positive in a situation like this was hard. She wiped her tears away and took a deep breath. She nodded her head, feeling a sense of determination wash over her.
"You’re right, Len. Thank you for reminding to have faith."
"You’re right, Len. We’ll find her and bring her back ho." She wiped away her tears and took a deep breath. "I won’t let Airi win, not this ti."
Lennox squeezed her hand, a small smile forming on his lips. "That’s the spirit, Addie. We’ll show her that we’re not to be ssed with."
They finished their breakfast in silence, lost in their own thoughts. They both knew that the next few days would be crucial in finding Valerie and that they had to stay strong for each other. As they cleaned up the dishes, Adrienne’s phone rang. She quickly answered it, hoping it was news about Valerie’s whereabouts.
"Addie, it’s . We found sothing that might lead us to Valerie."
Katherine Shen’s voice was on the other end of the line, and Adrienne’s heart skipped a beat with anticipation.
"What did you find, Kat? Is Val okay?" Adrienne asked, her voice trembling with hope and fear.
"We found a location where Val could potentially be held captive."
"What?" Adrienne gasped, "So Val was really abducted by soone?"
"Yes," Katherine replied. "Uncle Shark told us soone spotted Airi and her uncle nearby. Your Uncle Reese and my father sent people to check the area. However, we cannot proceed to infiltrate the area as the place is under surveillance by the military and police because of human trafficking."
"Can’t you speak to them to cooperate?" Adrienne asked, her mind racing with ideas. "I can use my connections to get us through, and we can search the area ourselves."
"I don’t think that’s a good idea," Katherine responded, hesitating. "It’s risky, Addie. We could get caught and put ourselves in danger."
Adrienne clenched her fists, feeling a surge of frustration. She couldn’t just sit still and wait for soone else to take action.
"There must be sothing we could do for Val," she said in frustration.
Katherine’s voice sounded faint as she spoke to soone on her end. When she returned to Adrienne, she said, "I think you can do sothing, Addie. I heard from my brother that the troop leader working with the police is Hunter Nian, your brother. Since he’d already seen Valerie, confirming if she were being kept in that place would be easy."
Adrienne’s eyes widened. She knew her brother was away on a mission, and she never asked him the details of his work as they were confidential.
"Give him a call, Addie. We’ll try to check the ports and nearby establishnts in the anti." Katherine said.
"Thank you, Kat. You have no idea how much this ans to ."
"Of course, Addie. Valerie is our friend, and we won’t hurt her. We’ll keep you updated with any news we find."
"Please do. And thank you again," Adrienne said before hanging up.
Now, she had to call her older brother to ask him a great favor.
