Chapter 494: Chapter 501: Incomprehensible

The carrier pigeon flew up from under the cliff, surely a signal from Qi Yun who must have found sothing at the bottom of the cliff.

Han Yu’s gaze stirred but he hesitated to reach out and untie the ssage bound to the pigeon’s leg. He rely watched intently, wondering when he, Han Yu, had beco such a coward that he was sowhat afraid to face reality, dreading the worst news from Qi Yun, news he might be unable to bear, and the likelihood of which was more than slim.

The secret guard following Han Yu understood his reluctance and stood silently beside him, not daring to urge him, though anxious to know what Qi Yun had written. How was Madam faring?

After what felt like an eternity, Han Yu finally sighed, caught the pigeon, and shakily took the ssage from its leg to open it.

The secret guard was tense, not daring to miss any of Han Yu’s actions, fearful that bad news in the letter might provoke Master to rashness. Standing on the edge of the cliff, what if Han Yu, in despair, were to jump down to join his wife?

Although the secret guard believed Master to be stronger than this, and that even if he received news of his wife’s death, he would at least seek vengeance for her, sparing no one who dared covet his wife, he couldn’t be certain. After all, Master’s behavior over the past two days, his concern for his wife, had truly exceeded his understanding. Love was a realm he had never ventured into, but who could say what irrational actions might be taken under its influence?

Han Yu opened the letter with trembling hands. His eyes quickly scanned the contents and a wave of relief washed over him. His face, taut with tension, softened slightly. Although they had not found Su Wenyue, any news was good news for Han Yu as it ant his wife was still alive.

The secret guard, closely observing his Master’s expressions, saw Han Yu’s obvious reaction and felt a surge of joy. Perhaps this ant Madam was truly still alive?

“Master, has the Mistress been found?” Unable to restrain his concern, the secret guard asked.

“She’s still alive,” Han Yu said, his voice inevitably colored with emotion. Although Qi Yun’s letter only speculated and could not fully confirm it, Han Yu believed it to be true—his wife would not be dead.

The secret guard rejoiced upon hearing that Su Wenyue was still alive and was amazed. These past few days, hearing his master insist his wife was alive, he had been skeptical, thinking Master had lost touch with reality due to his deep love, unwilling to accept the truth. But now, Madam was really alive. He couldn’t help but exclaim, “Madam is truly blessed with good fortune to have survived such a fall from the high cliff! It’s miraculous! My congratulations to you, Master. Shall we head down imdiately to retrieve Madam?”

“Although Qi Yun has found so clues and knows that Lady Yue is still alive, he has yet to find her,” Han Yu said, his face betraying his worry. His daughter-in-law had jumped from such a height, and though the lake below had spared her life, injury was inevitable. Moreover, her constitution was originally weak, and the cold lake water would be too much for her to bear. It was frustrating not knowing her condition. To make matters worse, she had been taken away by soone unknown with indiscernible intentions, good or bad. With her beautiful appearance, Han Yu feared those people coveted his wife’s beauty. No matter what, even if his worst fears materialized, having already experienced the pain of loss once, Han Yu felt he could disregard anything as long as his wife returned to him safe and sound.

The embroidered shoe ntioned in the letter, as well as the tracks along the shore, made Han Yu antsy, unwilling to waste a single mont. He led his n imdiately down to the bottom of the cliff. He wouldn’t be able to rest until he confird that the shoe was his daughter-in-law’s. With her currently missing, he had to find her himself. The thought of his wife suffering at this mont deeply disturbed Han Yu.

And he hadn’t forgotten those sent by Zhao Fan, who had the audacity to continue their scheming even after his wife had jumped off a cliff. A dangerous glint flashed in Han Yu’s eyes as he gave a few instructions to the secret guard. Death would be a rcy to those people. He was determined to make those beasts beg for death and experience the worst sufferings of the world.

The secret guard was surprised by Han Yu’s orders. Master had always acted ruthlessly but had drawn the line at particularly cruel thods, considering them against the natural order. Now, Master ordered such asures himself, showing that Madam’s situation had truly touched a nerve, leading him to abandon any last vestiges of rcy. Contemplating these thods, the secret guard shuddered, inwardly mourning for those people yet feeling no sympathy.

Thanks to Qi Yun’s previous clearing, the path to the bottom of the cliff was easy for Han Yu, who didn’t take long to reach the base. Qi Yun, inford of his master’s approach, had dispatched soone to et Han Yu since he couldn’t leave the search himself.

The embroidered shoe was passed to Han Yu, who imdiately recognized it as his daughter-in-law’s, clutching it tightly in his hand.

Since the content of the letter Qi Yun had sent was quite brief, Han Yu asked for a recount of what had happened and then personally inspected the lakeside, finding nothing. He then followed the secret guard to the riverbank where footprints had been found and afterward, to the forest.

Even though the secret guard had already inspected the forest several tis, Han Yu was taking no chances, unwilling to miss any possibility of learning his daughter-in-law’s whereabouts. He examined every trace in the forest and squatted down to scrutinize the array of disorderly footprints and marks, still finding nothing of value. Disappointed, he dusted off the dirt on his hands and stood up. It was then, as he scanned the area inadvertently, that Han Yu’s gaze sharpened. He quickly walked to a large tree ahead, where a few seemingly aningless carvings held an extraordinary significance for Han Yu, nearly bringing him to tears of joy.

If previously, he could not be completely sure based on the footprints by the riverbank, even though they resembled those his wife might leave, his heart was restless. But upon seeing these particular carvings, Han Yu was finally certain his wife was indeed alive. These marks held a special aning, and only the two of them understood what it represented.
