Chapter 564: Chapter 566 Sleeping Together
Pei Haolan woke up to find himself hugging a delicate body sleeping beside him.
Startled, he jumped up, looking around, and realized that he had actually spent the night with a strange woman, and was imdiately stunned.
“Young Master, you’re awake,” said a familiar voice.
Pei Haolan looked down to see Su Lingxue staring at him with hazy eyes.
The soft voice also ca from her.
He swallowed hard and asked, “Miss Su, what are you doing here?”
Su Lingxue looked at him with deep eyes, “Have you forgotten what happened?”
“What, what happened?” Pei Haolan tried hard to rember what had occurred after he got drunk, but alas, he rembered nothing.
Su Lingxue’s eyes dropped in disappointnt, “If you can’t rember, then never mind.”
As she spoke, she threw off the thin quilt, exposing her fair skin in front of Pei Haolan, who quickly turned his face away.
“Miss Su, what exactly happened?”
“Nothing happened,” she said, while picking up her scattered clothes on the ground and putting them on.
Pei Haolan frowned in confusion, “Then why are we on the sa bed?”
Su Lingxue threw his clothes onto the bed, “You were holding tight and now you’re asking why we’re in the sa bed as if it’s so kind of joke.”
“How, how is that possible!” He would never do such dishonorable things while drunk.
Su Lingxue’s expression turned dim, “It’s okay, the Third Prince doesn’t have to acknowledge it. I will take my leave.”
Pei Haolan saw the fresh red on the bed, which stung his eyes, “Wait a mont.”
“Is there anything else?” Su Lingxue stopped and turned back to look at Pei Haolan, her beautiful eyes flickering with tears.
“I’m sorry… I…” Pei Haolan didn’t know what else to say.
“The Third Prince need not explain, I understand,” Su Lingxue said, her voice calm and distant.
Seeing this, Pei Haolan felt even more guilt-ridden, “Give so ti.”
“All of it was just my foolish wishful thinking,” Su Lingxue said, before turning and walking out the door.
Gazing at the empty doorway, Pei Haolan was filled with annoyance and regret.
He seed to have really gotten drunk, completely unaware of what had happened.
But he knew he hadn’t intended to take liberties with her.
At the mont, in addition to guilt, he also felt very uncomfortable.
He returned to the mansion feeling restless and saw Lih Luo standing at the entrance. He felt sowhat guilty and averted his gaze.
Lih Luo approached him joyfully, “You’re back? Haven’t you eaten yet? I’ll have soone prepare…”
“No need,” Pei Haolan interrupted her, “I’m tired and want to rest.”
Having said that, he turned and disappeared into the darkness.
“That’s too much. The Miss has been waiting here for him for so long, only to receive a perfunctory reply!” Luo Xue grumbled indignantly.
“Alright, you may leave,” Lih Luo said, waving her hand for Luo Xue to withdraw. She looked up at the Pei Haolan who had vanished into the night and felt a strong sense of defeat.
“Sigh…”
As the date of October 8th approached, the Crown Prince’s Mansion beca busier.
Shao He was as usual busy treating people, but she went to the palace every day to take The Emperor’s pulse and prepare dicinal concoctions while accompanying Pei Huaian out of the palace.
In the carriage, Pei Huaian took the book from Shao He’s hands and said, “The Emperor’s complexion has been good recently.”
He touched her cold hands and placed them in his palm, closing his over hers and holding them tight.
“It’s not bad. But it doesn’t change anything,” Shao He, feeling the warmth in her hands, inched closer to him.
Pei Huaian’s body was warr than most people, especially as winter approached, he felt even warr.
As Shao He moved close, she couldn’t help but greedily suck in the warmth that belonged to him.
Noticing her actions, Pei Huaian glanced sideways at her, a doting smile playing on his lips.
Suddenly, his eyebrows lifted slightly, and he pressed down on Shao He’s head. Almost at the sa mont, the carriage curtain was lifted, and an arrow flew in.
Pei Huaian’s lips curled into a slight smile as he caught the arrow with his hand and, exerting a bit of force, it snapped in two with a ‘crack.’
“My Lord, I will go and investigate,” Ah Mo said before leaping out.
“Stay inside the carriage,” Pei Huaian instructed, then lifted the carriage curtain and went out after him.
Soon, Pei Huaian returned to the carriage, his face solemn, “The attacker has vanished.”
Hearing this, Shao He’s brow furrowed.
It appeared the attacker did not seem to want their lives, so why did they do it?
Shao He suddenly noticed a note inside the broken arrow.
She took the note and unfolded it to read a few lines: “et at the old forest to the east of the city tomorrow at the Yin Hour.”
“The old forest to the east of the city?”
Shao He frowned, thinking carefully for a mont, “There seems to be a dilapidated temple there.”
“That should be the place,” Pei Huaian said, montarily silent, then tucked the note away.
“Are you going?” Shao He asked.
Pei Huaian, holding her hand, replied, “If I don’t go, how will I find out what this person behind the scenes wants to do?”
“But it’s far too dangerous for you to go alone,” Shao He suggested, “Take Ah Mo with you.”
Pei Huaian shook his head in refusal, “Since he told to co alone, if I bring people, he will surely know and definitely won’t show up.”
“But…”
“I promise I will ensure my own safety and will retreat imdiately if I sense anything amiss,” Pei Huaian looked into her eyes and said earnestly.
