Chapter 152: What’s Mine

The moonlight stread through the little spaces in the curtains as Ellen stood in front of Mason’s bedroom door, her hand hovering for a mont before she knocked lightly. The soft sound echoed in the quiet night, and after a few seconds, the door creaked open.

Mason stood in the doorway, his eyebrow raised in surprise. His sharp, curious gaze t Ellen’s as he leaned one arm against the doorfra, clearly not expecting her.

"Can I co in?" Ellen asked. She felt a slight tension in the air, wondering if this was pushing boundaries. But then again, there shouldn’t be a problem, right? She believed getting into Mason’s room was no big deal after that night—at least, that’s what she thought.

Mason hesitated for the briefest of monts before stepping aside, opening the door wider, a silent gesture inviting her in. Without a word, Ellen slipped past him, the faint scent of his cologne blended with the cool night air as she moved further into the room. She crossed the small distance to his bed and sat down on its edge, her fingers lightly brushing the soft fabric of the comforter. The bed dipped slightly under her weight, and for a mont, there was only the sound of her own breathing.

Mason shut the door quietly and turned to her, his gaze still sharp, though now softened with curiosity. He remained standing by the door, arms crossed loosely. "What’s wrong?" he asked.

Ellen gave a slight shrug, trying to seem casual, though her mind was racing. "Just thought I’d check on you," she said lightly, her lips curving in a small, almost innocent smile. "How was your day?"

Mason’s brow furrowed for a second before he relaxed, leaning against the wall. "Pretty much the usual," he answered He shifted his weight slightly, the tension in his shoulders easing, though his eyes never left hers.

Ellen nodded as if she understood completely, though there was a flicker of sothing unreadable in her eyes. For a second, they both sat in silence.

Mason’s voice broke the silence, a hint of amusent creeping into his words. "Did you expect

to ask about your day too?"

Ellen’s face brightened, and she nodded enthusiastically, her eyes gleaming with playful mischief. "Maybe," she teased, her voice lighter now, the tension slowly lting away. "Don’t you want to know? Aren’t you curious about it?"

Mason smirked, a subtle hint of amusent tugging at the corners of his lips. "Fine," he said, crossing his arms again and gave her a teasingly serious look. "What did you do today, Ellen?"

Ellen pretended to think for a mont, her eyes darted upwards as if recalling the day’s events. "Well, I went to yoga, like usual," she began. "Then... I went to Clara’s house."

Mason’s eyebrow lifted again, but this ti there was more than just surprise. There was a flicker of interest, of curiosity that he couldn’t quite hide. "Really?" he asked. "I didn’t realize you and Clara were so close. What did you do there?"

Ellen tilted her head slightly, watching his reaction closely, as if she were asuring every subtle shift in his expression. "Nothing much," she said with a casual shrug. "Just talked... looked at so of your childhood photos."

The mont the words left her mouth, she noticed the way Mason’s expression tightened. It was subtle, but there—his jaw clenched ever so slightly, and the amusent that had been playing on his face just monts ago faded, replaced by sothing harder. Clearly, he didn’t like the idea of it.

Ellen’s lips curled into a small, mischievous smile. She leaned forward slightly, her gaze never leaving his. "You looked adorable, by the way," she added.

Mason’s eyes darkened, the amusent fully gone now. He stood straighter, his arms falling to his sides, though his hands curled into loose fists. "I’m sure I did," he muttered dryly.

Ellen watched him, her smile never faltering, though inside, she was studying his every move. "Clara and I had a lovely ti," Ellen continued, leaning back slightly as if settling into the conversation. "She really cares about you. It was nice seeing the side of you she sees."

Mason cleared his throat, his next words shifted the conversation in a different direction. "While you’re here," Mason began, "I wanted to tell you sothing. I’m going to Dubai. The day after tomorrow."

Ellen’s brows imdiately furrowed, her playful deanor fading into a frown of concern. "How long?" she asked with a hint of worry. She blinked at him, waiting for the answer.

Mason tilted his head slightly, as if calculating in his head. "A week, probably," he replied.

Ellen nodded, though her frown remained as she stared at him. Her eyes squinted, as if trying to read more into his words, looking for sothing he wasn’t saying.

Again? He sure is on the move a lot. I guess that’s the downside of being married to a busy guy.

She then stepped closer to him, the space between them growing smaller, her expression shifting into sothing more curious than concerned.

"No Aubrey?" Ellen asked. Her eyes narrowed as she studied Mason’s face, watching for his reaction.

Mason chuckled softly, a low sound that rumbled in his chest, and shook his head as if the very idea amused him. "Is that what you’re worried about?"

Ellen, unbothered by his attempt to brush it off, took another step closer. She repeated herself, "No Aubrey, right?" Her eyes fixed on him as if daring him to lie.

Mason let out a slow, exaggerated sigh. His face softened slightly, though, as he lifted a hand, his fingers brushing gently against Ellen’s cheek. "Absolutely not."

Ellen remained still, her breath catching slightly at the warmth of his touch. For a mont, her sharp gaze faltered, and her expression softened. She blinked, as if caught off guard by the sudden gentleness in his tone and touch. "Good. Because I don’t like it when soone else is ssing with what’s mine."
