"You got what you’ve always wanted. Revenge. I think that’s enough." Kingsley’s voice flooded into her thoughts, ssing with them until they were disoriented.
Jasmine raised her eyes to et his. Grateful?? Relieved?? Maybe but the sparks were not there.
She had always dreamt of this day. The day she’ll finally get her revenge and see Jack’s empire fall....she had imagined the different scenarios. But now that it happened—she felt neither of the things she had thought.
Inside, it felt like it was just another unfortunate incident that happened to soone she disliked. The sparks were gone and the burning fire was turned off.
Maybe because that wasn’t what she wanted anymore. Along the way, she went astray and fell in love instead. And the love overca her thirst for revenge. It had subdued it.
"Kingsley...." Jasmine shook her head.
Kingsley cut in on her words. Unable to continue with his cold facade...he found it hard to be harsh to this woman who held his heart. He just wanted to leave her face. "I’ll give you ti to think about this." With that, he turned around to leave but Jasmine stood up, wanting to rush after him.
Kingsley paused close to the door. Of course, he heard her stand up from her chair and made to run after him. Or to hug him from behind—maybe, just maybe that would be his ticket to drop all of his revenge plans and scatter all of those thoughts to leave her. But that warmth never ca.
Jasmine paused instead, watching him. She was done loving soone willing to leave her behind...if he loved her enough, he would turn around and fucking co to her so they could sort out whatever this was.
In her relationship with Jack, she was always the one willing to worry, sort out misunderstandings, and be the bigger person. This ti around—-She won’t be the only one fixing things. She deserved better too and if Kingsley wasn’t willing to have her, then....all good.
But to her disappointnt, he only stiffened close to the door and gave her a side look as if waiting for sothing to happen. But after a while, his shoulder slumped slightly and he opened the door and...he left.
He left. He didn’t turn his back to give her a last look. Not even a single glance.
Jasmine choked on her saliva. Willing her tears to stay at bay and not roll down. The pressure building in her eyes was becoming worse and it started to burn. Jasmine gripped the table, the divorce papers ca into her view and that was enough for the burning sensation to spill out. Her tears slid down her cheek and then, another followed.
Kingsley wanted a divorce. After everything—-
Jasmine slumped on her chair, her tears rolling down nonstop until she got exhausted.
Hadn’t been just a contract marriage to him?? His feelings never changed??
Just then, her phone started to ring, and Jasmine weakly grabbed it. Her cheeks had successfully turned bright red and her eyes were wet.
It was Nicole calling.
Jasmine tapped on the green button to answer the call. "Hello." Her voice was cranky, giving away her emotions.
"Jasmine, did you see the news??? Jack is ruined!! His dirty laundry was leaked to the public and also..." Nicole rambled on and on, the words barely registering in Jasmine’s head. "And your father cut ties with his company. That’s the cherry on top of the cake!"
Nicole grunted. "He is a bastard and I’m glad he finally got what he deserved! Gosh."
Jasmine pressed her lips together. Her voice ca out in bites. "I saw it too." Her weak voice ca out.
Nicole frowned slightly. Finally taking note of the weird tone. "You don’t sound happy. Did sothing happen?? It is about Mr Elm??"
Hearing his na again, Jasmine smiled bitterly. "He just handed a divorce paper minutes ago—"
"What??" Nicole was shocked. "What the fuck?? I thought it was just so lover’s quarrel and he is bad at communicating about it!"
Jasmine smiled weakly. She did nothing wrong and before his sudden change of behavior, they had been on good terms. Her mind wandered to Vanessa. "Maybe—he wants to get back with his Ex-fiancée." A cold feeling crept into her chest, twisting her stomach into knots. She suddenly felt sick.
"What the actual fuck??" Nicole couldn’t help but blunt out more curses. "It never beat that Mr Elm could be a prick!"
Jasmine remained silent. Nicole continued. "Did you sign the papers??"
Jasmine’s eyes landed on the file again and she let out a pain squeal. "I will have to eventually. He doesn’t want —I can’t force it."
"I know that. But before then, we need to sue his ass."
Jasmine laughed a little."I don’t want that."
Nicole breathed. "He can’t just treat you like this girl! You’re a full option, he can’t just get rid of you without going through so major pain!"
Jasmine leaned back on the chair, so exhausted as she massaged her forehead. "Can we not talk about this for now?? I’m exhausted and..." she couldn’t describe her emotions anymore. She was Short of words.
Nicole sighed. "Fine. You should co over to my apartnt tomorrow. We’ll think of sothing together. For now, take care of yourself and get so rest." Nicole thought for a second. "In fact, i’ll co pick you up tomorrow at your house."
Jasmine relaxed. At least, she’s got her Nicole. "Thank you."
"Co on, baby girl. Brighten up your mood, I’ll co get you by tomorrow," she added. "Also, I know you don’t do stupid things but don’t do anything stupid, okay??"
Jasmine let out a small chuckle. "Of course."
"Take care of yourself, Jasmine," Nicole said softly. Jasmine humd before ending the call.
She pushed herself off the chair, leaving the divorce papers there. Tomorrow was another day. For now, she would take Nicole’s advice. She will rest and by tomorrow, she’ll figure out what to do next.
Jasmine staggered to her bed and slumped on it, her back hit the bed as she stared at the ceiling.
It felt just like yesterday when she t Kingsley in the traffic. Then, she lied about having a dislocated arm. She shalessly told him to marry her and surprisingly, he handed her his card.
His enigmatic presence filtered into her. His eyes that held mischief at their first eting—turned into one that held affection for her after a few months into their marriage—but now, those sa eyes held nothing but contempt and hatred for her. Sadly.
A single tear drop slid off the corner of her eyes, wetting her sheets.
