Chapter 402: Chapter 404: Want to Keep You by My Side

Such a group of extrely vicious thugs wouldn’t have been easy to handle, and Shao He understood that Pei Huaian did not want her to worry, yet she felt a twinge of sourness in her heart.

Pei Huaian didn’t care at all about how he had crawled out from a pile of dead bodies, nor how tough it had been to win this victory. As long as he could co back alive to see Shao He, it was his greatest fortune.

“Did anyone bully you in the Capital City these past few days? Did the Empress and the Second Prince cause you any trouble? Did Pei Jingyi do anything to you?”

Pei Huaian was worried she would be bullied in the Capital City since he was not there, and no one could back her up.

Shao He smiled and shook her head, moving closer to his side, “I am the Fifth Prince’s Consort, who dares to bully ?”

“As long as you and the child are fine, that’s all that matters.” Pei Huaian’s suspended heart could finally rest easy.

Seeing his pale face and cracked lips, Shao He couldn’t help but feel distressed. She gently touched his exceptionally handso features and murmured, “It’s my fault… I can’t help you with anything, I can only cause you to get hurt.”

“Don’t talk nonsense. If it weren’t for you this ti, how could I still be alive to co back? This is the second ti you’ve saved . I have nothing to repay you with, but only offer myself to you.”

Pei Huaian held Shao He’s hands resting on his chest, his tone was doting and his eyes were deep, with his drooping lashes hiding the tumult of emotions in his gaze.

Shao He’s eyes reddened, and she bit her lip and said, “Okay.”

In that mont, she finally acknowledged the emotions in her heart, no longer evading or testing the waters, she was willing to take the plunge for Pei Huaian.

Pei Huaian enveloped her in his arms, holding her body tight, wishing he could embed her in his marrow, to fuse them into one.

The two quietly embraced each other for a mont. Pei Huaian looked up at Shao He’s swollen eyes, feeling an unbearable pang of heartache. He cupped her delicate face and bent down to kiss away her tears.

His voice was husky as he said, “In this life, I’ve lost too much, but you, I cannot bear to lose again, no matter the cost, I want to keep you trapped by my side forever.”

Shao He buried her head in his embrace, took a deep breath, and greedily inhaled his fresh scent, feeling as sweet as if she had eaten honey.

“Huaian…”

“Hmm, I’m here.”

Pei Huaian, holding her, tightened his embrace slowly, as he softly kissed the top of her hair, his heart brimming with happiness.

The two, feeling each other’s warmth and breath, grew calm and tender in heart.

Suddenly, Shao He thought of what Ah Mo had said and asked, looking up, “Weren’t you supposed to reach the Capital City with the others in three days? Why have you co back alone?”

“The main force will indeed take three days to reach the Capital City. I hurried through the night to see you.”

Speak of three days, Pei Huaian didn’t want to wait even a mont longer. All this month, he had been longingly thinking of Shao He and their child.

“Won’t that cause so problems?” Shao He worried it would lead to unfavorable rumors about him.

“No worries, when the main force arrives outside the city, soone will notify . Then I can go out again,” answered Pei Huaian, his face weary.

His eyelids grew heavier, as he hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in the mountains for a long ti.

“The case involving the Empress Dowager has complete evidence and witnesses. I plan to make the accusation with Yun Qian in the next few days,” Pei Huaian’s voice lowered as he spoke.

Hearing this, Shao He asked, “Since you have won a victory this ti, the Emperor is bound to reward you. Are you planning to make the accusation during the reward banquet?”

“Yes, I want to take this opportunity to let everyone know of the Empress’s cris.”

Pei Huaian struggled to stay awake, but Shao He’s words were like a lullaby, making it impossible for him to hold on any longer.

He vaguely thought he heard Shao He say sothing she liked, but he didn’t catch it before falling asleep.

Shao He, looking at the sleeping person, her lips curled slightly upward, “I said I like you.”

If Pei Huaian knew he had missed such an important confession, he surely wouldn’t have slept no matter what.

Shao He smoothed out his frown and carefully covered him with the blanket.

Just as she was about to get up and leave, her wrist was caught, “Shao He, don’t leave , don’t ever leave .”

Shao He had no choice but to fall asleep with him.

In a villa in the Suburbs of the Capital, Pei Chengye’s expression was nacing as he glared at the man kneeling before him, angrily shouting, “Useless! You can’t even deal with a re woman and child; what use are you to this Prince? In three days, Pei Huaian will return to the Capital, and then it will not be easy to get rid of Shao He.”

The man kneeling on the ground shivered, not daring to move a muscle with his head lowered.

He didn’t want to fail either!

His plan was supposed to be foolproof; who would have known that they would be foiled by a sudden appearance of the Hidden Guard, who captured them all while he barely escaped with his life.

“Master, Master…” the man kneeling trembled as he called out, too frightened to continue speaking lest he anger his master further.

“Speak!” Pei Chengye barked, which nearly scared the man into soiling himself as he stumbled over his words, “Master, the n I sent out have all been killed.”

Pei Chengye’s indifferent face showed surprise, then squinted his eyes and said, “Who has such great power?”

His Hidden Guard were also carefully trained, yet just like that, soone had wiped them out, and not just one unit, making him sense a hint of danger.
