Myrtle was stunned to hear this revelation from Adrienne. It made sense to her why Gavin’s eyes would turn lifeless whenever he saw a pair of mother and son walking hand in hand outside the cafe where she used to work. Initially, she thought Gavin must be missing his mother, but she never thought it was this serious.
Her face turned pale as she realized what kind of life Gavin had led for the past years. Myrtle couldn’t imagine the pain he’d been through when he found out about his mother’s death. No wonder Gavin was actively helping Lennox care for his half-siblings because he could understand the pain of being alone with no one to rely on.
"I won’t tell you the rest of the details, Myrtle, but I do not want you to misunderstand Gavin if he refuses to talk about the Si family and his mother. I’m not telling you this out of pity for him, but because I care about you and Gavin." Adrienne continued. It would be better to pretend they were unaware of Gavin’s past and treat him well.
Myrtle fell silent. It was a good thing she had yet to ask Gavin about his family as she was starting to get curious about them recently. She realized it would be best to consider Adrienne’s request and not pry into Gavin’s personal life. Myrtle knew that sotis it was better to let people share their stories when ready rather than forcing them to relive painful mories.
"I have no idea..." Her heart ached for Gavin. She couldn’t imagine the pain he must have endured and didn’t want to add to it by prying into his past.
"Each of us has a secret of our own, Myrtle. It’s just a matter of ti before they feel comfortable enough to share it," Adrienne said, understanding Myrtle’s hesitation.
Even though it took her a long ti to open up to Lennox, she confessed her secrets to him. Adrienne would surely be devastated if Lennox deed her a crazy woman and didn’t believe her words.
"As for your relationship with Gavin, I’m not upset, Myrtle. You accepted Lennox and didn’t make it difficult for us, so how can I not support you?" Adrienne smiled and pinched her best friend’s cheek, earning a smile from Myrtle.
Myrtle had been worried about Adrienne getting involved with Lennox, but she eventually see how Lennox adored her best friend, which led to Myrtle approving of their relationship.
"But Addie, what do you plan to do with Alistair? Mom has been asking how you are doing these days. She was worried that she might do sothing to you and Lennox now that he knew you were married." Myrtle asked worriedly.
"Don’t worry about it, Myrtle. Lennox and I were prepared for his retaliation. I know he would try to cause trouble in Huayi, but Gavin has already taken so precautionary asures." Adrienne answered but was also aware of the possibility of Alistair focusing on her instead. She didn’t tell Myrtle this because she knew it would only make her best friend more anxious than she already was.

Adrienne decided to limit going out in public until Alistair and Ayla were married. She knew Alistair could not go against his grandmother’s wishes for him to marry her cousin. However, it didn’t an his obsession with her would cease once he married Ayla.
The news of Ayla’s pregnancy had yet to be announced, but the matriarch of the Han family wanted her to join the family as soon as possible. Adrienne had been pressured by Alistair’s grandmother to conceive a child for the family for years, but that didn’t happen. The old woman must have been pleased when she died, with Ayla bearing the heir of the Han family.
Adrienne and Lennox had recently agreed that it would be best for her to stay at ho, only going out when necessary. She didn’t want to attract any unwanted attention from Alistair, especially since he had made it clear that he would stop at nothing to have her.
Myrtle felt relief wash over her. She was glad her best friend took precautions to protect herself and her family. Myrtle knew that Adrienne was strong and capable of handling any situation that ca her way, but she still worried about her safety. After all, not only did Adrienne need to be wary of Alistair but also the Jiang family.
"You have a eting at Jiang Corporation tomorrow afternoon. Are you sure you want to attend, Addie?" She asked. As Adrienne’s personal assistant, Myrtle had to ensure that Adrienne’s schedule was safe and secure. She knew the risks involved in attending the eting, especially with the tension between Adrienne and the Jiang family.
The new CEO of Jiang Corporation had recently arrived in Chiangshi, and they were supposed to et him. The Jiang family had no idea that Kristoff Fu was one of Lenox’s people, and they planned to use his position to gain an advantage over the Si family. She was able to connect with Kristoff Fu with Lennox’s help.
Kristoff was one of Lennox’s acquaintances, and it was through Lennox’s recomndation that she could establish a connection with him. Adrienne didn’t think Kristoff threatened her, and she believed he could be a valuable ally in her plan to outmaneuver the Jiang family.
During the eting, the Jiang family would try to establish their dominance and assert their power over the company. Her father assud he was still in charge despite having Kristoff Fu on board.
It didn’t matter if she owned a significant share because she didn’t have the grasp of absolute control within the company. Most of the shareholders and mbers of the board had long been acquainted with Lewis Jiang, and it would be challenging to persuade those old n to take Adrienne’s side.
Adrienne had already expected sothing like this to happen and was prepared for it. Her father thought he could save the company, but Adrienne planned to ruin it for good. False hope was one of the most vicious things one could do to their enemy, and Adrienne would make sure it wouldn’t backfire on her.
"I have to go, Myrtle. If I don’t show up, my father would think I’m afraid of them. Besides, I have taken the necessary precautions to ensure my safety," Adrienne replied, reassuring her best friend.
Myrtle nodded, trusting Adrienne’s judgnt. She was hesitant to confirm Adrienne’s attendance during her phone call with a staff mber of Lewis Jiang earlier.
"Okay, just be careful, Addie."
