Wen Yun couldn’t help swallowing; she only felt that the ng Yanzhi in front of her had sohow turned into two.
She... seed drunk.
Wen Yun blinked her hazy eyes a few tis, a wave of drowsiness hit, and her whole body went limp.
"Hey!"
ng Yanzhi hadn’t expected it at all; Wen Yun said she’d fall and she just collapsed. He stared at her palm-sized little face for quite a while before saying, "You can sleep like this?"
The assistant stepped forward and said, "Mr. ng, how about I carry..." Lady Wen to go rest.
Before the assistant could finish, ng Yanzhi swept a cold glance over him and said, "You carry her?"
The assistant instantly felt a chill run through him. Sensing ng Yanzhi’s gaze, colder than ice and frost, he shook his head repeatedly and said, "No, I an you carry her, Mr. ng. You carry her."
A fawning smile was plastered on the assistant’s face.
ng Yanzhi directly scooped Wen Yun up in his arms.
The assistant walked ahead obsequiously. When they reached the underground parking lot, he very obsequiously opened the car door, closed it, then got into the driver’s seat. He didn’t dare let his eyes wander, afraid of seeing anything he shouldn’t. He asked cautiously, "Mr. ng, where to?"
"Huayuan Small Building." ng Yanzhi said directly.
It was one of his villas, and because the environnt was nice, he went there quite often. After he got married, he’d most likely live there.
"Got it."
The assistant drove ng Yanzhi straight to Huayuan Small Building. When they arrived and parked, the assistant swiftly got ready to leave, afraid that if he delayed even a step, ng Yanzhi would latch onto his earlier slip.
"Hold on."
Just as ng Yanzhi opened his mouth before getting out of the car, he scared the assistant so much his heart started pounding.
A short while later, after ng Yanzhi had carried her up to a room upstairs, the assistant stood in the living room. When he saw ng Yanzhi, he imdiately admitted fault: "Mr. ng, I was wrong."
"Then make up for it with rit. Tomorrow morning, I want to see all of Wen Yun’s information." ng Yanzhi crossed his long legs and sat on the sofa, his gaze sharp as he looked at the assistant.
The assistant nodded quickly and said, "Okay, Mr. ng."
Bitterness welled up in the assistant’s heart. To dig up this information, he probably wouldn’t be sleeping tonight.
...
Early the next morning, the assistant rushed back to Huayuan Small Building.
ng Yanzhi was still sitting on the sofa; it was hard to tell whether he hadn’t slept at all the previous night or had gotten up early.
"Mr. ng, here’s the information you asked for." The assistant handed over the file he’d worked all night to obtain.
ng Yanzhi flipped through it once and read every page thoroughly.
A pitiful little thing really was a pitiful little thing; from childhood till now, she’d always been pitiful. Her birth mother had died early, and after her biological father took a stepmother, she’d essentially gained another stepfather.
In the Wen Family, Wen Yun was the least favored one. The bullying she’d suffered couldn’t be counted on ten fingers. Fortunately, Wen Yun was quite driven; she got into a university and, by working several part-ti jobs through her own diligence, managed to finish college. She worked at a small company; she wasn’t rich, but she could support herself.
Only, the good days didn’t last long. Her younger half-brother wanted to buy a house and had no money. What to do?
The Wen Family set their sights on Wen Yun. A girl who hadn’t been out of school long—where would she get money to buy a house? So the Wen Family tried to persuade Wen Yun to get married, to a man surnad Gao—the very one they’d run into yesterday.
This Gao fellow had a bit of ability in Jing City and had earned a modest fortune.
"According to what you found, as long as he’s paid enough, Wen Yun’s dad will sell her off?"
After reading the information, ng Yanzhi couldn’t help feeling a vague sorrow for Wen Yun.
This was her biological father, not a stepfather. How could he completely ignore his daughter’s wishes and just marry her off to that kind of scum?
"Yes." The assistant nodded. From the information he’d found, Wen Yun’s father did indeed intend to marry her off to whoever offered the highest bride price.
The assistant didn’t know if it was his imagination, but he felt as though a chill was emanating from all over ng Yanzhi.
"Mr. ng." The assistant glanced at ng Yanzhi cautiously.
ng Yanzhi closed the file and said, "That Gao guy—teach him a lesson. And prepare so gifts."
"Yes." The assistant wanted to ask what kind of gifts, but on second thought, felt there was no need. Anyway, the more expensive the gifts, the better.
As soon as ng Yanzhi walked upstairs, he saw that Wen Yun had woken up.
Her hair was a complete ss from sleep; she was sitting on the bed, which made her palm-sized little face look even smaller. She was looking around, as if trying to figure out where this place was.
"You?"
When Wen Yun saw ng Yanzhi, her pupils instantly dilated. She quickly lowered her head and saw that her clothes were perfectly intact. She clutched the blanket tightly, afraid of exposing anything she shouldn’t. Her head felt woozy; she simply couldn’t figure out what had happened.
"Is this your place?" Wen Yun pressed a hand to her throbbing, aching temple. This didn’t look like a hotel.
"Yeah." ng Yanzhi nodded.
He strode toward her, making Wen Yun look at him with her guard fully up.
ng Yanzhi stopped, looking at her with a faint, unreadable smile. "You should be glad this is my place."
"What, still upset you didn’t go ho with that man last night?" ng Yanzhi prodded.
Wen Yun shook her head again and again. "I would never go ho with that man."
"That’s for the best."
Hands in his pockets, ng Yanzhi looked down at her and said, "I heard your dad’s forcing you to go on blind dates and asking for a two-million bride price?"
"Wh‑who told you that?" Shock flashed through Wen Yun’s eyes. She quickly lowered her head, a flicker of embarrassnt passing through her gaze. Having sothing like her own biological father trading his daughter for a bride price dragged out into the open... there probably weren’t many people as heartless as her dad.
That man from yesterday...
Wen Yun shut her eyes, and all she saw was that man forcing drink after drink on her. What blind date—he’d clearly just wanted to take advantage of her. She couldn’t refuse and could only keep downing glass after glass.
Later.
Fortunately, he had shown up.
He’d clearly been the big bad guy who had taken advantage of her before, yet for so reason Wen Yun still trusted him.
That incident back then had been just an accident; he’d actually been a victim too. If her so‑called younger brother hadn’t set her up with that blind date and drugged her, how would she have... how would she have...
Wen Yun squeezed her eyes shut and drew a deep breath, not daring to think further. She was afraid that if she did, her already tattered heart would be torn open even more.
"Not talking ans I’m right." Looking at how pitiful she seed, ng Yanzhi said, "I can help you."
"Huh..."
Wen Yun stared blankly at ng Yanzhi. She was being forced into blind dates, forced into marriage—how could ng Yanzhi help her?
"Take a shower and co down after you’ve changed into sothing clean and fresh."
Seeing her hair all over the place, ng Yanzhi practically wanted to toss her straight into a bathtub. He grabbed a bag from the side and threw it directly into Wen Yun’s arms.
"What is it?"
Hugging the bag, Wen Yun opened it and saw a complete set of clean clothes, from underwear to outerwear.
