Alex waited for Aurora to respond, hoping for a miracle, but nothing happened. A foolish smile lingered on his lips.
Rather than stopping to talk to her, he kept on babbling.
"You did it, Rory. You succeeded in torturing ," he said with a wry smile. "But you know what? I don’t mind. The more you torture , the better. I just..."
His voice caught in his throat, unable to finish his thought.
He threw his cigarette butt onto the concrete and stepped on it, his eyes filling with sadness as he looked at Aurora’s na.
"God, please send Rory back to ..." His voice trembled.
He inhaled deeply before continuing, "I wish you would show up in my thoughts. Please co... If you don’t visit , I’m afraid I’ll forget your face, and I really don’t want that to happen."
The silence thickened like it was deafening; even the sound of the wind was gone, as if ti had stopped.
Alex took another cigarette, slipping it between his fingers. After lighting it, he let his gaze linger on her na as he took a long drag.
"Rory, I know you don’t like it when I smoke. After you left, I started smoking again. I hope you’ll return to when you know I’ve taken up this habit... I wish you would return and scold ."
Alex was crying internally, but he maintained a smile on the surface. His eyes remained fixed on Aurora’s na as he continued to speak.
"You know what? I got married again to the woman I chose. I know you would be angry if you found out, so I didn’t tell you. But now, I wish you would co back and scold for my choices."
"Please, Rory, can you co to see ? Visit in my dreams, even if it’s just once..." His trembling voice revealed the depth of his suffering.
...
As Alex poured his heart out at Aurora’s grave, a few ters away, under the large shady tree, Aurora covered her mouth, trying not to make any sound.
Her hand trembled at everything Alex said. The agony in her heart tornted her. It was the sa pain she felt when witnessing him kneel before her father in the hospital.
’Alex, why? Why do you continue to bla yourself? Why do you tornt yourself like this? Please, just stop, okay!?’
Standing there, hearing his words, only to make Aurora feel as if her heart is being torn apart.
She dragged her heavy feet back to the car, not wanting Alex to know she was there, and overheard everything he said.
When she returns to the car, Aurora feels her hands trembling. She cannot dismiss everything. Every sentence he expressed to her grave is now playing in her mind.
Aurora began to regret following him earlier. She blas her curiosity.
Earlier, she was so curious about what he was doing that she couldn’t help but follow him silently and hide under the shady tree not far from her grave.
The first sentence she hears is when Alex begins to plead with God to bring her back to him. It sends a shiver down her spine because she is indeed returning, in an unusual way: in soone else’s body.
"Alex, do you know how much God favors you? He sent back to you. I’m here! Right beside you, once again. But I’m not just your assistant; I have beco your wife."
Aurora chuckled softly as she recalled how cold Alex had been toward her.
"I hope you notice my presence beside you soon," she added.
Turning back to her grave, she saw Alex standing at a distance, with his back turned to her. As she observed him with his head hung low, she could sense his agony.
Countless questions raced through her mind, instantly giving her a headache.
"Alex, how can I help you? Should I let you know I’m here? That way, you won’t have to go through this alone..."
Aurora’s voice faded. Listening to her own words caused her eyes to well up with tears.
She lowers her gaze to her trembling hands in her lap.
Without her knowing, her eyes dampen, and tears begin to spill from the corners of her eyes.
Aurora was unsure how long she had been silently crying, staring at her fingers, now damp with tears. But, shortly after, the sound of the door opening startled her.
In a rush, she wiped the tears from her cheeks and pretended to look out the window, avoiding Alex’s gaze. She could sense Alex watching her, even though she didn’t look at him.
Aurora silently prayed that Alex would ignore her as he typically did. She didn’t want him to know she was crying over him.
However, after a while, Aurora noticed that the car was still parked there.
Once she adjusted her emotions and expression. She turned to look at Alex.
She was taken aback to see Alex leaning closer to her, his face just a few inches away from hers.
Her face grew warm as she could feel his warm breath on her face, and the strong scent of nicotine wafted over her.
Unsure of what to do, she froze as their eyes locked.
After a few more seconds, she snapped out of her sudden trance and quickly pulled her face away from him.
"A-Alex, what are you doing? Why aren’t you driving this car..." she stamred. Frustration bubbled up as her heart raced nervously under his intense gaze.
"Can you put on your seatbelt?" His cold voice rang close to her ear, making her face heat up even more.
Aurora felt embarrassed as she heard her thoughts, imagining Alex was about to kiss her. She quickly dismissed her thoughts and fastened her seatbelt.
When they heard the "click" sound, their car started moving and left Graystone Cetery.
Aurora hid her embarrassnt and averted her gaze at the sky.
She noticed that the sky had changed color; the twilight on the horizon had gone, and it had now turned completely dark.
