Lin stood, stupefied. He stared at Jun unblinkingly, trying to process the situation before him. The situation in question was very easy to understand but he still held questions.
"S-Sir..."
Ai chirped and brought a gift box before him. "Happy birthday!"
He stared at the gift box, long and hard.
"That’s for you to open it, Lin. Also, don’t call Sir. You are not my employee anymore."
Jun looked around with a smile. "You are now the owner of a successful cafe. You are a Boss yourself now."
"Wh-Why..."
Lin hadn’t really expected for Jun to be here. If he was honest with himself, then he hadn’t expected for him to even rember his birthday - not the birthday of the employee who betrayed him.
"What do you an why? It’s your birthday. Of course, it must be celebrated. I rember you never used to tell people that it was your birthday when you were working in Sky."
Just then, Cai ca in whistling too but froze upon seeing the party in the cafe.
"B-Bro...?"
He quickly walked up to him, cautious and uncertain.
Why are they here?
His gaze fell at Alix and he stiffened. For a long ti, he wasn’t aware of her truth and Lin had kept it that way for a long ti. The past and the miracles were too complicated to explain. But it was one day when Lin understood how Cai truly missed Yahui. He never expressed it in front of him, but Lin had seen him staring at their childhood pictures with Yahui with misty eyes.
It was then that Lin had realized the error in his ways. For the past six years, Lin was in prison while Yahui had passed away. Cai was truly left all alone. How would he have spent those days all by himself to see that two most precious people in his life were gone?
After much contemplation, Lin decided to tell Cai everything. He deserved to know that Yahui was alive as much as he himself did. It was unfair to keep him in the dark and so he told him.
As expected, Cai was at a complete loss for words, but he also knew that Lin wouldn’t joke about sothing like this, not about Yahui at any cost. And today was the first ti he was coming face to face with her but with a new face. He had seen Alix hop by a custor many tis, but today, he was seeing her in the light of being Zhan Yahui.
Though he felt his heart drumming in his chest, he had more pressing matters to concentrate on at the mont, and that was the Liu family’s presence.
Everything was peaceful until now so why is everyone here all of a sudden?
Ai pouted at Jun. "You are scaring him."
"What did I do?" Jun was dumbfounded. "I just wished Lin a Happy Birthday, that’s all."
"Happy birthday?" Cai blinked.
"Yes. What did you think?"
He coughed and looked away. "Nothing. I was just surprised, that’s all..."
He then glanced at Lin, whose hands were shaking as he held Jun’s gift.
"Lin, I think you should sit down. I feel you will collapse at this rate," Shui’s brow twitched.
"Too sentintal as usual," Alix clicked her tongue.
Jin knitted his brows. "We are going to have a grand birthday celebration for you too when it is the day. You cannot escape."
Alix looked at him and tried to imagine the day. Up until now, all her birthdays were quite grey and dry. Only Cai and Guiying would take the effort of making it a celebration, but even then, she used to hardly celebrate. The thought of her birthday celebration with her new life and new family brought strange jitters in her heart.
Ai sat on one chair, beaming and shining. As she noticed Shui’s despondent expression, she asked, "What happened to you?"
"I didn’t know it was Lin’s birthday. I didn’t even prepare a gift for him...He had helped a lot ever since Mr. Zhong’s situation of wanting to buy Blooming, and I don’t have anything ready with ."
Alix’s ears peeked up. "Mr. Zhong’s situation? What’s that?"
"Lin!"
The cafe’s door opened with a blast and a booming voice resounded across the walls. Shui almost jumped up in her seat and turned toward the entrance, only to find Zhong Sihan at the door.
Oh dear...
"Happy birthday, my boy!"
Zhong Sihan blatantly ignored everybody’s presence and dashed straight to Lin, pulling him into a tight hug.
"Hah! Did you see how I didn’t forget your birthday? I hope you have grown a little older and wiser now to make the right decision!" He proudly smirked.
The Lius’ stared at his zest, speechless.
"Mr. Zhong. Thank you for your wishes," he bowed.
He waved his hand in dismissal. "Don’t thank for it. I want you to agree to beco my grandson!"
*Cough cough!*
Alix choked in her throat and Jin literally had to pat her back to stop her from coughing. Seeing how Zhong Sihan’s words caused it, he glared at him. "What do you think you are doing?"
Zhong Sihan finally bothered to look their way and tilted his head. "Aren’t you the Liu boys? What brought you here?"
Jun could barely register the words. "...What did you just say earlier?"
"What did I say?"
"Sothing along the lines of adopting Lin?"
"Oh, yes. He will be my grandson but this fool is not agreeing to the formal procedures! So I thought that his birth might have made him a little bit wiser."
Shui grimaced.
Why are all his thoughts...so eccentric?
Even Jin was staring at him like he was saying sothing unbelievable. He looked at Lin next, trying to make sense of this situation. Alix’s state of mind was even worse.
"I think...aren’t you a little too late to...adopt?" She weighed her words. "He is...past that age..."
"Is there an age limit I don’t know about where I cannot add him in my family registry?" Zhong Sihan frowned. "Then I need to check it because I will have to bypass it sohow. Bleh," he shrugged. "What’s impossible for Zhong Sihan anyway?"
At that mont, Jun, Ai, Jin and Alix - all four unanimously cast a blank gaze toward Lin.
What the hell is happening here?
