Chapter 40 Mother’s View of Her Son-in-law

***

When Yu Dong woke up, she was confused. She felt like her pillow was hard and sowhat awkward. She tried to turn over to get more comfortable, but she inadvertently bumped into a thick and warm chest.

Almost instantly, Yu Dong sobered up and her eyes traveled along the warm arms until she saw the Xia Feng’s gentle eyes.

“You’ve woken up?” Xia Feng lowered his head and kissed Yu Dong’s forehead.

Yu Dong blinked, last night’s activities returning to her and Xia Feng saw her face slowly reddening.

“Ah…” At Yu Dong’s shy look, Xia Feng couldn’t help but laugh.

“What are you laughing at?” Yu Dong was embarrassed and left Xia Feng’s embrace. She wanted to sit up, but the quilt slipped down as she did so, revealing her chest. With a cry of alarm, Yu Dong quickly laid back down.

Extrely satisfied with the soft body back in his arms, Xia Feng smile grew as he hugged Yu Dong.

Yu Dong was speechless. Being in such an embarrassing situation so early in the morning, she could only bite Xia Feng’s chest to vent.

“Stop, don’t make any more trouble. We need to get up for dinner, and leave afterward.” New Year’s was in two days, Xia Feng and Yu Dong planned to drive to her hotown today.

“You get up first.” Yu Dong said as she looked up with wide eyes.

Being faced with such a lovely look, Xia Feng couldn’t hold back and kissed Yu Dong deeply. It was only after that he had the endurance to get up and go to the bathroom to wash up first.

Yu Dong placed a hand over her drumming heart as she looked down at the rumpled clothes on the floor. Taking advantage of the empty room, she rushed to pick up her clothes and fled to the second bedroom.

When Xia Feng ca out of the bathroom and saw the empty bed, he quickened his pace. He dressed and wiped his hair with his towel before heading to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

After half an hour, Yu Dong appeared. When she saw Xia Feng and the laid out breakfast, her face reddened uncontrollably.

“Co, sit down and eat.” Xia Feng noticed that Yu Dong lingered at the doorway, so he beckoned her in.

“Oh…” Yu Dong walked and stiffly sat down.

The Yu Dong who rarely woke up this early had no appetite. After eating two poached eggs, she took her milk and slowly drank. Xia Feng looked up to see her lips stained with milk and couldn’t help but reach out to wipe it away.

Yu Dong didn’t avoid his hand, but her shy eyes fluttered, and she couldn’t look at him in the eye.

“How co you weren’t shy like this when we first t?” Xia Feng asked.

“What are you talking about?” As a reborn golden leftover woman, Yu Dong will never admit to the fact that she was just a giant in theory and a dwarf in practice.

(T/N As in she’s only knowledgable in the theory side, and when it cos to the doing it in for real, she has no experience)

Xia Feng stood up and bit Yu Dong’s small mouth, ah…it tastes like milk.

“You…”

“Don’t seduce , or we’ll miss my mother-in-law’s dinner.” Xia Feng sat back and continued to eat his breakfast.

Yu Dong felt like she had just lost sothing, lost to this cheeky man opposite of her. Cough…when did this man beco so shaless?

…..

Yu Dong’s hotown was in the middle of Jiangxi Province. It would usually take 10 hours by train, but because there weren’t any buses that went to Yu Dong’s village, they would have to get off the train and board several buses.

Yu Dong proposed that they drive instead- if they take the highway, they’ll arrive at around the sa ti as the alternative and they could even pack things to bring along. More importantly, if he was kicked out by Yu Dong’s mother, Xia Feng had a ans of transportation to go to the city and find a hotel.

“Are you sure your mother won’t like ?” As he drove, Xia Feng asked Yu Dong.

“It’s pretty hard to say right now.” Yu Dong thought back; if this were 10 years, no, 5 years in the future my mom would definitely et you with beating gongs, drums, and firecrackers.

“You can be rest assured, no matter what father-in-law and mother-in-law do, I won’t leave you.” Xia Feng said.

“Don’t you dare!” Xia Feng smiled at this retort, glancing at Yu Dong’s ring finger with warm eyes.

…..

Lu Jia, at 7:00 p.m.

Since 6:00 p.m. Mother Yu and Father Yu had been asking Yu Song when Yu Dong would arrive in 10-minute intervals.

Poor Yu Song had no choice but to bombard Yu Dong with texts every 10 minutes. In his heart he complained: He knew that they were still an hour out, don’t force to make a fuss every few minutes.

“Mom the food’s getting a little cold, you should go heat it up so when Dong Dong eats it’ll be warm and delicious.” His mother was so restless, Yu Song could only suggest this.

“What eating? Leaving ho and eloping, who wants to feed that child.” Mother Yu growled.

“Yes, yes.” Yu Song ntally rolled his eyes, their mother would ask for Yu Dong every week ah, and hearing that Yu Dong would bring her boyfriend back his mother actually wore clothes that she hadn’t brought out in two years.

His mother continued to nag, but she still took the food back into the kitchen to warm them again.

“How’s Dong Dong’s boyfriend? What did she say to you?” When Father Yu saw that Mother Yu had left, he grabbed his son and whispered.

“Dad, I don’t know anything. You said that n shouldn’t care too much about their sister’s love life.” Yu Song replied.

“Then what are you good for?” Father Yu sat back down in disapproval.

Yu Song felt like a fish affected by its pond’s turbulent condition. God, help overco this trying ti!!!

At this ti, headlights could be seen through the window, illuminating the courtyard. All three people practically raced to the door. Yu Song looked at the car’s license plate and shouted: “They’re here, that’s a Shanghai license plate.”

