"Chenchen, why do I feel like you’ve lost weight?" Tang Yue noticed that Chenchen’s round face seed to have beco a bit sharper.

"Mom, I’ve grown taller."

Chenchen spooned rice into her mouth one after another; the past few days she felt like her hands and feet were not her own, but thinking of her brother saying: He’ll protect Mom so she can rest, protecting Mom is his job.

Chenchen was not convinced. Even though she was a girl, she could still protect Mom just the sa.

So during training, Chenchen put all her strength into it, wanting to be just like Zaozao.

The consequence was that Chenchen was sore all over, but her brother Zaozao didn’t say he was in pain at all, so naturally, Chenchen bore it with grievance.

"You’ve gotten taller, but also slimr." Tang Yue ladled a bowl of stewed chicken soup into Chenchen’s bowl, watching her eat heartily, and said with concern: "Chenchen, what have you been doing at the company?"

Chenchen rolled her eyes, focused on eating, acting as if she hadn’t heard.

"Zaozao, you tell ." Tang Yue shifted her gaze to Zaozao, who was silently eating.

"Playing."

Zaozao uttered one word, then buried his head back into his al.

"Playing what?" Tang Yue continued to probe.

Zaozao was unwilling to say another word.

"Si Yu, you tell ." Tang Yue looked at ng Siyu, asking with bewildernt. It had only been a few days, yet both children had lost weight significantly?

And they would fall asleep right after bathing.

"It’s just playing." ng Siyu stuffed Tang Yue’s favorite chicken wing, saying: "Your favorite chicken wings; kids like to play. Maybe they went crazy at the company, which is why they’re eating more now."

"Really?" Tang Yue found it hard to believe.

"Of course it’s true, don’t you trust my words?" ng Siyu raised an eyebrow, his dark eyes looking at her, seeming displeased with Tang Yue’s questioning.

"Xiao Yue, could Si Yu possibly be lying to you?" Zhang Hualian noticed sothing was off, so she quickly changed the subject: "You’re too concerned, kids are just at the age where they’re growing, if they eat more and grow taller, they’ll slim down, won’t they?"

"Si Yu, don’t listen to Xiao Yue’s babbles. Xiao Yue is just worried that the kids have lost weight." Zhang Hualian explained to ng Siyu.

ng Siyu gratefully replied: "Mom, you know Xiao Yue’s temperant, she’s always worried about the kids."

"Exactly, exactly." Zhang Hualian signaled to Tang Yue with her eyes, thankful that the in-laws weren’t around.

"Mom, I was just asking." Tang Yue pouted, muttering to herself, she hadn’t said much at all.

Tang Yue glanced sidelong at ng Siyu, who smiled with a radiant grin, making her feel even more vexed, claiming to be the daughter’s parent, but clearly more like a parent to the son.

Chicken wings, I’m going to gnaw these chicken wings down to the bone.

Tang Yue loved chicken wings, enjoying the satisfaction of gnawing them clean bit by bit, which she was particularly fond of.

She hadn’t finished one yet when ng Siyu added another, along with so chicken feet, piling her bowl to the brim.

"Eat more." ng Siyu said with concern.

Tang Yue glared at him, too lazy to speak, wondering if it was just her intuition, but feeling that ng Siyu was hiding sothing from her, sothing related to the two kids.

"Mom, did Uncle arrive ho today?" Tang Yue asked.

Zhang Huafeng had returned after drinking, laden with bags as Zhang Hualian sent him off on the train.

"He did. Your grandmother even said there were too many things carried." Zhang Hualian recalled today’s conversation with Elder Mrs. Zhang, breaking into a smile: "Your grandmother is still in good health, she’s so thrilled to hear we’re going ho after the New Year."

"That’s good, with Grandma’s health okay, we can be at ease." Tang Yue thought of Elder Mrs. Zhang in a past life, then looked at Elder Mrs. Zhang now, she was doing much better, Zhang Qiang was now a Special Forces soldier, Zhang Min had married Gao Bin, and news was that Zhang Min was pregnant too, life’s getting better.

Elder Mrs. Zhang’s happy mood led her to frequent health check-ups, maybe she could live longer?

Night.

"Xiao Yue, you sleep first, I’ll go check on the kids. They asked to hear stories from the company." ng Siyu said.

Tang Yue didn’t say anything, nodded, changed into pajamas, and lay on the bed.

In bed, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep, still feeling sothing was off, it was her intuition.

Needing to go to the bathroom, Tang Yue got up and went, then turned around and stopped, wanting to check on the kids.

Just reaching the doorway, she heard Chenchen’s voice of pain.

"Ouch." Chenchen’s soft voice rang, full of grievance.

"It’s okay, Chenchen, tomorrow you shouldn’t be like your brother." ng Siyu felt for her, but without the massage, Chenchen’s legs would hurt more tomorrow.

"No."

Chenchen said through clenched teeth: "I’ll be like my brother, I’ll grow up to protect Mom."

"Mom’s protection is enough with ." Zaozao said proudly, he wasn’t afraid of pain, he would grow up to protect Mom.

"I won’t." Chenchen said unhappily: "Even though I’m a girl, I’m not worse than boys!"

Chenchen pouted, being strong since childhood.

"Dad, it hurts." Chenchen said with grievance, Dad’s hand rubbing her leg, really hurt.

"Be good, if I don’t rub, it will hurt more tomorrow."

ng Siyu gently coaxed, rubbed Chenchen’s legs, and then Zaozao’s.

Compared to Chenchen’s cries of pain during rubbing, Zaozao was silent.

On the nearby bed, Chenchen quietly watched her brother Zaozao, deeply admiring him, feeling the pain too unbearable, yet her brother was always silent, wanting to be as strong as him.

Outside the room, Tang Yue quietly withdrew, already saying the kids went overboard even playing at the company.

Lying on the bed, she listened to the two six-year-olds talk about protecting her, willing to endure hardship, feeling genuinely moved yet upset.

No wonder the two kids ate so much at night these past few days and wouldn’t let her sleep with them; fortunately, she was busy these days, thinking the kids were understanding, not clinging to her, only to find them asleep when she checked before bed.

However, after several incidents, she vaguely understood, Zaozao and Chenchen were truly their children, and as their aura would grow, so would their need to protect themselves, otherwise, the wealth left behind would be a curse.

Lost in thought, the bed suddenly dipped beside her, a familiar comforting presence washed over her, she knew it was ng Siyu.
