Pei Huaian pondered for a mont, “What should we do now?”
Shao He approached one of the patients, lifted his hand to feel the pulse, and found that the patient was seriously ill.
“Bring a basin of water, and get a towel.”
Soon, the people from the clinic quickly brought over a basin of warm water. Shao He soaked the towel, wiped the woman’s body, and then gave her a dicine pill to swallow.
Pei Huaian stood by, witnessing it all, and his admiration for her grew.
Shao He’s reputation was significant, even being bestowed the title Divine Doctor by The Emperor. Yet, she did not beco prideful; on the contrary, she remained extrely courteous and treated all patients equally.
Shao He, Pei Huaian, and the clinic staff were busy for almost half the day, finally succeeding in reducing the patients’ high fevers and getting them to take dicine and drink so water.
Shao Hean looked at the patients gradually regaining consciousness, rubbing her waist that could barely straighten, and sighed with relief.
“You should go and rest,” Pei Huaian, looking up at her and noticing her movents, spoke with concern.
Shao Hean paused, then shook her head, “No need, I’ll stay and help out!”
Pei Huaian was montarily stunned, then smiled and nodded, “Well, that’s good.”
Shao Hean went over to him and said, “This is only a minor outbreak of the plague, but I believe we will get through this challenge.”
Pei Huaian pressed his lips together into a smile and nodded.
“Cough cough cough…” The patient began to cough violently, her already pale face becoming even more ghastly, as if she might collapse at any mont.
“Doctor… I… I can’t breathe… Am I going to die soon?”
Shao Hean quickly supported her, “Don’t panic, lie down first.”
The patient collapsed onto the bed as instructed, her chest heaving rapidly, her mouth opening and closing nonstop.
“I… I can’t go on…” she gasped for air, tears spilling from the corners of her eyes.
Shao Hean held her cold wrist, “Don’t talk nonsense, just listen to slowly.”
The patient weakly opened her eyes, looking up at the young Shao He, blinked feebly, and managed to say four words—
“It hurts so much.”
Shao Hean frowned slightly, “I know you’re in a lot of pain right now, but this is only temporary. You have to hang in there no matter what.”
“I… I can’t hold on.”
Shao Hean, seeing her complexion worsen, took out a pack of silver needles from her chest, selected three of them, and pierced them into the patient’s acupoints.
“Ah…”
The woman let out a sudden moan of pain, her body trembling, and beads of sweat the size of soybeans burst forth, her complexion growing increasingly poor.
“Physician… what’s happening to her?” asked one of the young clinic workers, rushing over.
Shao Hean sighed and said, “The patient has a colder constitution, combined with longstanding dietary issues, resulting in poor blood circulation and overall stiffness, causing her blood pressure to plumt sharply.”
Pausing, she continued, “The needling I just did has alleviated the blood flow within her, soon you’ll need to prepare so ginger soup for her. After she drinks it, she will be all right.”
“Right, right, right!”
The staff mber nodded repeatedly upon hearing this, turned, and left the clinic to prepare the dicine and ginger soup.
Shao He then moved on to check the other patients, “Your constitution tends towards cold and dampness, and during this period, it would be best for you to drink more warm water and avoid catching a cold.”
Pei Huaian silently stood to the side, watching as she patiently checked each patient’s condition.
After making the rounds, Shao He finally got a grasp of the patients’ constitutions, began to record their conditions with a pen, and then prescribed dicine specifically suited to each.
Noticing her furrowed brows, Pei Huaian walked up and asked, “Is there a problem?”
“It’s nothing, these patients won’t have any problems as long as they take their dicine regularly and recuperate for a few days,”
Shao Hean turned to smile at him, her tone resolute, “There’s nobody in this world that I can’t save, believe .”
“Yes.” Pei Huaian’s deep eyes sparkled with an indescribable luster as the corners of his mouth ford a faint curve.
“I believe you!”
Now the sky had turned dark, and the clinic staff had prepared so porridge for the patients. They served so to both Shao He and Pei Huaian as well.
Though neither of them had much of an appetite, they still managed to finish a bowl of porridge each.
Pei Huaian reached out and stroked Shao He’s soft hair, saying affectionately, “You’ve worked hard today. Get so rest earlier; I’ll stay here tonight.”
“Ok!” Shao Hean nodded obediently. She really was tired and needed to rest properly.
After Shao He left, Pei Huaian sat at the table, observing the chaos of the room and frowning slightly as he began tidying up on his own initiative.
In the following two days, Shao Hean diagnosed the patients every day and formulated treatnt plans.
Pei Huaian, different from his usual aloof personality, beca approachable, occasionally even cooking als himself for Shao He and the patients.
The townspeople were surprised to see the Fifth Prince being so down-to-earth, and even cooking als for them himself, which led to initially complaining patients to start recovering more positively.
Everyone banded together to help each other out, and the townsfolk from outside brought food daily. The entire Jingzhou stood united, with the people never feeling fear or worry.
Because they had survived many hardships before and believed that everything would get better.
