Chapter 167: Chapter 168: The Child Will Call Daddy
Shao He grew even more suspicious that the person from that night was Pei Huaian, but she now had no evidence to prove it.
As she pondered how to proceed, she suddenly saw a familiar figure outside the door.
When Pei Huaian saw her, he was extrely surprised but quickly regained his composure and asked, “Why did you co back so early today?”
“The clinic didn’t have many patients today, so I thought I’d co back and spend so ti with the child,” Shao He explained.

With no other choice, Shao He had to hand the child over, and Pei Huaian, with sharp eyes, noticed blood on the child’s heel and said with great distress, “How did this happen?”
“He might have accidentally scratched himself, but it’s just a small cut, nothing serious.” Shao He had forgotten to wipe it off Xiao Linzhang earlier, and now responded evasively, not expecting it to be noticed.
Pei Huaian spoke with extre dissatisfaction, “Three people looking after one child, and he still gets hurt.”
“It’s normal for little children to get bumps and bruises now and then. It’s not a big deal.”
As Shao He agonized over how to get a sample of Pei Huaian’s blood, she was suddenly interrupted by a shout while she was deep in thought by the table.
“Daddy.”
“Daddy.”
Pei Huaian, holding him, trembled, his heart pounding violently, almost dropping the little one in his arms, his face a mask of panic.
Shao He turned her head in shock and saw Xiao Linzhang biting his lip and pronouncing, “Daddy.”
She clearly saw a mix of panic and possibly even a hint of pride in Pei Huaian’s eyes, which brought doubts to her mind.
The three people who were about to enter the room looked at each other, recalling how the Fifth Prince taught the child to call for his father every day and considered whether they should retreat for now.
Qingxia, in the lead, whispered to the two beside her, “Shall we co back later?”
Qing Shan and Nanny Zhang spoke in unison, “Okay.”
And so, the three of them quickly withdrew from the battlefield, afraid that another second’s delay would make them cannon fodder.
Pei Huaian anxiously asked, “Xiao Linzhang, what did you just call ?”
“Daddy!” Xiao Linzhang responded in his babyish voice.
Lifting his chubby hands, he grabbed Pei Huaian’s collar, pulling close, and said in his babyish voice, “Daddy!”
Pei Huaian’s heart rate sped up, his mind flashing with countless images, yet he didn’t dare to confirm them.
Xiao Linzhang cocked his head, thought hard, and then with a vigorous nod of his little head, he affird, “Daddy.”
Shao He was stunned by his repeated calling of “Daddy” and asked in astonishnt, “No one taught him, so how did he suddenly start saying daddy?”
“Perhaps the child is innately gifted. It’s normal for an eight-month-old to call mother, and now that he’s over nine months, calling father is also normal,” Pei Huaian explained with a light cough.
Facing his explanation, Shao He didn’t believe it and even suspected Pei Huaian had coached the child, though she didn’t show it on her face.
Pei Huaian sensed Shao He’s probing gaze, as if she had discovered sothing, and his face beca a bit unnatural as he quickly turned his head away.
“Although Xiao Linzhang is smart, it should be impossible for him to learn to call in such a short ti…”
“What’s so strange about that? Many children start speaking early. Once they call for mother, calling for father cos next,” Pei Huaian insisted.

“Is Doctor Yun interacting with the Imperial dical Bureau? Does he know people there?” Pei Huaian tried to gather information about Yun Qian from Shao He.

It wasn’t that he wanted to hide things, but the matter was too complex to disclose to Shao He at the mont.
“Oh, I’m not very clear about his matters, and I don’t know if he is familiar with the Imperial dical Bureau,” Shao He was nearly ignorant, although she had her suspicions, which she did not share with Pei Huaian.
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust him, but she didn’t want to discuss matters regarding Yun Qian too much. Seeing this, Pei Huaian did not continue to inquire, and Xiao Linzhang in his arms began to cry.