Father and Mother Yu were gleeful, before catching themselves and each person calmly went back to the living room and kitchen respectively.

Yu Song was speechless at their actions. The corners of his mouth twitched, what’s with that, they ran faster than I did.

The car stopped, and Yu Dong was the first to get out of the car. Seeing her brother young again, free from mortgage and family worries caused her to jump and hug him tight.

“What’s wrong? Were you just bullied?” Yu Song had been curious about his brother-in-law, but Yu Dong’s actions made him angry and caused him to jump into the wrong conclusions.

Father Yu was still inside the house, but when he heard his son’s words, he imdiately jumped up and grabbed the chair he was sitting on, raising it threateningly that Xia Feng had to take a step backward.

Yu Dong realized her mistake, and she let go of her brother to say with embarrassnt: “It’s just that I haven’t seen you in a while, I missed you.”

It’s been a long ti since I last saw you smile at .

“Don’t scare like that!” Yu Song bonked his sister’s head and then turned to Xia Feng.

“Dad!” In her previous life, it was her father that pressured her the least to get married. Still, he had the most impact on her. His white hair, sad eyes, and bent figure had always made Yu Dong feel like being unmarried was a great sin.

Seeing that it was just a misunderstanding, Father Yu coughed, calmly lowering his chair and sitting on it out on the yard.

When Yu Dong turned back and waved at him, Xia Feng finally felt brave enough to approach.

“Dad, this is my boyfriend, Xia Feng.” Yu Dong introduced with a smile.

“Hello Uncle, my na is Xia Feng.” Xia Feng greeted with a smile.

Father Yu looked at him from top to bottom, making a sound but not expressing any opinions.

The Doctor Xia who performs countless surgeries without batting an eye is currently in a state of trendous anxiety.

“Where’s Mom?” Yu Dong asked her brother.

“She’s heating up the food.” Yu Song replied, pointing towards the kitchen

Yu Dong hesitated for a mont, but she eventually went into the kitchen. Before her rebirth, Yu Dong and her mom were in a constant state of battle, quarreling whenever they et. But even so, she had missed her mother and her steadfast love.

The following crash caused the three n out in the yard to jump.

“You still have the gall to co back, why don’t you just go outside and die, see if I don’t kill you.”

“Mom, mom, I was wrong, let’s not fight.”

Mother Yu’s loud voice, coupled with Yu Dong’s wails resounded throughout the small yard.

Yu Song and Father Yu looked at each other but made no other reaction.

However, when Xia Feng heard Yu Dong’s miserable voice, he couldn’t help but run inside. As he ran in, he saw Yu Dong co out of the kitchen, her mother right behind her pelting her with a rattan cane.

Xia Feng didn’t dare stop Mother Yu. Instead, he wrapped his arms around Yu Dong, blocking Mother Yu’s cane.

After two hits, Mother Yu finally realized that she had been hitting the wrong person. Nevertheless, she continued to hit a few more tis before stopping.

“Are you alright!” Xia Feng’s first concern was Yu Dong.

Yu Dong nodded. She only cried out loud every ti she was hit to satisfy her mother’s anger; her clothes were thick and protected her body from any actual pain.

Xia Feng was imnsely relieved when she whispered this. Only then did he turn around to face Mother Yu. He bowed respectfully and said:? “Auntie, I am Xia Feng, Yu Dong’s boyfriend.”

Initially, Mother Yu had a good impression of Xia Feng when he ran in to protect Yu Dong. Now after listening to Xia Feng’s introduction, she couldn’t stay calm: “Xia Feng? Wasn’t your boyfriend called Fang Hua?”

“That…we broke up long ago.” Yu Dong said in a small voice.

“You…you dead girl!” Yu Dong barely had any ti to think before her mother was swinging her cane again.

Xia Feng saw this and pressed Yu Dong to his chest protectively.

Yu Song and Father Yu were crowding the doorway, watching the fun as they huddled together. Yu Song comnted: “It looks like that guy really likes our silly Dong Dong, he’s being so sticky.”

Father Yu nodded in agreent. Seeing that Mother Yu made her point across he finally called out to her: “OK, that’s enough ssing around, let’s eat first.”

Mother Yu had beco tired of swinging the rattan cane around, so she simply headed back into the kitchen while giving her daughter a glance: “Co on, bring out the dishes.”

Yu Dong ekly followed.

Xia Feng looked at Yu Dong’s retreating back with apprehension, but he knew he couldn’t follow her now. When he turned around, he saw that his father-in-law and brother-in-law had returned to the living room, leaving him alone.

Touching his nose, Xia Feng returned to the car and carried out the gifts they had bought.

Xia Feng took out the tobacco and alcohol before rushing towards Father Yu: “This is sothing and Yu Dong bought for you.”

“Hey, this Arican brand is good!” Yu Song comnted as he glanced at the packaging.

Father Yu’s reaction was reserved when he accepted the gifts, but Yu Song knew his father was satisfied.

From the mont he ca in, brother-in-law was the least resistant to his presence, so Xia Feng took the opportunity to take out the watch. “Yu Dong said you like watches.” Xia Feng said as he handed the box to Yu Song.

“Dang…its LONGINES.” Yu Song looked at the watch with wide eyes.

“Hm.” Father Yu glanced at his drooling son.

“Too bad I don’t really like this brand!” Yu Song realized that he was staring at the watch like a greedy madman, so he silently placed the watch on the table.

Even if you want to kiss it, you can’t disgrace your sister.

Xia Feng felt half his heart sink into the ground as they stood awkwardly in the living room. Just as the silence beca too much to bear, the mother and daughter ca out of the kitchen.
