Chapter 1204: Chapter 1201: Occupational Habits
With Qibao, the two flew directly to City C. As soon as they got off the plane, Huo Sining called the director. After connecting, the director’s attitude was quite enthusiastic, asking Huo Sining to wait at the airport, stating he would co personally to pick them up.
After waiting at the airport for over half an hour, Huo Sining wandered around, flipping through brochures advertising the sights of City C, getting a rough idea of the city’s attractions. She was just considering whether to visit these tourist spots with Qibao once her business was done here, when Director Zhu’s call ca in.
Walking out from the airport entrance, she saw a man in his fifties waiting on the square. Beside him were two n in their thirties. These two n’s sharp and firm gaze made it clear they were not museum staff, which made Huo Sining pause, but she approached them directly anyway.
The trio hadn’t expected the person they’d et to be so young, especially with Huo Sining holding the hand of a five or six-year-old child. So when they saw her walking out, they only glanced at her before shifting their gaze back to the crowds coming out of the airport.
"Hello, you must be Director Li? I’m Huo Sining, here at the request of my ntor Zhou Shitao. I’m sorry to trouble you to co all this way to pick
up."
Huo Sining walked up with a broad smile, extending her hand politely to the elderly man.
The old man and the two n behind him were montarily stunned, looking at Huo Sining’s youthful and slightly chubby face with so disbelief.
The notice said soone would be sent down to assist with the museum theft case. They thought at least a seasoned expert in their forties or fifties would be sent. Who knew it would be a young girl?
The old man handled it better than expected. Having experienced much in life, he masked his surprise well at Huo Sining’s arrival. However, the two younger n behind him wore faces full of doubt, their eyes showing faint dissatisfaction.
Huo Sining could guess their thoughts. With such a major problem here, they hoped a capable person would co to oversee things. Instead, they got a little girl fresh out of school. How old could she be? Does she even know anything about antiques? So young, what could she accomplish? Could she be the spoiled child of so high official, just here for so fun?
Huo Sining wasn’t surprised by their skepticism. Last year, after a piece of Yue Kiln Celadon had been swapped out, her treatnt at the Taicheng Museum wasn’t much better. Yet once she demonstrated her abilities, Director Bai’s attitude changed instantly. So now, she maintained a calm expression, not letting the doubts of the two n affect her.
Once in the car, Director Li chuckled, "I never expected Miss Huo to be so young and already a disciple of Mr. Zhou. A great teacher produces excellent students; your future is limitless, Miss Huo."
Huo Sining smiled slightly, "You’re too kind. Helping my ntor with his troubles is my duty. I only hope not to disgrace his good na."
Director Li hadn’t expected such modesty from Huo Sining. To be accepted as Zhou Shitao’s disciple at such a young age, he thought she might have a proud and dismissive attitude. Yet her deanor was modest and approachable, just like any ordinary child.
Originally, Director Li was dissatisfied with sending soone like her down. In his view, if the experts in H Province couldn’t figure it out, a young girl like this wouldn’t be able to either. Therefore, he was quite opposed to Huo Sining, intending to see her leave in embarrassnt.
However, hearing Huo Sining’s humble manner improved his impression of her. He reconsidered, thinking if she knew her place, they wouldn’t have to go too far.
But Director Li’s thoughts didn’t reflect the views of the other two young n. After witnessing Huo Sining’s calm deanor, they exchanged looks, instantly pegging her as just pretending. Their eyes revealed disdain and contempt, clearly displeased with Huo Sining.
"Miss Huo, having traveled such a distance, I’ve arranged a place for you to stay. Let’s settle you in first and have a al before discussing further. What do you think?" Director Li asked with a smile.
Huo Sining was montarily taken aback. What was Director Li implying? Did he truly take her as soone sent from above for inspection, setting up this whole al and lodging charade to delay and distract her from the museum matters?
Realizing Director Li’s underlying ssage, Huo Sining imdiately understood, involuntarily raising an eyebrow with a smile, saying:
"Director Li, I’m here precisely because of the swapped ancient artifacts in your museum. I think we should handle the main business first. I’ve been entrusted with a significant responsibility, and everyone is busy. Resolving this sooner provides an explanation to the public, don’t you agree?"
"Well..."
Director Li originally ant to do Huo Sining a favor, thinking that a young girl like her was sent just for a show. He intended to invite her to enjoy herself in City C for a few days before sending her on her way.
His intentions were kind, but Huo Sining didn’t appreciate them. Instead, she proactively requested to visit the museum, leaving Director Li awkward and hesitant, unsure how to respond to her.
The two young n driving upfront weren’t as restrained as Director Li. Seeing him hesitate, they couldn’t help but interject, "Director, if Miss Huo wants to go, let her go. Since she’s been sent down, she has to give so account."
"Exactly, we’re also curious about Miss Huo’s skills, maybe we could learn a trick or two!"
The two claid a desire to learn from her, but their eyes showed ridicule. Huo Sining understood their real intention was wanting to see her make a fool of herself.
A corner of Huo Sining’s mouth lifted. Instinctively, she glanced at Director Li and asked, "Director Li, who are these two?"
Director Li was taken aback, only realizing he hadn’t introduced them. "Oh, these two are investigators from the criminal investigation unit of H Province Public Security Bureau. This is Captain Feng Qing, and this is Deputy Captain He Ming. They’re assisting with the investigation into the swapping incident in our museum."
Huo Sining nodded. No wonder when she’d seen them at the airport, their sharp watchful looks and deanor suggested they were not museum staff.
With Director Li’s explanation, Huo Sining understood and nodded knowingly, not feeling surprised. It’s a cop’s habit to question things, which explained why these two were so skeptical of her.
