Chapter 1464: Chapter 1436: A Dozen of Such Punishnts
Winning a substantial award didn’t really change anything for Kiara. After returning to the country, she carried on as usual, closely caring for Dad’s health, nurturing the child, studying, working, teaming up with Camden to ‘torture’ single folks, and not missing a beat.
She didn’t care much about the award and tried her best to keep a low profile, but the dostic dia were far from idle and zealously reported Kiara’s achievents.
It didn’t matter how many people knew about the relatively obscure field of psychology; what mattered was that winning a major competition was sothing to be celebrated. Outsiders enjoyed the spectacle while insiders appreciated the expertise, and colleagues in the industry quickly took notice of Kiara’s na.
Although there were quite a few who sourly claid that she was benefiting from connections, having found a good ntor and basking in the prestige of Yuzo Joel.
Kiara herself didn’t pay much attention to these sour words. To be precise, she didn’t hear them at all.
Kiara could keep her cool, but so people couldn’t.
Take her ntor, Alyssa Lynn Professor Liu Taylor, for instance. Professor Liu Taylor was even more excited about Kiara’s award than Kiara herself. This old lady had co from an era where collective values were paramount. She had a strong sense of national pride and was determined to raise the profile of the dostic industry. Now that her apprentice had beco the first person from the Celestial Empire to win a major competition, how could Professor Liu Taylor not be thrilled?
Kiara received a warm welco from her upon returning to the country. The school also wanted to seize the opportunity to draw attention and specially organized a solo presentation for Kiara, which she couldn’t decline and had to agree to.
On the day of the presentation, Mario Yuno and the others happened to have a half-day off; learning that his daughter-in-law was going to speak, Camden ca over, all excited. Such an opportunity to draw attention was not to be missed. Had it not been inconvenient to bring their daughter, he would have even brought her along; whether she understood the presentation or not was irrelevant—the important thing was to see Kiara commanding the stage and relishing the mont.
When Kiara received a call from Mario Yuno, she went out to et him, but as soon as she reached the school gate, she sensed sothing was amiss.
Was she seeing things?!
Kiara didn’t see Mario Yuno; instead, she saw Giorno and her Mum and stepfather. The turnout was unexpectedly comprehensive!
She had expressly told Camden to just notify Giorno, as her lecture would include so technical content to analyze and summarize the competition, and Giorno, as a forensics expert in the Psychiatry Departnt, wanted to broaden his horizons. But what about the rest of these people?
“Why did you co?” Kiara asked Arlong.
Seeing so many friends and relatives left her feeling thunderstruck, but she dared only ask Arlong; after all, the others were her elders.
“Got half a day off, so I just ca by,” Arlong’s expression seed a bit gloomy, and Kiara felt sothing was off.
It was rare for Arlong to have a half-day off, and rather than video calling his reford girlfriend to be all lovey-dovey, he ca to join in the commotion. Observing his distracted deanor, could it be he had a tiff with his girlfriend who claid to be “like a lotus, untouched by the muddy water”?
In the presence of so many people, Kiara couldn’t ask outright, so she planned to inquire privately once the event was over.
“Where’s your brother-in-law?” Kiara asked Arlong while glancing out of the corner of her eye as her Mum put on her cheongsam…
Kiara’s mother ticulously styled her hair, having gone to the hairdresser for a special hairstyle. She even dragged Father along, and Kiara suspected that if it wasn’t for Olivia Brown needing to stay ho to watch the child, she would have been pulled along, too! What on earth was Mario Yuno up to, letting these people co all this way without stopping them?
“Soone was talking about you, then Mario Yuno just—” Kiara’s mother, always one to speak her mind, almost blurted out the truth, but Father pulled her back, stopping her.
“Mario Yuno went to the restroom, he’ll be right back,” Giorno smoothed things over.
Kiara figured out the situation just by looking at the scene. Her husband must have overheard soone talking about her and gone off to handle it his way, which was indeed Camden’s style.
No wonder her Mum was looking so displeased.
Mario Yuno had just co over, and Kiara saw that he was coming from the direction of the parking lot; he must have dragged soone behind the car to trim them down.
Now that everyone had arrived, Kiara acted as if nothing was amiss and led everyone inside. There was still so ti before the start of the speech, but the venue was already filling up with people and was expected to get even more crowded. She found Professor Liu Taylor and asked for her help in arranging seats for the family mbers, and while everyone was heading inside, she pulled Mario Yuno off to a secluded area.
“What were you doing bringing so many people? Didn’t I ask you to just call Giorno?”
“I couldn’t help it, the public demand was too high,” Camden spread his hands.
Kiara held her forehead, resigning herself to her friends’ love of lively gatherings.
“Since everyone’s here, you can find a restaurant later and call to reserve a private room in advance. After it’s all over, we’ll have a al together. Rember to call Olivia Brown when it’s about to end, so she can co over with the child.”
“Got it.”
After delegating the important tasks, Kiara casually asked, “Did you go off to fight?”
“Hm… no,” under Kiara’s half-smiling gaze, Mario Yuno touched his nose honestly, “I just helped so people rebuild their worldviews, didn’t actually hit anyone.”
Uttering a few harsh words and giving a “light” kick to the stomach twice, these actions fell within the scope of worldview adjustnt; in Mario Yuno’s eyes, none of these constituted violent behavior.
Kiara laughed, “Why bother arguing with idiots? If you ignore them, won’t that be the end of it?”
“Fools aren’t a big deal, but when they start harm society, they need to be dealt with,” Mario Yuno wasn’t about to admit he was wrong.
As he led the group over, just as they left the parking lot, he overheard two guys discussing the speech.
The school was giving significant attention to this speech, stirring up quite a fuss. Mario Yuno perked up his ears and keenly listened as soon as he heard his daughter-in-law’s na.
He had co primarily to bask in his daughter-in-law’s glory and satisfy his vanity. Instead of feeling proud, he heard a load of ssed-up comnts—things about her seducing professors or having an improper relationship with Yuzo Joel, saying how co others couldn’t go and only she was allowed, and so forth.
This was sothing Camden couldn’t tolerate. He dragged the offenders behind the car and gave them a “worldview adjustnt.” He felt too rciful for not beating them until they spat blood.
“Young man, this isn’t good behavior,” Kiara patted his shoulder. Seeing Camden’s indignant expression, she wanted to laugh but had to hold it back.
Mario Yuno felt utterly defiant, even if his daughter-in-law said he was too harsh, he couldn’t let it go. It didn’t matter if he didn’t get praised; at worst, he could just clean the windows again at ho. How could he live with himself if he endured this passively?
So he gave Kiara a smug, righteous face, unrepentant to the end, “I did it, so what.”
“Acting rashly cos with a price, co here, let properly punish you.”
Punish , then! Mario Yuno braced himself and moved closer. Kiara hooked her finger to signal him to co even nearer. As he approached, she stood on tiptoe, gave him a quick peck, and then flitted away.
“Next ti you’re this impulsive, you’ll be punished the sa way.”
Is there any more punishnt like this? Bring on a dozen more! Please don’t be shy, Camden naively thought.
