Chapter 97: Su Danhong’s Big Spending
It was hard for Su Danhong to say anything about what Hou Wazi had said. Mother Ji frowned though.
The next day, she went to Feng Fangfang and lectured, “You and Jianguo have only one son, and everything will be his in the future. He has no one to share it with. He is growing now, so you should spend a little more on him!”
It didn’t take very long for Hou Wazi to lose weight, and Mother Ji was very dissatisfied.
Everyone's life now was not as difficult as it used to be. In the past there was nothing they could do about it. But now there weren't any families without food. Did they have to make their own lives so hard to live? And let their child go hungry?
In the past, she thought about living with Lao Da’s family out of all her children, but now she saw that was a mistake.
As for what her mother-in-law said, Feng Fangfang responded with, “I do only have a son, so how can I not hope for good things for him? There's nothing I can do about so things. If I don't save it, then how could we live in the future? Jianguo is a field worker, and I don't have much to make a living. In the future, Hou Wazi will have to go to middle school, high school, and college. Doesn’t that all need money?”
She also wanted to have more children, but her health declined after giving birth to Hou Wazi. By the ti she had recovered, the policy had been implented so that she could only have one child. She would be fined if she had more than one child.
Thus, she raised son more carefully than anyone else in the village. Yet, in the end, their family conditions held limitations. She couldn’t give her child everything.
Her family didn’t have a regular job that had a fixed salary every month!
Mother Ji frowned over how she was still being passive aggressive about how the shop in town was given to Su Jindang instead of her. She didn’t want to give her more reason to complain, so she said, “Don’t think too much about it. Jianyun can do whatever he wants. It’s up to him to give sothing to who he wants to give. It’s not the only way to make a living, there is other work to do.”
“I know there’s other work, and I'm not lazy about working hard. But, Danhong wasn’t being upright. She didn’t help her in-laws and ended up working with soone outside the family!” Feng Fangfang criticized. In her mind, wasn’t Su Jindang an outsider?
“Fine, just raise Hou Wazi well for . If you don’t raise him well now, he won’t grow taller later. Hou Wazi will bla you for the rest of your life.” When Mother Ji finished speaking, she went back.
The more Feng Fangfang thought about it, the angrier she beca. When Ji Jianguo ca back, she told him what Mother Ji had said and complained, “Jianguo, what do you think mother is trying to do? How can she say that I am mistreating Hou Wazi? If the family was doing well, then why wouldn’t I know to give so at to Hou Wazi? This must be about money! Our family isn’t being taken care of, and everything good is being given to that maternal family!”
She had to say it. Feng Fangfang was really jealous and really angry.
What happened in the past wasn’t a problem. If they didn’t want to give them sothing, then they didn’t. But why couldn’t this shop be given to her family?
Wasn’t she quick when it ca to working? Also, didn’t soone say that the second sister-in-law of her maternal family was about to give birth to a baby? That’s such a burden! She couldn’t compare to Feng Fangfang!
Speaking of this, Ji Jianguo actually felt a little upset and felt that his third brother was not being considerate enough.
Jianyun’s wife must have discussed it with him. Jianyun definitely had to agree to it since Su Jindang was asked to go to town to oversee the shop. Jianyun was taking care of outsiders and was unwilling to help him out, his eldest brother.
He was more than happy to look after the shop and collect money than to work the fields for food.
“Don't worry about those things. Hou Wazi is growing now, we can't let him go hungry.” Ji Jianguo states.
“I know he has been going over to his third uncle's house. Did you know that all the dogs in his third uncle's house are being taken care of better than humans!” Feng Fangfang spoke with jealousy.
Ji Jianguo did not say anything, but he had also seen the good food for those dogs. No wonder the dogs were all as big as cows and were ferocious.
After Mother Ji had gone over, Hou Wazi was treated better. However, the last ti she heard him say that he was hungry, his third aunt asked him to co over before going to school. She gave him two boiled eggs and told him to take them to school to eat.
Eggs were common for Su Danhong. The chickens on the mountain laid eggs very fast so she could eat it whenever she wanted to. It didn’t take much to give two boiled eggs to Hou Wazi. Sotis it wasn’t just boiled eggs. Once in a while, she gave Hou Wazi an apple, pear, or sothing else.
Mother Ji did not know at first. She found out this morning. Once she knew, she couldn’t keep calm and just let Hou Wazi go to school. She questioned Su Danhong, “You have been giving Hou Wazi food?” As soon as she saw the two eggs and the apple, she realized why the apples at ho were eaten so fast these days!
Hou Wazi ate one, and Yan’er had to eat one every day, and there was also her and her old man, and the ones nibbled on from ti to ti, then this…
“A boy has a large appetite, so I let him eat whatever he likes. It doesn’t cost a lot. When our orchard is ready, wouldn’t there be a lot more to eat? We can't let the eldest grandson of our Ji family grow up to be shorter than other people,” Su Danhong said honestly.
Although she was not really a generous person, her eldest nephew, Hou Wazi, was very likable. He was close to her and his third uncle. It wasn’t much to give him a hit to eat, and it’s not like she was forbidden to do this.
As for the question of whether money should be saved, Su Danhong had said before that money earned should be spent, and should be spent happily. Otherwise, if you earned money and only saved it, then what was the point of earning money?
Of course, the family had to save so money for ergencies or necessities sotis. Su Danhong had already saved up for that, and it wasn’t a small amount. But at the sa ti, she had to live her life.
Mother Ji saw how considerate she was, and how freely she spent her money. She didn’t know what to say.
She wanted to tell her she couldn’t do this, but it was for the benefit of her eldest grandson. If she said it was fine, then it was almost like Su Danhong was raising another son…
Mother Ji told Father Ji about this in private.
Ji Fu did not take her seriously. “Danhong is kind. She couldn’t stand to see Hou Wazi hungry. It’s already been done, and it’s not like he was eating an outsider’s food.”
His impression of Lao San’s wife beca even better though. She really had the mind and ability of soone from a prosperous family.
Hou Wazi was the eldest of the third generation, so shouldn’t he start things off for that generation? If his eldest grandson grew to be short and small, then he couldn’t raise his head when he went out.
Lao Da’s wife had a small view of the world and didn’t think of this. But Lao San’s wife did, and acted on it when realized it.
Mother Ji thought about it, but she was a little guilty. “We sotis go over to eat, and now Hou Wazi is there to eat. Danhong probably didn’t expect to take care of this many people.”
“Let's just help them take care of the orchard. What else can we do?” Father Ji glanced at her with annoyance.
Mother Ji got up and said, “I’m going to get so eggs.”
The matter was over, but it was obvious that Hou Wazi was looking better these days with the help of his third aunt. Feng Fangfang didn't know about that. She thought that her son looked a lot better because he had eaten so at these past few days. Although she was upset about the money, she loved her son. Thus, from ti to ti she would go buy so at to eat.
The days passed by calmly.
At the end of April, Ji Jianyun, who had been away for more than two months, ca back with his cousins.
