“Who knew that while I was sleeping drowsily, I started to feel an intense itch on my face,” Xu Lian explained. “I couldn’t resist scratching it, and the more I scratched, the itchier it got. So, I got up and went to the bathroom to look, and that’s when I discovered these bumps all over my face.”
“At first, I thought it was just an allergic reaction, but when I woke up my mom and my aunt, I realized that all five of us had developed these pus-filled bumps.”
“If it had just been , you could say it was a coincidence. But the five of us were staying in two different rooms, and we all developed the sa kind of bumps,” Xu Lian insisted. “There’s definitely sothing not right here. It must be a hygiene issue with this hotel!”
Liu iling was firmly convinced it was the hotel’s cleanliness at fault. The duty manager, unwilling to accept the bla, retorted,
“But why didn’t anyone else have this problem? You don’t look like wealthy people, not the type to be overly delicate. How co you’re all suddenly full of complaints?!”
Liu Ming, seeing the situation, felt a headache coming on and glanced back at the two community officers.
The pair of officers had been working under Liu Ming. Although he had been stripped of his position as squadron leader, they didn’t dare to act shady around him, still addressing him as ‘brother.’
The reason was that Liu Ming’s uncle was still sitting in the Public Security Bureau, having such strong backing ant it was only a matter of ti before Liu Ming reclaid his position as the squadron leader.
Therefore, the two junior officers were quite obedient under Liu Ming, following his orders to the letter. Seeing Liu Ming look back at them, they imdiately stepped forward to offer advice,
“Squad leader Liu, why not take them to the hospital for a check-up first? Let’s see what the problem is and hear what the doctor has to say. If it really is the hotel’s fault, they won’t be able to escape responsibility.”
Liu Ming, hearing this, nodded imdiately, “Alright, let’s take them to the hospital first. You two, one of you stay at the hotel to keep watch. The two rooms where they slept can’t be touched for now, and don’t let anyone else in.”
With that, Liu Ming, along with an officer, drove Xu Lian and the others to the nearby hospital in the police car.
Xu Lian’s group naturally was satisfied with Liu Ming’s solution, and the duty manager had no objections, as both parties were adamant that it wasn’t their fault.
Doctor Chen had been practicing surgery for many years and treated countless skin diseases, including common conditions like psoriasis, herpes, and abscesses. Of course, he had also seen so strange skin conditions, almost all of which had been effectively cured by him.
He happened to be on duty that night when an ergency case ca in, sent over by the police station. Doctor Chen, of course, took it very seriously.
But when he saw those horrifying dark bumps on the bodies of the five patients, even this veteran doctor, who had seen all sorts of bizarre skin diseases, was taken aback.
After donning his reading glasses and suiting up in his work uniform, gloves, and a mask, he moved closer to one of the patients. He stared at the patient’s face for a good while, then couldn’t help but frown deeply.
“Xiao Qin, go to my office and get that bottle of diphenhydramine,” Doctor Chen instructed the nurse.
The nurse did as told and quickly returned with a bottle of spray dication.
Doctor Chen took the spray and applied so of the dicine to Liu iling’s face, then waited several minutes before asking her how it felt.
To Doctor Chen’s disappointnt, Liu iling felt no improvent on the itchy bumps, even with such a high concentration of anti-inflammatory and anti-itch dication. The itch persisted, and the more she scratched, the itchier it got, driving her to want to scratch even more.
Doctor Chen’s expression imdiately turned grim, his face marked by a look of solemn concern.
He had been practicing dicine for over thirty years and had never seen such a strange skin disease; the symptoms didn’t seem like a bacterial infection but rather…
Uncertainty flickered in Doctor Chen’s eyes as he raised his head to look at the family of five, feeling both puzzled and bewildered.
“Doctor, they stayed at our hostel for one night and turned out like this. What on earth happened, and how could they have gotten bumps all over their bodies at the sa ti? Was it caused by unsanitary conditions?”
The duty manager had followed them in; he was the most anxious and couldn’t help but ask.
Upon hearing this, Doctor Chen let out a slight chuckle, “Unsanitary conditions? If only it were that simple a reason.”
“What do you an by that?” Liu Ming furrowed his brow.
Doctor Chen replied, “Is what I said so hard to understand? This is not a disease, and it has nothing to do with the hostel. As for the specific cause, you’ll have to ask them!”
“Not a disease?!” Liu Ming was stunned.
The duty manager, however, was relieved, his hostel no longer under suspicion, which ant he would not be responsible for this incident. This way, the boss wouldn’t bla it on him, and his bonus for the month wouldn’t be docked.
When Xu Lian heard what the senior doctor said, her face imdiately darkened as she cursed,
“You quack! Are you blind? I got so many pustules after just one night’s sleep. If it’s not a skin disease, then what is it? Are you in cahoots with the hostel to scam ? Damn you, all of you doctors are heartless beasts!”
The doctor had originally wanted to have Xu Lian try so of the redies he knew to see if they had any effect, but when he heard Xu Lian’s words, his face turned dark and he looked at her with an icy glare, saying with a cold laugh,
“Whether or not I’m a quack is not for you to judge. I have my reasons for saying this is not a disease!”
“Under normal circumstances, nothing would cause your skin to swell up like this overnight, other than bacterial infection or viral proliferation.”
“However, I just did a test on this young lady’s face, and diphenhydramine had no effect on your symptoms, which completely eliminates the possibility of bacterial or viral infection.”
“I originally thought you were just a few honest country folk, and such a thing shouldn’t happen to you, but now, seeing how poisonous this big sister’s mouth is, it actually confirms my suspicions.”
“Trouble cos from the mouth; you surely offended soone on your way to S City. Think carefully about where you’ve been the past couple of days and what you’ve done!”
The more Liu Ming listened, the more confused he beca, sensing that there was more to Doctor Chen’s words, “Doctor Chen, I don’t quite understand what you’re saying. Isn’t their condition a skin disease? What does it have to do with offending soone?”
Doctor Chen said, “I’ve already explained that their symptoms, although they look like a skin disease, are actually not a disease, but…”
At that point, Doctor Chen hesitated, glanced at Liu Ming’s uniform, and after a mont’s hesitation, still sighed and said,
“In any case, I can’t treat their condition; you’ll need to find the person you inadvertently offended. Only they can solve this.”
Doctor Chen’s last sentence was directed at Xu Lian and the other four.
