Chapter 29: Chapter 30: Can’t Block Open Attacks and Hidden Sches
At this ti, within the small courtyard.
With a “creak,” a red lacquered wooden door was pushed open, and a man dressed in a black long gown erged from behind the door.
His steps were steady yet slow, unhurried and unflustered, yet they exuded a temperant that instilled a sense of tranquility in others.
The man looked up outside, then quickly retracted his gaze and briskly walked towards the teahouse.
In the side room, an incense burner was emitting wisps of smoke, filling the air, and a faint scent of tea wafted through.
On the table, there was a set of purple clay pots, a few jade cups, and two exquisite teacups.
The man walked straight to the table, picked up one of the teacups, and sipped lightly, looking at Pei Huaian in the wheelchair.
At that mont, Pei Huaian, holding a black chess piece, was intently observing the chessboard layout.
“What have you called here for this ti?” Yan Ze asked as he put down his teacup.
He could be said to never visit Sanbao Hall without cause; he would not seek him out without reason. Each visit had a purpose.
“Play a ga.”
Seeing this, Yan Ze did not ask further but nodded in agreent.
The two sat opposite each other, with a pot of hot tea and teacups on the table.
Yan Ze held a white chess piece but did not move for a long ti; Pei Huaian did not urge him but rely waited silently.
After a long while, Yan Ze finally spoke, “I’ve lost.”
Pei Huaian nodded, his mouth always harboring a faint smile, “There’s sothing I need your help with.”
“Oh, you need my help? That’s unusual.”
Yan Ze was quite curious about what could make him ask for help.
“Instruct your n to guard Anji Hall.”
Yan Ze’s eyebrows slightly raised. He picked up his teacup and leaned forward. “That doesn’t sound like you. When did you start ddling in other affairs?”
Pei Huaian did not want to elaborate further, just cast a glance and said, “You should arrange for more patrols nearby.”
“This…” Yan Ze feigned difficulty.
Pei Huaian’s gaze lifted slightly, “As a reward, the Warm Jade chess set will be delivered to your residence tomorrow.”
“For such a small matter, even without a reward, I would do my best to handle it.” Yan Ze imdiately agreed, delighted. He had long coveted the Warm Jade chess set, and now that he was finally getting it, he was naturally overjoyed.
He hadn’t expected such a simple task would fetch him the object he had long desired. He had been coveting Pei Huaian’s Warm Jade chess set for a long ti, but he had never ntioned it.Update by n0vgo.co
This made Yan Ze even more curious about what could make him make such a sacrifice.
Looking at Pei Huaian before him, with his handso features and serious expression, though his face bore a hint of sickness.
Seeing that the other was silent, Yan Ze continued, “Why haven’t you returned to the palace since you’ve been back in the capital for many days? The Empress has already started choosing consorts for you.”
A flicker of disgust passed fleetingly through Pei Huaian’s eyes as he thought of the Empress’s hypocritical deanor, but it quickly disappeared, returning to his usual indifferent state.
“My legs aren’t healed yet, returning might not be enough to fend off both the overt and covert attacks,” Pei Huaian said, slightly lifting his head, his gaze devoid of warmth, his voice also carrying a chill.
As they spoke, Yan Ze caught a glimpse of soone shopping below and signaled with his eyes, “Is that the owner of Anji Hall?”
He knew a bit about the owner of Anji Hall, whose dical skills were good enough for the Imperial dical Bureau, yet he chose not to work there but instead opened his own dical hall; he was indeed a peculiar person.
Others longed to enter the Imperial dical Bureau, an institution they couldn’t get into, but he seed to have no interest in it, as if it were a dragon’s den.
Following his gaze, Pei Huaian indeed spotted Yun Qian coming out to shop, holding many baby products, apparently buying them for a child.
