Chapter 895: Chapter 869 Why Can’t It Be Said Anymore (Thanks to kateliu for the Silver Reward 46 More) Chapter 895: Chapter 869 Why Can’t It Be Said Anymore (Thanks to kateliu for the Silver Reward 46 More) Kiara spread out her notebook, ready to decide which picture of the small wooden table looked better, when Kiara’s mother called.

“Kiara!”

“What’s up, Mom?”

“Have you been busy lately?”

“Not too bad. Arlong’s got exams coming up, right? I’ll go back to check on him.”

“That’s great, that’s exactly what I’m calling about. Hurry back ho. Your brother’s exam is one thing, but there’s another matter. Don’t you do divinations for people? There’s sothing I need you to take care of.”

Divinations… Kiara’s mouth twitched.

Did her mom seriously think of her as a fortune-teller?

“Spill it, who’s in trouble this ti? Am I supposed to treat a child who doesn’t want to eat, or predict whether a nopausal woman’s husband is cheating on her? You really should find Giorno, you know. He’d be willing to be the director for won’s affairs and could handle these issues.”

These were the random tasks her esteed mother had set her up with over the past two years, involving friends and relatives she couldn’t say no to.

Thankfully, since marrying into the Johnson family, Daniel had taken over Kiara’s role as the “director for won’s affairs,” handling all the peculiar tasks of comforting her mother’s odd friends and relatives.

Sotis Kiara felt a mischievous urge to reveal Giorno’s true profession as a forensic psychiatrist in the Psychiatry Departnt, and she wondered if those aunts and uncles, always eager to have soone else solve their problems for free, would get worked up knowing that big brother Giorno specialized in diagnosing ntal illness in criminal cases.

Kiara’s mother also knew that Giorno’s profession sounded a bit scary to announce outright, so when introducing him, she’d simply say her stepson was a Doctor, knowing that the specialized jargon was too complex for ordinary folks to understand.

Considering the repercussions of revealing Giorno’s hidden career would an having to take over the “director for won’s affairs” role again, Kiara had no choice but to suppress her prankish impulse and was now habitually passing the buck.

Speaking of Giorno, Kiara’s mother beca quite animated.

“Your brother Giorno and Alice May went on a trip, the young couple’s relationship is progressing so fast! That Alice is not bad, I’ve seen her, she’s straightforward and doesn’t hold back, that’s the kind of girl I like. Last ti she ca to our ho, she ate half a plate of ribs all by herself, and I liked her imdiately, no pretense!”

“She’s always been a little foodie, no need for pretense—wait a second, where did you say he and Alice are going?”

Kiara sensed sothing was off.

“They’re off traveling. After Giorno visited you, sohow they agreed to go see sothing together. Since Giorno’s workplace gave him so ti off, they just called us to say they went out for fun.”

This wasn’t right, sothing was definitely off.

Kiara imdiately realized there was a problem.

Olivia Brown and Giorno were not the kind of impulsive artistic youths who’d just take off. They were both quite pragmatic. The dinner they had was a premature celebration hosted by Mother Yuno; how could they miss it for such an occasion?

And they didn’t even tell the family where they were going…

Kiara narrowed her eyes; there were hidden issues here!

“Can you co back tomorrow?” Kiara’s mother was still asking.

“I’ll be back tomorrow afternoon. Oh, and Mom, who’s the one you said needed to look into so matter?”

“Do you still rember your third maternal uncle?”

“I have so many uncles, which one are you talking about?”

“How co you never rember anything? You’ve read yourself silly— it’s the neighbor of your Granduncle Three, his mom and your granny are—”

“Stop! Hold on! Don’t talk to about these relationships!” Kiara’s head hurt just thinking about these complicated connections.

Mario Yuno ca back and saw Kiara sitting cross-legged, chatting on the phone in the manner of a friendly village woman. Her expressions were so rich, they could only be caused by a call from ho.

After Mario changed his shoes, he proudly sat down beside her. Kiara rubbed his short hair with her hand. The feeling of that fuzzy stubble against the palm was especially pleasant, addictive even.

“You’re a graduate student and you can’t even figure out these simple relationships, you might as well not have studied at all!” Kiara’s mother had to patiently reintroduce every relative and what to call them every ti they went out, or Kiara would never be able to get it right by herself.

“Why should I study this stuff? People’s nas are just identifiers.”

She felt even with a doctorate, she wouldn’t be able to understand these complex social relationships. When the elders talked about these things, they could almost qualify for post-doctoral scholars!

“That’s not right! You can’t talk like that. Our family has money now and you’ve married into a prestigious family. When you see relatives on the street, you should greet them proactively; otherwise, they will go back and say you think you’re too good for them now that you’re wealthy.”

Prestigious family? Mario pointed to his nose, wondering if he, a man who handed over his salary each month and received pocket money in return, could be considered prestigious.

Kiara gestured to his height, implying that since his family was tall, they were a so-called “prestigious family”!

“I couldn’t care less what they say. Only people with an inferiority complex care about that. There are so many people on the main road; how could I possibly recognize them all?”

“Emma Clark, have you gotten arrogant because you’re rich now? Don’t think that just because you won a championship, I won’t criticize you! When you won the championship, didn’t I have to call everyone to let them know?”

Kiara rolled her eyes. “Mom, isn’t it annoying for others when you show off like that?”

No wonder these relatives, who haven’t contacted them in years, would approach her mother for favors. It turns out her nopausal Old Lady had been bragging to them; wasn’t this just looking for trouble?

“Mom, how many tis have I told you, ‘When you’re sad, speak not to others—for foes rejoice and friends despair— and when you’re happy, speak not to others—for they might envy or take advantage of you.’ Why can’t you learn?” Kiara was truly worried about her mother’s boisterous personality.

Once they had money, even the most distant relatives they hadn’t contacted in centuries were suddenly in touch. But back when Kiara’s mother was being beaten by Rico Clark and the family needed to borrow money to build a house, why was there not one to be found?

“Why can’t I say it? I’m proud of my accomplished daughter! I must tell everyone! My well-raised daughter has brought honor, and I will let them see, I will make them recognize that Our Ho has risen!”

That kind of braggy, plebeian deanor, Kiara guessed her mother would never be able to shake it off.

Even now that she had beco a governntal official’s wife, that mindset still persisted.

“Kiara, let tell you, when you’re wealthy, you can’t forget the past. Rember, in the old days, your mother and her sisters…”

It’s all over now!

Kiara’s face fell. Whenever her mother started with “rember, in the old days,” it ant at least a 10-minute session of bitter-sweet reminiscing was coming!

She would start with the miserable past, and the only ones able to listen with a smile from beginning to end, without getting tired of it, were Giorno and his son!

“Mother, Mother! Edward has co ho. You should lecture him quickly. His lifestyle has beco too lavish recently. He’s working overti and not eating properly. Give him a good talking-to! And make sure he soaks so goji berries in his insulated cup!”
