"Mom and Dad, you’re here. Why don’t you co in?" Tang Yue was about to take the kids to buy groceries when she opened the door and saw ng Jin and Mo Xiaolin standing at the entrance. Mo Xiaolin’s eyes were a bit red, and ng Jin didn’t look very good.
"Mom and Dad, did you have a fight?"
Before Tang Yue could say more, Zaozao and Chenchen ran over excitedly, saying, "Grandpa, Grandma."
"Slow down you two." Mo Xiaolin watched the two adorable kids, her eyes growing even redder.
Tang Yue stood aside, her heart sinking.
Mo Xiaolin led the two children inside, and Tang Yue, filled with apprehension, poured them hot tea. She said, "Zaozao, Chenchen, go play while I talk with Grandpa and Grandma."
"But Grandpa, when is Dad coming back? I miss him." Chenchen, always sweet, leaned into ng Jin’s arms, saying in a sweet voice, "I drew a picture. I want to give it to Dad."
"Be good, Chenchen." ng Jin, faced with his obedient granddaughter, suddenly found himself at a loss for words.
"Chenchen, Grandma will take you inside to play." Mo Xiaolin wiped her red eyes and led the two children into the room.
Early on and Chenchen’s room was next door, filled with toys. Chenchen happily showed Grandma Mo Xiaolin her drawing. The figure in the white shirt, drawn by five-year-old Chenchen, might not be perfect but was undeniably cute.
Mo Xiaolin’s eyes imdiately reddened.
"Dad, has sothing happened to Si Yu?" Tang Yue asked, guessing.
It was rare for ng Jin and Mo Xiaolin to argue, so it must not have been a fight between them. Chenchen’s question to ng Jin gave Tang Yue a bad feeling.
"Si Yu should have returned two days ago, but a flood hit Fengji, and they happened to be passing through, so things went wrong." ng Jin’s words made Tang Yue’s heart sink continuously. She tightly gripped her hands and asked, "Dad, is Si Yu still in Fengji?"
"Yes." ng Jin nodded, seeing her anxiety, and comforted, "Don’t worry. Si Yu has guardian angels watching over him; he’ll be okay."
ng Jin also couldn’t believe that his highly capable son would be defeated by a flood.
"Dad." Tang Yue desperately wanted to know what had happened.
ng Jin explained slowly, "ng Siyu’s car broke down as they passed through a village in Fengji County. They sheltered in a school to escape the rain. When the flood ca, Si Yu couldn’t just stand by, so he helped rescue children from the school and was swept away by the flood. It’s been two days with no news."
The only consolation was that another rescuer had been swept away by the flood but survived by clinging to a tree.
With ng Siyu’s quick thinking, his chances of surviving were about seventy percent.
"What?"
Tang Yue sprang to her feet, her mind blank for a while.
"Xiao Yue, I believe Si Yu will be safe and sound." Mo Xiaolin walked up quickly, holding her hand and saying, "Xiao Yue, your dad and I plan to go to Fengji. We decided not to keep it from you."
"Let’s go right away." Tang Yue said, eager to sprout wings and fly to Fengji County.
"Mommy, are you going to find Dad?" Chenchen ran out.
"Chenchen." Tang Yue crouched and hugged Chenchen close. She looked up and saw Wu Xin leading Zaozao out. Her heart, which had been pounding crazily, slowly settled. She said, "Chenchen, stay ho with your brother, and I’ll co back with Dad. Okay?"
"Co back soon. I’m waiting for Dad to praise my drawing." Chenchen raised the picture, showing the green figure beside two little dolls and an adorable adult, a family of four holding hands.
Tang Yue’s eyes instantly reddened. She kissed her daughter’s cheek and said, "Chenchen, rest assured. Mom and Dad will co back soon, and Dad will praise Chenchen’s amazing drawing."
Tang Yue comforted her daughter and was about to speak to her son when Zaozao said, "Mom, co back soon."
Zaozao’s sensible words left Tang Yue unsure what to say.
That morning, Tang Yue set off for Fengji County with ng Jin and Mo Xiaolin.
Zhang Hualian was called over temporarily to watch the children.
Wu Xin boarded the helicopter with Tang Yue.
On the way, Tang Yue remained collected, comforting Mo Xiaolin, saying, "Mom, thank you for telling the truth, not keeping it secret from ."
"I have a hunch that Si Yu will be okay." Tang Yue spoke firmly, and she had cald down over ti. She was confident that ng Siyu’s skills would ensure his safety.
She only worried that ng Siyu might suffer, getting washed away to unknown places. Despite the sumr season, the mountain nights were cold.
Is he cold?
Does he have food?
Tang Yue worried, her heart aching, as she raced to Fengji County. The floodwaters were receding, but the houses soaked in floodwaters were dirty and ssy, with many people tidying or disinfecting.
Fengji County wasn’t the hardest-hit by the flood; it was mostly subrged, with most people safely housed in tall buildings.
But as they drove to the village, conditions looked grim.
Many houses were destroyed, with so casualties, a reminder of humanity’s insignificance before nature’s wrath.
They couldn’t drive into the village from the entrance and had to walk.
Anticipating challenging conditions, Tang Yue had dressed in sports gear and shoes for trekking. She walked fast, with Wu Xin staying close, saying, "Xiao Yue, don’t worry. It’ll be fine."
"Xiao Yue, slow down." Mo Xiaolin, who seldom visited such places, used to live in Wangjiang County as a music teacher. Her body wasn’t as strong as the two sisters-in-law who regularly labored. She had been pampered by ng Jin over the years. Having just walked a short distance, she was already lagging.
"Xiaolin, wait here. I’ll accompany Xiao Yue into the mountains to find him."
ng Jin, concerned about Mo Xiaolin, knew she was exhausted after only a short walk. She wouldn’t be able to continue the search for ng Siyu.
"No, one more person ans more strength." Mo Xiaolin insisted. "Brother Jin, I know you worry about , but he’s my son. I can’t give up on finding him; he’s waiting for us."
Mo Xiaolin wiped her tears, unbothered by her injuries, brushed off the mud-stained pants from a recent fall, and continued searching for ng Siyu.
