Chapter 1556: Chapter 1540: Soone in the Coffin

"Fish bones?!"

Huo Sining froze upon hearing this, and even Qibao, who was previously engulfed in grief and anger, pausing as if wanting to fight the elder, looked up in surprise.

The old granny nodded: "Because of this, the elder spread rumors, saying that Granny Jue’s family were all monsters, so after they died there were no bodies left, only a pile of fish bones. This story spread in the village, and many people believed it, and no one would co to this area. So adults even instilled this idea into children, making them fear Granny Jue’s family."

"The elder achieved his goal, isolating Qibao as an outcast in the village."

There was no reverence in the old granny’s eyes when she talked about the elder, only disgust. Clearly, so people understood that the elder did this for his own selfish interests.

However, at this mont, Huo Sining remained silent, looking at Qibao with a peculiar expression.

Why were the remains of Qibao’s father and grandmother not in their coffins, leaving only fish bones behind?

Huo Sining couldn’t help but recall Qibao’s special identity. Normally, people buried in coffins wouldn’t turn into fish bones, but what if Qibao’s father and grandmother were also Jiaoren?

The suspicion startled Huo Sining, as if realizing sothing. She looked up at the old granny and asked, "Granny Jue, where are Qibao’s parents’ graves?"

The old granny pointed to the back mountain: "Over in the woods, I’ll take you there."

Huo Sining nodded, pulling Qibao from the ruins, and had Gu Xu help carry the little boy, following the old granny up the mountain.

Soon, they arrived at a bamboo grove cetery. Amid the vast woods, the old granny pointed at two tombs not far away: "There they are."

"Initially, according to the clan’s rules, when soone passes away, their grave in the mountains is renovated with a layer of cent within a year to prevent overgrowth of weeds around it."

"But because of the elder, after the last ti he dug those graves, no one ever tended to them again. No one wanted to be buried here, and so in the village regarded this bamboo grove as an unlucky place, leaving these two graves deserted."

The old granny mumbled to herself, walked to the graves, and squatted down to pull out the weeds on them.

Huo Sining also squatted down, following the old granny’s lead in pulling weeds while asking, "Granny, after finding fish bone remains in the graves, what was done about it?"

Granny Jue didn’t understand Huo Sining’s question: "What do you an do about it? Does it need doing? Two of the grave diggers were terrified at the ti and dared not return, fearing bad luck, while others said Granny Jue and Qi Lang turned into zombies for revenge. In the end, it was my husband and several other brothers who carried the coffins back and reburied them."

"Not even the dead are spared. The elder will go to hell for this after he dies! But I suppose he doesn’t care anymore; he’s so money-minded that his conscience has long been eaten by dogs!"

Listening to Granny Jue, Huo Sining had no doubts initially, just wanting to verify. So she discreetly laid her hand on the land atop the graves.

The Heavenly Eye scanned two to three ters beneath, quickly revealing two black coffins. But soon, Huo Sining’s expression froze.

For within those two coffins, she could clearly see two complete adult skeletons lying beneath!

What shocked Huo Sining most was that both corpses stared with wide, round eyes, faces tinged blue and stiff, as if dying with unresolved grievances.

When Huo Sining’s Heavenly Eye passed over, those two corpses seed to et her gaze from a short distance away.

Locked in eye contact, though those corpse eyes were as lifeless as dead fish’s, the visual impact still sent Huo Sining’s heart racing to her throat, nearly making her scream.

The discovery startled Huo Sining, turning her face pale in an instant. She quickly pulled her hand back, collapsing to the ground, trembling with weak legs.

"What’s wrong with you?"

Seeing Huo Sining fall, Granny Jue looked at her, puzzled and asked.

Huo Sining shook her head, still looking unwell, instinctively closing her eyes.

Resting on the ground for nearly half a minute, Huo Sining finally suppressed the nauseating urge.

Calming down, she began analyzing, replaying Granny Jue’s words in her mind, then, despite discomfort, again placed her hand over the coffin area to scan.

This ti, the visual impact had notably diminished.

The two bodies still had discernible facial features, recognizing them as adult males. Judging by how fresh the bodies were, it was clear they’d been buried not long ago.

After scrutinizing the adult corpses, Huo Sining searched inside and out of the coffins, but felt disappointed. She found no fish bones as Granny Jue had ntioned, just two startlingly fresh bodies and nothing else in the coffins.

This puzzled Huo Sining. Given the overgrown weeds around the graves, clearly the area had been neglected, so how were these two bodies placed inside?

The two n’s abrupt deaths seed evident, for they wouldn’t have died with open eyes otherwise. What could have caused such unexpected deaths, and who buried them here? Were they hiding evidence to evade police pursuit?

What intrigued Huo Sining more was the identities of the bodies in the coffins. The Miao Village wasn’t populous, and few outsiders ca in. A death or two should be easily noticed, yet why hadn’t anyone found them here?

In this Miao Village, the elder had total control, the villagers were odd, and from the mont she entered the mountains, Huo Sining felt an inexplicably eerie atmosphere pervading the village, creating an unsettling feeling.
