The last few weeks, for Vijay, have been a literal nightmare.

The sense of death constantly lood over his head and he did not even know where the threat was coming from, was it from a war, was it from an invasion, was it from a disaster, he did not know, was it preventable, he did not know that either, but now after reading the report he received from the Balkans he finally understood.

It was an epidemic.

Thankfully, when the Bharatiya External Pragya matured as an intelligence organisation, more protocols were added, and the protocol about how to handle a plague outbreak was one of them, so the agents on the field isolated themselves in order to stay in the clear and only fed the information through the Firework communication system.

After knowing the reason for his restlessness and his screaming intuition, Vijay felt relieved, not because the infectious disease was not dangerous, far from it, among the pecking order of things that could send humanity to extinction a contagious disease is one among them, and it’s high in the order as well, but he thought he was about to encounter sothing far more devastating, like a natural disaster that appears once in a lifeti or sothing similar sending them all to oblivion. Compared to that, an infectious disease is a pittance, since it can still be isolated and avoided with so preparation.

’ Moroi’s Fiend, huh? ’ He stroked his chin in thought.

’ It should be caused by a germ that has mutated due to the rotting bodies that were not disposed of properly, not to ntion the subpar hygiene conditions in Transylvania. ’

’ Those Russians did not even bother to burn all the bodies after the war; instead, they simply buried them in piles. ’

’ I rember the reason for their action was that they did not want to waste the expensive whale oil to light up the fire in such a cold environnt. ’

’ But now didn’t those hypocrites still empty their coffers and use all ans to light up the whole Transylvanian main settlent on fire along with the barracks in the outskirts? ’

’Tsk’

’ I should have insisted and warned them of sothing similar from happening, ’ but Vijay could not be blad. Russia is neither a subordinate nor a partner who likes to take orders. Maybe if Vijay allocated the Russians so petroleum resources, they would follow his suggestions, but honestly speaking, he did not want to use the resources of the Bharatiya Empire for nothing.

’ Ultimately, the germ affected by an incomprehensible number of factors should have developed a cold-resistant characteristic. Or else why would the outbreak be at the end of the winter? Co to think of it....this year’s winter in Eastern Europe is also weaker than the previous years. Was it the right condition for the mutation to appear? ’

’ Anyway, the main point is, if this is simply a plague outbreak in Eastern Europe, I wouldn’t need to be worried since germs evolved to fit a certain environnt will not thrive in other environnts. But since I am getting the threat of death, that ans this germ is sowhat special.’

After analysing the situation, he quickly ca up with a few counterasures. Vijay didn’t hesitate and gave out a series of orders.

" According to the report, the disease has already reached the Ottoman Empire, so it is perceivable that there is a high chance that it will reach Lalishsthan very soon."

" So quickly inform Lalishsthan as well as the Kingdom of Persia and warn them of the dangers of the upcoming plague."

" Also, from the Ottoman Empire, bring back any newly deceased person’s corpse, but take precautions, since the disease is spreading so quickly, it is perceivable that the disease could spread through multiple ans. While going on the hunt for the sample, avoid contact with anyone, avoid any kind of fluids from the region of the disease, avoid breathing in the air directly, cover your mouth and nose with a mask drenched in an Ayurvedic antiseptic concoction and avoid skin contact as well."

Vijay wanted to know the characteristics of the disease and, if possible, the germs to understand what he is dealing with, so he is ready to conduct full-on research on what is happening.

The agents quickly understood what they had to do and left.

anwhile, Vijay summoned Lokesh, the Minister of Health, and gave him a series of orders.

" Lokesh, there is a contagious disease spreading all over Eastern Europe, and it’s spreading quickly into the Ottoman Empire. There’s a possibility it could spread to the Middle East, and God forbid, to us, so I need you to be prepared in advance."

" First, conduct safety and hygiene drills across the northern part of the empire. I’ll allow you to use the resources of the Ergency and Disaster Managent Bureau for this."

" Second, quickly assemble teams of dical professionals throughout the northern regions, capable of providing support at a mont’s notice. Also, create isolation camps where the infected can be confined."

" Third, act as an advisor to the military logistics departnt, since I will instruct them to deliver necessary dical supplies wherever required."

" Lastly, if the disease reaches the mainland, I want you to take command of all doctors and dical professionals across the empire, and form a unified body with rapid communication and mobilisation capabilities."

---

The thoughts are beautiful, but reality is bleak.

Only a few weeks after Vijay gave out his orders, reports of Moroi’s Fiend began to appear in large numbers in Lalishthhan, in considerable numbers in the Kingdom of Persia, and to his dread, in small numbers in the direct control territory of Kalsa Nagari.

" Why is it spreading so quickly? " Vijay could not understand. This plague seed to be much more deadly than he had ever expected.

No wonder his senses were still telling him that his life was still in danger, with the intensity only reduced a little despite taking the precautions.

Vijay did not hesitate and resolutely acted. " From this very mont, I am declaring national ergency, and all resources will be brought under my control."

This was only the third ti in the empire’s history since the Mughals’ end that the ergency was declared, but it was the first ti that it was declared for a plague. Both tis previously were solely so that the purge could be done and all the corrupt politicians, businessn, policen, military officers, and foreign spies could be removed as efficiently as possible, but never for a hazardous reason.

All the ministers kept writing their notes as the voice of Vijay reverberated throughout the conference room

" Set up customs at the border of Khalsa Nagari and do not allow anyone to enter or exit the border without fully testing them for the symptoms of the disease. Everyone, no matter the rank, is required to stay in an isolated location for at least four to five days and show no signs of disease until they can be allowed to enter or exit. "

"Gangadhar, imdiately mobilise the military and set up isolation camps inside Kalsa Nagari. Isolate the villages, cities, and people who have been affected. A dical team has already been ford under Minister Lokesh. Consult with him on anything related to handling the deceased. And if anyone is seen causing trouble, eliminate them on the spot."

" Under no circumstance should this disease co into our land. "

" Dismissed! "

After ending the ergency cabinet eting, Vijay travelled to the outskirts of the capital where a specin had been brought.

If there was a silver lining in all the ordeal, it was that the intelligence agents did not have to go far to get the diseased body; a case had already appeared in Kalsa Nagari.

Entering the laboratory, Vijay saw several top dical experts engaged in serious conversation. Among them was Nithya Varma, not only the first female dical personnel in the Bharatiya military to achieve the rank of Chief dical Officer, but also one of the brightest dical minds in the empire. There was also Dr. Vinay, the leading dical researcher and the head of the Departnt of dicine at the Bharatiya Academy of Civilian Sciences.

Vijay recognised several others as well, famous doctors, directors of Bharatiya dical colleges, and even so of their students, all gathered under one roof.

Vijay even saw his daughter Tanvika in the crowd, which made him frown, but thinking about the body which had been transported by being put in a wooden container filled with ice and salt, he did not deny her participating in the research. After all, she did outrank everyone in her class and stood out for having exceptional talent for dicine.

First things first, everyone was made to dress up in the hazmat suit. This was still a prototype since all the materials to make the actual hazmat suit of the future, which could contain the greatest of diseases, could not be found, but still it provides excellent protection against contagious diseases in this day and age.

The wooden crate was pulled open, the salt and ice were pushed away, and the body of a young man aged 20 to 24 appeared before everyone’s eyes.

The person did not look to have died in easy circumstances, as the expression before his death froze on his face and looked grueso and horrible, but everyone in the room was not an ordinary person; they were the best dical talents the empire had to offer, so they did not even frown and quickly got to work.
