Chapter 310: Chapter 311: The Emperor Fainted Chapter 310: Chapter 311: The Emperor Fainted Three days had flown by, and during that ti, Shao He had been closely watching Lin Shuangqiao to ensure she did not seek Yun Qian’s favor again. Only then did he let his guard down, perhaps truly realizing his mistakes.
“Shao He, what are your plans for tonight?” Yun Qian suddenly appeared from the back courtyard and asked the daydreaming person.
“The lantern festival?”
Shao He quickly rembered that Pei Huaian had ntioned the lantern festival would be in three days. She had been so busy with the childbirth incident that she had pushed the event to the back of her mind.
“I’m a bit tired these past few days and want to rest well. I have no plans to go out and wander,” Shao He said as she rubbed her tired eyes.
Yun Qian nodded after hearing her response, “You should indeed take a good rest. How about I give you ti off early today so you can go ho and have a good ti with your child?”
“Okay, thank you.”
Shao He left early in the afternoon and returned to her residence where Xiao Linzhang threw himself into her arms.
“Mother, mother.”
Shao He joyfully picked him up and kissed his chubby cheek, “Have you been naughty today?”
“iyou.”
Hearing her son’s unclear pronunciation, Shao He corrected him, “It’s ‘iyou,’ not ‘iyou.’
“iyou,” Xiao Linzhang said earnestly, but his pronunciation was still a bit off.
Shao He patiently corrected him over and over until he finally got it right.
“Miss, today is the lantern festival; are you back early to go see the lanterns with the Fifth Prince?” Qingxia asked cheerily by her side.
Shao He shook her head, “He invited before, but I refused.”
“Why?”
Qing Shan, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but show a puzzled look.
If the miss had already moved into the Fifth Prince’s Mansion, it ant that she was starting to accept the Fifth Prince. So why wouldn’t she go to see the lanterns with him?
Seeing the confusion on their faces, Shao He said slowly, “Xiao Linzhang is still little. I don’t want him to attract trouble or people to take their chances with him. The lantern festival is crowded and chaotic. What if I lose sight of him and sothing happens to the child?”
“Everyone felt the miss made sense upon hearing this.”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure the Fifth Prince will buy the best lanterns to give to the miss, and he will also accompany the miss in the mansion to appreciate the lanterns.”
Qingxia knew how precious the miss was to the Fifth Prince, so how could he possibly leave her alone to see the lanterns, even if that person was the Emperor.
Shao He’s face blushed slightly at the teasing words, and she glared at her, saying, “You’re always so glib, now go get so food ready.”
Qingxia smiled with pursed lips, “Why would I need to prepare when the Fifth Prince has already arranged the miss’s dinner? I’ll bring it over.”
Surprise flashed in Shao He’s eyes; she hadn’t expected him to prepare dinner for her, and a warm current flowed through her heart.
After having dinner, Shao He played with Xiao Linzhang in the courtyard, looking up at the sky filled with Kongming lanterns, holding her child and making a wish.
While the master and servants were enjoying themselves, Steward Zhang suddenly ca to report, “Doctor Shao, sothing terrible has happened.”
Seeing Steward Zhang in panic, Shao He imdiately asked, “What has happened?”
“It’s the Emperor; he fell while walking, and a few princes are bringing him here,” Steward Zhang said urgently.
No sooner had the words left his mouth than Pei Huaian appeared holding the Emperor, “Shao He, quickly save my father.”
“Alright, first put the Emperor in the room.” Pei Huaian carried the Emperor to the neighboring courtyard, while Shao He handed the child in her arms to Qingxia behind her.
Giving her a aningful look to quickly leave with the child, Shao He knew that Pei Chengye and the others had always been suspicious about the child’s identity and feared they might take this opportunity to strike.
Just as Qingxia was about to leave with the child, she was stopped by Pei Chengye who harshly questioned, “Where are you taking the child? Why are Doctor Shao and her child in my younger brother’s residence?”
“This child…” As Pei Chengye stepped forward to touch the child, Qing Shan blocked him.
Seeing the maid obstructing him, Pei Chengye’s face turned angrily, but before he could lash out, Pei Huaian intervened, “I specifically requested for Doctor Shao to be brought here early. I didn’t expect my Second Imperial Brother to not care about the Emperor’s condition, having ti instead to trouble others.”
With no coback, Pei Chengye was left speechless. Pei Huaian glanced at Qingxia and Qing Shan, “Take the child away first, don’t let him get frightened.”
“Yes,” Qingxia and Qing Shan left with the child.
Pei Chengye wanted to say more, but Pei Siyang stepped forward to intervene, “Whatever it is, let’s wait until Doctor Shao has examined the Emperor’s body.”
“Your arguing – will it bring peace to the Emperor? Do you not want to know the reason behind the Emperor’s collapse?”
Pei Siyang’s words silenced everyone.
The Emperor was laid on the bed and Shao He went to take his pulse and perford a series of examinations.
Ultimately, she determined that the fainting was not due to a cerebral infarction but initially suspected it was a heart problem, which could only be confird with a thorough check. For now, she could only provide temporary intravenous fluids.
Shao He repeated this to the princes, “Also, I need my equipnt from Anji Hall, you need to move it over here, and clear another room. I need to create a sterile operating room just in case.”
“What’s a sterile operating room? And what are those equipnt of yours?” Pei Haolan couldn’t help but ask curiously.
Shao He saw his curious look and explained it simply.
Pei Haolan felt like he kind of understood, yet also as if he didn’t.
